Perfect cabin experience, area and with full amenities

  • 5 of 5

We love cabins and were willing to go to a place with less amenities. This place had Wifi, a flat screen TV and a large collection of DVD's, great and accessible hosts, and was situated in the middle of the beautiful woods on the blue ridges of northwest Virginia. Lots to do around here. We did the rescue zoo at Luray which was 45 minutes away, Charlottesville 1.5 hours away, and Natural Bridge which was 1.5 hours away. All the necessary information and brochures were found in the cabin. Mt. Jackson, where the cabin was located, was a great little town to visit as well. Multiple sources of heat are available in the cabin, quiet sleep, comfy bed. Great value.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Little Red Cabin! A great place to get away from it all, but only 2 hours from DC. Comfy accommodations, plenty of firewood, highly recommended!

Pros: The pricing was excellent and affordable; no extra charge for pets. The area was breathtakingly beautiful, everywhere we drove was like a postcard view. We enjoyed our time on the deck and playing some of the board games that were available. The weather was perfect, we never needed any heat or cooling the entire time.

Cons: The owner's listings state that she accepts credit cards, but she told me on the phone that she only accepts checks or money orders. The cabin is not as private as advertised, you have a neighbor directly across the road and another visible through some trees. This cabin did NOT have wifi, the internet access was being siphoned from a neighbor, and most of the time did not work at all. The cleaning lady showed up AFTER we arrived on time, and said the owner was supposed to call us and tell us to come an hour late, but we never got any call. The TV's in the house are probably 20 years old and seriously need to be updated. There was no couch or sofa for our family to curl up on, there's only a rock-hard futon, which was extremely disappointing.

This isn't a bad cabin if you aren't looking for much. It just needs some major updating. If you're going to ski or otherwise spend most of your time away from the house, it's probably fine. If you're looking for a comfy, cozy cabin with lots of modern amenities (like a TV that doesn't look like it came from the 80's), this is definitely not it.
