Quaint Cottage, Amazing Views, Free - Motorboat, Kayak, and SUP

By the Seashore is fully-equipped, charming, and relaxing, and makes an ideal home away from home. Free use of a 16' Carolina Skiff motorboat, a 2-person ocean kayak, and a stand up paddle board; they are a wonderful way to explore the surrounding area. (Otherwise, motorboats, paddle boards & kayaks are expensive to rent separately if you can find them available for rent.) The boat is great for fishing and snorkeling, and many guests visit their 'own' new secluded nearby private island each day! Golf cart rentals are plentiful in Spanish Wells and can easily be rented starting at $225/wk. = $32/day.

'By the Seashore' was built in 1930 and was the first boarding house where visitors to the island of Spanish Wells could rent a room. (If only those walls could talk - I bet they would tell us a lot of interesting stories!) This home has recently been lovingly restored from the roof and charming gables & shutters right down to the beautiful original Abaco Pine hardwood floors throughout.

By the Seashore was the first building on this waterfront property in Spanish Wells. It is located on the highest point of the island, and offers outstanding water views -of the ocean, harbour, and bay -- from all rooms in this charming historic cottage. From the top deck one has spectacular sunset views and views of Harbour Island, Ridley's Head, Meeks Patch, Royal Island, Russell Island, and the harbour with all the boats passing by. The cottage is built to take advantage of the constant ocean breezes no matter from which direction they may be blowing. (Later, the original owner also added a guest cottage and a garage to this large water front property.)

In more recent years, a large dock with two large fish cleaning stations and live aquariums has been added to this property. Guests of By the Seashore have free use of a 16' Carolina Skiff motorboat located just below the cottage at the dock, and the paddleboard & ocean kayak which are located on the beach.

The beautiful garden at By the Seashore offers tropical plants in a rainbow of colors, and a variety of tropical fruit trees. By the Seashore is located in the middle of the safe, historic, family-friendly settlement of Spanish Wells Eleuthera Bahamas and is surrounded by quaint shops, eateries, home bakeries, and more. A straight path from By the Seashore to the north will take guests on a short stroll to an unspoiled and uncrowded light pinkish sandy beach.

The ground floor at By the Seashore offers a large living room, a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen, a king bedroom, a queen bedroom, a full bathroom, a laundry room, a covered front porch offering up beautiful sunrises over the ocean every morning, and a covered back porch. The covered porches are great places to relax at the end of the day and wave to passersby many of whom will stop to have a friendly chat. The back porch offers an area for outdoor dining and barbecue grilling.

The top floor at By the Seashore offers a large bedroom with two queen beds, an open loft bedroom with one queen size bed, a full bathroom, and a large sundeck with breathtaking views of fantastic sunsets over surrounding islands where guests can read a book, suntan, or just relax.

Since By the Seashore is located on the top of a gently sloping hill, there is a seldom a day without balmy breezes, which means the cottage is very comfortable most days throughout the year with guests enjoying open windows, paddle fans, and the fresh air. (There is also A/C offered for those guests that must indulge. A/C is generally not required in this location October - June inclusive. )

Spanish Wells Eleuthera Bahamas is known as the lobster capital of the Bahamas, and has a reputation of being very clean, safe, and pristine. The fishing, snorkeling, and beach combing in the area are second to none. We can recommend the best local fishing and snorkeling guides for your vacationing enjoyment.

If you're looking for a quaint house with island charm and killer views then you've found the right spot! Ahhh, island life, getting around by golf cart, friendly people and pristine beaches! And the hosts...sone of the most amiable and easy to reach people ever! My family of 4 had a great time and while there were a few little issues, all it took was a phone call to fix. Lorraine, Kalina and Brent were easily reachable, even on Christmas and made our holiday trip feel more like staying with friends. If we are blessed enough to return to Spanish Wells, renting from them would be my first choice!

We had a wonderful week and cannot wait to come back. Property was exactly as described but how do you describe paradise? With so many details from the taxi and ferry to the golf cart rental Kalina made sure everything went smoothly for us. This was my first trip to Spanish Wells and I must say this was truly amazing. By the Seashore was very comfortable and clean. Golf carts where provided as well as bikes and anything else we could ask for. Onsite laundry was great, as well as wifi for those who need to check in with work which was very dependable. There was a group of 8 of us and we managed to fit in this property just fine. The island itself is fantastic. The people are very friendly, we took an excursion one day from Captain Scuba (recommended local fisherman) and has a blast exploring nearby sites and we also bought some locally caught seafood which was fantastic.

Beautiful old home, fun amenities

Beautiful old home on a hill, Loved walking to the little beach past the cemetery. We used the SUP board, the Kayak and the little outboard boat and enjoyed them all. The Beauregards were very hospitable, loved the golf carts we rented and the mangoes they brought. The home was cute and cozy. The flies got bad on one occasion but we were able to buy product to get rid of them. Also the room at the top of the stairs by the cute upper balcony door was too warm to sleep in but the attic room with 2 full beds was perfectly cool for the kids. We enjoyed having coffee on the front porch in the morning, watching the amazing stars from the balcony and cooking for the family in the kitchen. Also used the grille and the garden area and liked having the laundry room-extra porch to hang our swim gear. The island of Spanish wells was like home for a week and we would Highly recommend staying at By The Seashore, Thank you!

