Location, Location, Location! - W Melson House - Beautiful - In Town St Michaels

The recently restored historic Washington Melson House, located at 206 Locust St. is a 2 bedroom vacation cottage that is a short walk from all museums, parks, restaurants, churches and shops in St. Michaels! Rates vary by season, and whether stay is weeknight or weekend. Stays of a week or longer are discounted, as are "last minute" bookings.

The house was built around 1840 by Washington Melson, a sailor, believed to be one of two individuals in Talbot County who voted for Abraham Lincoln in the presidential election of 1860. The house was originally built at only 16 feet wide but enlarged to the current width soon thereafter.

The first floor of the original portion of the Melson House includes a living room and a dining room. To the rear of the original house on the first floor is a kitchen area which opens up by French doors to an outdoor patio. Also connected to the kitchen is a large family room with a queen sleep sofa. There is a half bath off the family room.

The second floor of the original portion of the Melson house is a bedroom having two twin beds and a half bath. The second floor to the rear of the house (accessed by a different staircase than that in the original portion), contains the master bedroom having a queen size bed. There is a full bathroom off this bedroom.

My family just stayed in this little historic cottage...It is a wonderful location and while I realize it is older this little cottage needs some love...beds were fine but the furniture is a bit tired and the shower as well as tub definitely needs repair as the shower rod is very rusty..the toilet also was very shaky and sounded like it needed to be tightened up. Just wanted to let you know so you could put a bit of attention to get it upgraded . Also the kitchen utensils such as small frying pan and other items needed to be replaced. With just a bit of attention this little cottage would be fabulous. Overall we loved St.Michaels and hope to be back!

Bed uncomfortable, shower and tub needs repair. Lamp in living room bulb is hanging. Some burnt out bulbs. Outdoor steps need to be replaced. Could use more lighting at night. I realize this a historic property BUT needs upkeep.

Sorry you felt bed was uncomfortable. Most people feel otherwise. Lamp issue has been repaired and burnt out chandelier bulb has been replaced. Steps are fine.

This was a cute historic house very close to all shops and restaurants. Location could not be better. It could use a thorough cleaning and the shower is pretty rustic. But overall a good place to stay.

40th Anniversary

We had a wonderful stay. This was our second time staying here and we loved it. Very quay, cozy and clean. Everything as advertised. Location is perfect as it is a very walkable town. This place is right in the middle. The owner was very friendly, open and communicative. And I had a big surprise when we returned. My neck pillow I had forgotten and left it 2 years ago was still there sitting in a closet. We hope to return next year.

Waters edge is just a few steps away to sit and watch boats come in and out. So cute and the most amazing artifacts decorating the place made it even more captivating. Location! Location! Location!

This was a quick getaway for my husband, me, and our 2-year-old grandson. The location of this property is perfect! We could walk over to the waterfront and watch the geese or walk into town for shopping and food. We lost power (a fluke) during our stay, and the owner was extremely responsive and easy to contact. We walked to dinner, and it was back on when we returned. Highly recommend!

Great Location interior House neglected

Very disappointed no fans in twin room main bathroom run down shower curtain ripped rod beyond tape around tubs towels smell. Need fresh pain and cleaning especially closets. Grill unusable rusty needs new umbrella. Dining room chairs broken. Living room very uncomfortable to accommodate a group. House has such potential needs face lift because location is great. Reviews were deceiving plus need exterminator ants everywhere.

The proximity (walking distance) to the beautiful St Michaels harbor and to almost everything in Town, the quiet street location, the architecture and the historic character of the house and area. The house is also adjacent to other houses I have restored.
