About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

The recently restored historic Washington Melson House, located at 206 Locust St. is a 2 bedroom vacation cottage that is a short walk from all museums, parks, restaurants, churches and shops in St. Michaels!

The house was built around 1840 by Washington Melson, a sailor, believed to be one of two individuals who voted for Abraham Lincoln in the presidential election of 1860. The house was originally built at only 16 feet wide but enlarged to the current width soon thereafter.

The first floor of the original portion of the Melson House includes a living room and a dining room. To the rear of the original house on the first floor is a kitchen area which opens up by French doors to an outdoor patio. Also connected to the kitchen is a large family room with a queen sleep sofa. There is a half bath off the family room.

The second floor of the original portion of the Melson house is a large bedroom having two twin beds. The second floor to the rear of the house (accessed by a different staircase than that in the original portion), contains the master bedroom having a queen size bed. There is a full bathroom off this bedroom.

Great location, roomy cottage

We had a great stay with our dogs. Location could not be better! Cottage is very nice and roomier than expected. We were very comfortable. Would happily stay there again.

Beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The house is historic and it is in a very convenient location to walk around St. Michaels. The downstairs area is large and well appointed. There is a small patio outside the side door which was nice for enjoying the outdoors. The small, bedroom is probably too low for adults but good for kids. The master bedroom dormers make headroom a bit of an issue but not a problem. We walked to dinner at restaurants nearby and despite the proximity to the main street, we did not hear much noise at all. Nice place and a very accommodating owner.

A piece of history in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful, beautifully restored cottage. Everything we needed for a great family holiday but with a real sense of the history this place holds. The location could not be better, we were steps away from the harbor and great views. Perfectly placed in the center of St Michaels, you can walk or cycle to everything - the stunning shops, restaurants and bars that make St Michaels such a perfect place to visit. Thank you for our stay, we very much hope to come back.

The W Melson Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The stretch between Christmas and Spring can seem so long, but not if you take advantage of spending time in the charming village of St. Michaels. And to make the most of your stay, please check out the W Melson Cottage. We have discovered this wonderful gem that is reminiscent of years gone by with lovely antiques, original architure and fixtures, while providing the modern conveniences of a full kitchen, TVs, washer/dryer. We take our two small dogs and stroll the streets of quaint shops and restaurants, all within a short walk, chat with the friendly merchants, enjoy the local faire, take in the park behind the cottage that sits on the harbour. And when evening comes, we relax in front of a roaring fire in the family room. The second floor bedrooms (one double bed and one with twin beds) are draped with homemade quilts, plenty of shelved storage, antique lighting--after a full day, it envelopes us in pure comfort.

The cottage has the perfect location: close to shops and restaurants, close to the park and water, patio for cookouts, walking distance to the grocery store, off street parking, no need for a car to get around.

This is our fourth year returning to the cottage and we will continue to do so. It's the type of getaway where we disconnect from technology, decompress, and reconnect with relaxation. Best find we've made!!