This was our 2nd trip and we stayed at the same house "By the Seashore". We picked this house because we've looked and looked at other places and always find that you win some you lose some. By the Seashore has it all! The house is huge and it came with a boat and golf cart. The boat allows us to go and explore other islands near by and find our own snorkeling spots. We also love it because it's 2 story and it sits on top of a hill and it has a huge balcony on both top and bottom. It's a great place to catch some cool tropical breeze even when it's warm out. Also the boat parked only a few feet away at a dock where you can use to clean your catch of the day. We will be back on our 3rd trip to the same house real soon and I can't wait!!! Great location with a rustic charm

My father and I stayed here for a fishing trip. We primarily chose this property because of the small boat that it came included with. We were on a fishing trip, and the boat opened so many more areas compared to a Kayak. Kalina was a wonderful help from day one... things can be a little..... relaxed in the Bahamas when it comes to being organized, but she was world class, which helped calm any worries. She even potentially saved our lives when we misjudged the amount of fuel left in the boat and were stranded. She called around and arranged for someone to come help us. The location is perfect! They also have a backup emergency water supply, which unfortunately we had to use multiple days during our trip. My only nitpick would be that the AC units are the type that hang out of the window, and as a result, I suspect that bugs and flies can get into the house easier. We had multiple insects and mosquitos regularly coming into the house, and though I'm aware a modern AC setup is expensive, I think it would be a wise investment. I also would add a door for the area between the kitchen and the outdoor area, as an extra level of protection. Anyway, overall, we had a wonderful time, and would definitely recommend it.

Touch of Paradise!

Kenny Chesney summed it up best...one by one we slide from reality with nowhere to go and nowhere to be... My Husband and I visited Spanish Wells for 11 days on our honeymoon and loved every moment. We would hop on the golf cart and explore this fantastic little island then head to the beach to soak up some sun. Most days, we were the only people on the beach and I never saw more than 6 or 8 at one time. We did bring snack food from home and picked up meats, veggies and toiletries from the Food Fair. We ate most breakfast and lunch at the villa and grilled out a few nights but typically went out for drinks and dinner. Most of the restaurants and stores accept credit/debit cards but the international fees will add up quickly so bring cash. The Shipyard had one of our favorite foods with the sticky conch and fish tacos and the Sandbar on Russell Island had amazing tuna poke wonton nachos. Take a look at both of their face book pages for weekend menu specials. The Sandbar also has live music on Sunday from 2-4 and the location is perfect! Wreckers on 15th Ave has happy hour from 4-6 and the food was decent but the staff was more than friendly and they are located at the yacht club. On Friday nights, Budda's snack shack on 12th Ave has karaoke around 9 and a green rum punch that was quite tasty! The kitchen is in a bus and they have a spirits store on site. Every evening we rode to the west end beach to see the most beautiful sunsets, you do not want to miss these! We look forward to the next time we can go and hopefully stay even longer. I highly recommend visiting this touch of paradise, you will not want to leave!

My new favorite vacation spot

We had a great vacation in Spanish Wells. The house was a good fit for our group of eight. Great location, clean, comfortable beds with everything we needed for the week. It was so nice to be able to leave the windows open and get breezes through the whole house. We also took advantage of the grill to cook all the fresh fish we caught. Running around on the bikes, golf carts and boat were such a nice change from our usual automobile filled lives! We're looking forward to coming back some day.

Love Spanish Wells

This was the first trip to the Bahamas for our family and it hopefully will not be our last. We really enjoyed our stay at By the Seashore and had an incredible time on the island. The house itself is a really cool historic structure. It is clean and well maintained and has all the basics that you'll need for your stay. The included golf cart is a huge plus as were the boat, kayak, and paddle board. We put them all to good use. We took the boat to Pierre Rock and a couple other small islands and had a great time snorkeling and exploring. We took the golf cart everywhere. The beach is incredible. Just as the other reviews have mentioned there are no crowds. And the water color and water temperature are breathtaking. We did hire a local captain for a day and went a little farther out for some reef snorkeling and spear fishing and exploring. Definitely a day we'll never forget. The whole stay on the island was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever been on. We would love to go back. The only suggestion for an improvement we could see for By the Seashore would be access to some beach chairs. A couple pointers for anyone making a trip to this island... If you plan to snorkel pack in your gear. We were able to get this done in our carry on's and it worked out great. Prices for groceries and gas are higher on the island. The tap water is a bit salty buy bottled water. This is not a resort island, it's not all inclusive, there are no large crowds or rowdy night life...and that (in our opinion) is one of the things that makes it so great.

