My family and I enjoyed staying at the Villa and would strongly encourage others to take advantage of this special home. The home was so inviting, we spent 3 of our 7 days in the pool enjoying the fishing, grilling and leisure this beautiful home offers.
Watch out for 100% mark-up on the electricity use!
While the property was pretty much as described there were some issues. The pool heater or the thermostat did not seem to work. The pool would only get up to ambient temperature slowly as the day went by and the sun warmed the surface. It was bought to the manager's attention but not really ever resolved. The main problem however was the charges for electricity usage. You will be charged 15 Cents a Watt as it mentions in their agreement. Now they first tried to say this was normal. But the local utility/power company is LCEC. The actual cost per Watt is around 7 to 8 Cents. You can call LCEC to confirm this. So this management company is effectively marking up the cost of electric by 100% ! They also do not provide any weekly credit towards electric which seems even more unfair. The home consumes at least $25 of electric per week even if sitting empty. So without the weekly credit you are paying towards property overheads. Then, in addition to that, expect to pay double the cost per Watt. When questioned, the manager said the extra cost is their "admin fee". Wow!!! She also got quite annoyed that I dared questioned the mark-up. Maybe its because I live locally and I am not a naive tourist that doesn't know anything. Personally, I think the electric charge was outrageous. They take your credit card details when you arrive and check the electric meter either weekly or when you depart. Other than that, the property was reasonable maintained and the elderly relatives that we booked this home for, enjoyed their stay.
First of all, I'm very happy your elderly relatives enjoyed their stay in Villa Africa. We are not very happy with your 2-star review because of our standard electricity charge. We take our guest experience very seriously and try to be very upfront with our fees. Our electricity charge of $0.14/kWh is clearly stated and informed before you make your reservation. I'm truly sorry if you missed this information. I'm looking at the latest bill from LCEC for $129.58 for 1151 kWh. That's actual cost of $0.1126/kwh. This fluctuates throughout the year. We charge our guests $0.14/kWh to cover this.
We tried to inform your relatives that the pool pump and heater runs on a timer. When the temperature goes down to the 50's during the night and the pool pump and heater are turned off, you will lose a lot of the heat in the pool. There was nothing wrong with the pool equipment and they did not want to increase the running time.
Your relatives took very good care of our house and would be welcome back anytime.
Spacious, breathtaking view, close to amenities!!
We just finished a wonderful vacation in Cape Coral staying at the beautiful Villa Africa!! This home is beyond what the pictures show!! You walk in and right from the front door you can see both the pool and the beautiful canal! The home is very spacious - all three bedrooms are huge! The master bedroom looks like something out of a magazine! We staying in this home for a week. The neighbour introduced himself the second day and was very helpful in giving us advice on where to fish, eat, how to catch fish and what bait to use, right in our own back yard! We were approximately a half hours drive from Pine Island, Sanibel Island and Captiva Island plus about 40 minutes or so to Ft. Meyers Beach!! All breathtaking and if you like too look for seashells these are the places to visit. We saw dolphins at Sanibel Island, ate at Berts and the Sandy Hook in Pine Island (both had amazing seafood!!) We were also in driving distance to two mini-golfs and the grocery stores were only five minutes away. This home had everything and more! We did leave a couple of fishing rods in the garage for the next guests to use. We found out that you don't need a fishing license to fish in the backyard! We were told there was an iguana in the neighbourhood... we waited and waited... and finally the day before we had to leave, he showed up on our dock!! I definately recommend Villa Africa!! It's close enough to everything... but far enough that if you want to come home late afternoon... have a bbq and enjoy the pool, you still have the peace and quiet all to yourself!!
Situated right at the canal in a very calm street in one of the most attractive yet fast growing areas of Cape Coral, Villa Africa offers everything you could wish for! Stay in the silence of this peaceful villa for lazy days by the pool. Or jump in the car, hit the new areas of Pine Island Road and you have immediate access to the best and newest shopping and restaurants in Cape Coral. Matlacha and Pine Island are easy accessible by car and so is beautiful Ft. Myers beach. There are several high class golf courses within 20 minutes of driving. A two hour drive south takes you into the deep, exciting areas of the Everglades. Add another hour and you are right in the middle of exotic Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. From here, you can easily keep on going to Ernest Hemingways home in the southern most part of the United States Key West. Should you choose to drive north, there are plenty to see. A two hour drive will take you to the cities of Tampa and S:t Petersburg, where you can enjoy fishing, shopping and cultural life. Do not miss the Salvador Dali Museum, one of the finest on the world. Add another two hours and you are right in the middle of Orlando where you must visit the Disney theme parks, Sea World, Universal Studios and many other places. On your way back to Cape Coral, make sure to stop at The Ringling Museum in Sarasota, a truly amazing experience. Here, you will learn the story of the worlds biggest circus and tour the beautiful estates of the rich and famous Mr Ringling.
