Farmette on the Rock Bound Coast of Maine

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,085 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Located in the quintessential Maine fishing village of Winter Harbor, a few miles from the entrance of Acadia National Park/Schoodic Peninsula, a restored antique farmhouse with modern conveniences awaits your arrival. Though close to everything Winter Harbor has to offer -- including one of the oldest golf courses in the nation, with water views from every hole -- this retreat feels like your private getaway destination.

The loft master bedroom and generous first floor guest room together sleep five. The chef's kitchen is appointed with new appliances and a pass through bar/counter, which makes informal serving easy and fun. Additionally, the formal dining area seats six. The comfortable Asian inspired decor blends easily with farmhouse antiques, reflecting the mariner history of the coast of Maine. Outside, the small porch leads to a wrap-around lawn, accented with mature landscaping.

Schoodic Peninsula is the perfect location for your summer outdoor vacation. Kayak, hike or bicycle in nearby Acadia National Park/Schoodic Peninsula Section. Just across the bay from its busier Bar Harbor cousin, Winter Harbor affords a relaxed and quiet retreat from the cares of the world. Wildlife abounds, with frequent sightings of eagles, loons, Canada Geese, deer and more! Buy your lobsters fresh from the boat at the local dock, or take the ferry (in season) to Bar Harbor for a traditional lobstah roll and chowdah lunch. Downtown Winter Harbor boasts an old fashioned 5 and 10 (if they don't have it, you don't need it), a small grocery store, a post office, a community theatre, and a few small bakeries and restaurants.

The closest airport is Bar Harbor (BHB), and the second closest is Bangor International (BGR). More competitive prices can be secured by flying into Portland (PWM) or Manchester NH (MHT).

Bar Harbor is a 30 minute ferry ride or a 40 miles drive by car.

The Farmette was quaint, quiet and all we needed for our stay!

  • 5 of 5

We came for a quiet, relaxing time to enjoy the fall in Maine. Even though the property was a bit away from Acadia Nationsl Park and Bar Harbor, we enjoyed it even more. At the end of our days of lots of hiking, biking and eating lobster rolls, we were able to retreat to the Farmette and enjoy the solitude and quiet of Winter Harbour. Great stay!!!

Quaint and quiet cottage - a perfect jump off point for exploring Down East Maine!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed this cottage in the early Fall for our 20th wedding anniversary. It was very comfortable and has everything you need for a quiet weekend or a long stay. It is centrally located for exploring Schoodic Point, heading further north up the coast, hiking in-land parks and mountains, or driving/ferrying into Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We had a great time! Thanks Christine!

We had everything we needed. Christine had emailed us with very helpful tips before our trip. The beds were very comfortable, and the area can't be beat. You can walk right into Winter Harbor.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Clean, great location, quiet. Winter Harbor is a perfect walking town. Accessing Bar Harbor using the ferry is easy and fun. Many hiking trails, vantage points from which to view the ocean, and rocks to climb on, all within a short walking distance. Delicious goody basket greeted us with jam, bread, eggs. Well appointed home with everything we needed. Comfortable beds, slept 2 adults and our two teenage children easily.