Spanish Wells

We had the best vacation ever! By the Seashore home coudldn't be more perfect. I can't believe it came with the boat.! We got to take it out and explored other islands near by. The boat was a must have and renting it could be so expensive. It's definintely the biggest selling point. Also, we cant believe a place like The Spanish Wells existed. Beside all the beautiful sceneries, theres just something about the island town that had brought us back to our childhood again. The simpleness and the way all the locals treated us is sureal. We did not at all felt like tourists. Everyone we've met or just passing by treated us like family. Can't get that here in the states anymore. The best part also was there's no big name resort hotels and places that make you feel like you're in a tourist trap. We can get evrything we need here. Nothing more, and nothing less. I sure hope it stays exactly the way it is. We are planning to come back as soon as possible but not soon enought. I'm sure the rest of the world have more great places too, but the Spanish Wells are like home for us now. We will cherish every moment of it close to our hearts until we return. Spanish Wells Vacation

By The Seashore was one of the most relaxing vacation homes we have spent time in. Stunning views, night stars, comforts of home, centrally located. What a great vacation, wish it was longer! We cannot say enough about the wonderful people of Spanish Wells, they made our visit so special with kindness and courtesy. Where else in the world can you leave doors unlocked, your purse sitting on the beach, your bike parked on the roadside, and when you return everything is untouched? This is just part of what makes Spanish Wells so unique and beautiful. Did we mention the STUNNING beaches? Water color that will take your breath away? Spanish Wells has it over the top.

Bahamas Anniversary Trip

Spent two fantastic weeks in Spanish Wells Mar 20-April 4, 2015 celebrating our 30th. Can say enough about the Island and our accommodations at By the Sea Shore. The Beach House is in an excellent location providing quick easy access to the beach and the harbour as well as they various shops restaurants on the Island. The property is beautifully landscaped with many flowering shrubs and gardens. The interior is very well maintained and quite spacious with 4 bedrooms and 3 decks. there was only the two of us, but this rental would be excellent for larger groups. The sunset view off the upper deck is unbelievable. Getting around the Island is quite easy on foot, or using the bicycles and golf cart that comes with this rental, We used the boat included in the pkg, every day fishing, snorkeling and exploring the mangrove area. Awesome inshore/flats fishing: bones, cudas, snapper, grouper & tarpon. You may want to upgrade to one of the bigger boats Lorraine has to offer if you want to go to other Islands or the reef. If you are looking for a relaxing DYI vacation this is the place! Lorraine is an excellent host and was extremely helpful in assisting us with travel to & from Nassau. Site seers can also go to Eleuthera /Governors Harbour for a day trip. We are already planning a return trip with friends!

Awesome Family Spring Break!

We just wanted to thank our wonderful hosts for a great week at By the Seashore! This is the first time that we have been to Spanish Wells. We have stayed on many islands in The Bahamas before including nearby mainland Eleuthera. This was the best yet. We feel that we should have found Spanish Wells sooner. By the Seashore is a very charming colorful island cottage with lots of character. When we first arrived, we first saw all the many bright colors of bougainvillea in full bloom all around the garden as well as large papaya trees full of fruit! BEAUTIFUL! We followed Capt. Smiley into the cottage, and noticed that all doors and were unlocked and open. We found it refreshingly odd that he didn't need to use any keys to let us inside the cottage! How many places in the world do people still leave all doors and windows open? The cottage is very well equipped, there are amazing water views from just about every door and window, and the sea breezes just flow through. The front porch has nice ocean views, the back porch has views down to the dock and harbour, and the top deck offers amazing 360 degree views all around the island, harbour, ocean and bay! The boat that is offered free of charge with the rental of this cottage is a huge plus for our family. The least expensive boat rental on the islands is $100/day! My husband likes to fly fish. He wasn't disappointed and caught many bonefish on this vacation. He would take the boat out early and by mid-morning the kids and I were ready to join him. We visited beautiful deserted beaches, coves, islands, and reefs by boat. The snorkeling is fantastic in this area. When feeling energetic, we cycled around Spanish Wells and Russell Island with the bicycles provided, or would take the ocean kayak out for a paddle. We could have walked or cycled to stores and restaurants, but we decided to rent a golf cart to zip around (especially when were feeling lazy --- we are on vacation after all.) Lorraine had golf cart rentals available nearby at the best prices in town. The Spanish Wells locals are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the many restaurants of Spanish Wells and Papa Scoops for fresh homemade ice cream each evening. The grocery store is Spanishis the largest that we have seen in any of the out islands that we have visited in The Bahamas with pretty good prices for The Bahamas. We have already reserved two weeks at By the Seashore for our summer vacation, so, yes, we will be back!

This special historic property is really one-of-a-kind. It was built on the highest point of the island (which isn't very high,since Spanish Wells is a low lying island, but it is high enough to offer wonderful 360 degree views). This home was built in 1930 and was the first place that visitors to the island of Spanish Wells could stay. It is quaint, charming, and full of character.
