Beautiful location, neglected house

  • 2 of 5

We love Arch Cape and have considered buying a place there for some time now. Since this place has been on the market for more than double its immediate neighbors (on larger, more private lots), we thought we'd rent it for a week and check it out. The amount of deferred maintenance alone will cost the next owners a lot of cash. Then there is just the overall '90s decor and lack of anything one would call well-appointed (nice towels, a basic wine decanter, modern coffee maker, a clean BBQ with filled propane tanks, cushions for the deck furniture that actually had padding).

It is also located directly next to the public beach access with people walking 15 feet away from you as you sit on the deck which has no screening for privacy. It also only has a very heavy umbrella for the table and no other sailcloths or shading devices, so it becomes intolerably hot in the sun from around noon onward. The house itself gets very, very hot in the afternoons due to old windows. Several of the windows that do open have signs saying not to open. Many of the others are nearly rusted shut.

I'm thinking this would be much more enjoyable in the winter when there are fewer beach goers and more storm watching from the living room.

Owner's Response: Our house will be getting remodeled in the fall, however the pictures on the website don’t try to hide any of what the décor is or where the home is located. We do have a brand new coffee maker and purchase new hotel quality towels each season and as needed as well as keep the kitchen stocked with the essentials. I apprecitate your suggestion of a decanter, I have never had that request and will consider purchasing that. When contending with the coastal weather you have to have heavier outdoor equipment or it finds it’s way down the beach. We do have 2 propane tanks and try to ensure at least one is full at all times, it’s unfortunate that this was not done for your stay. We actually purchase a new gas BBQ each summer season as the salt air tends to rust them quickly. Our floor to ceiling window view of the ocean does mean you get sun in the summer but our blinds and AC do help keep it cool if they are used. I wish you the best in finding a home you feel meets your needs better.

This house has the best location. The proximity to the ocean is incredible. You can't beat it!

This house has a well stocked kitchen, a barbecue (that runs hots and is hard to light), plenty of outdoor furniture with very comfortable cushions, a hammock that is fun, but is getting worn. The beds are very comfortable. The master bedroom is terrific with ocean view and a Jacuzzi tub and private bathroom. There is another bedroom with twins beds and there is a sink in that room which is a great addition. The front bedroom is small with a full bed that would be hard to fit two adults. The children's bedroom has bunk beds and a trundle bed that pulls out. You can sleep three children in this room, but it would be difficult to have adults sleep in this room. The way I see it this house sleeps 5 adults and 3 children. There is no way this house sleeps 11, unless people sleep on the floor. There is a room off the kitchen with a pocket door, but there is a couch in that room and no bed. I can't understand why the owner doesn't put a pull out couch in that room. The couches in the living room are love seats and don't pull out into beds.

The kitchen lends itself to making great meals and there are plenty of dishes, glasses, pots and pans. The fire pit outside was amazing and we used it every night. The sunsets were second to none, just spectacular. The ocean was beautiful and during low tide you can walk around to the south and see hermit crabs and star fish. We were surfing, body boarding and walking on the beach every day. The beach is dog friendly and our dog had the time of his life.

We had an issue with the trash, when we arrived on Sunday the trash was over full and every night the wild animals ripped the trash and made a mess. The trash was not collected until Thursday, so all week we had no where to put our trash. The house was not cleaned well. We found several crackers under the couch cushions. There were cob webs in the corners of the

rooms. It was a great asset to have a washer dryer in the house and it did come in handy.

Our visit was in July and there were 15 hours of beautiful sunshine every day. The house only has a neighbor on the north side so the house is very quiet. We all slept well every night and were well rested for a day of fun in the sun.

I would recommend this house to families with kids and dogs. My only regret was a week was not enough time in this beautiful space. Book it!

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your feedback. We have added another garbage can, unfortunately the beach garbage company will not come for additional pick ups. We also replaced the locks on the garbage so no one else can fill our cans with their trash. I have contacted our cleaners and given them your feedback. Our listing does state each bed type in each room and I have updated it so that it is super clear the number that can sleep comfortably. Thanks again and I am glad you enjoyed your stay!

Beautiful location, fantastic house

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful house in a great location. The deck is about a two minute walk to the water line at high tide. Kitchen was fully stocked and had everything our group of 8 people needed to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. The travel sized toiletries provided were a nice touch. All in all, a great trip. We would definitely rent this house again!!

Perfect house for our famiky

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year here with the family and we love everything about it! Location and beach access can't be beat. Not all family members can go to beach however from deck they can see the beach and family. Kitchen is well stocked, Bbg works great for preparing meals. Grandkids can come and go easily on the beach path and the property is dog friendly! Meka was great to work with. All correspondence was handled over email which works best for me. Quick response every time I had questions.

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Nine of us, seven adults, a ten year old girl and a 15 mo.baby spent last week, July 21-28, 2012 in this beautiful home. We are still talking amongst ourselves about how the week could not have been better. We planned on driving up and down the coast during the week, but we loved the house and the beach access so much that we spent a lot more time there than we thought we would.

The kids did rent a boat in Manzanita and got to catch some crabs and dig up some clams for supper, but other than a few trips to the store, we just stayed and enjoyed the beach, the house, and each others company. The girls are great cooks and the kitchen had everything they needed to put fabulous meals on the table, so that's what I would recommend to future renters......bring some good cooks and you won't want to go anywhere else. :-)

The master bedroom was so quiet that when we closed the door we couldn't hear a thing, so we got our

sleep! The kids all loved their accommodations also, and the three bathrooms were perfect. We used the washer and dryer, and we were all thankful it was there for us.

This house was clean and it was so beautifully decorated that it made us feel good to just sit in the living room and enjoy the ambience of the space. I would highly recommend this house and would give it more stars if I could because our week was a real vacation, the kind I have always dreamed of having.
