Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

On the Deschutes River in the heart of Bend, this cozy cottage on a quiet street will give you the vacation experience you have been dreaming of. The setting is so relaxing you may not make it to all the outdoor recreation Central Oregon is famous for.

The small home features luxury linens, free wi-fi, full, efficient, well appointed kitchen, washer, dryer, outdoor deck and fenced yards, front and back.

New ice skating rink in winter just a five to ten minute walk upstream.

This charming home is walking distance to Bend's downtown through the lovely Drake Park that hugs the eastern bank of the Deschutes River.

Our cottage is just under 900 square feet, so it is the definition of cozy. We have tried to keep it homey and traditional with quality touches. A lovely gas fire heats the main living areas of this cottage. The bedrooms and bathroom have their own quiet wall heaters.

The high thread count linens of pure cotton; down, and down alternative pillows outfit the bedrooms. Down alternative duvets will keep you warm on chilly nights.

The cottage is also walking distance to the Old Mill District with it's recognizable shops, restaurants, and multi-cinemas. Bend's old historic buildings charm while hosting the many seasonal festivals and 'First Friday (of the month) Art Walks'. Besides Drake park, the new child friendly Colombia park is just a five minute walk over the footbridge up-stream from the house. There is also Harmon park with it's huge grassy field and backstops, and the children's' play area with the 'teeny boat' , swings and play structure another 5 minute walk down stream and across the bridge.

Walk to many of the micro-breweries Bend is also so famous for. Being on the west side, there are many small restaurants featuring delicious local food and produce.

For those who want to stay in, besides the television, there are a variety of DVD's and videos to chose from to watch on the 42 inch screen. We also have a selection of books. An AM/FM radio and Ipod doc is also available.

The West side of Bend is also very close to Century Drive, the road to Mt. Bachelor, home to winter recreation. Skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and skating as well as snow tubing available through the winter and usually until the end of May! Ice skating is also available just a few minutes walk up river at the new ice skating rink (winter only). Between the cottage and Century Drive are ski shops for all your recreational needs including rentals of skis, snowboards and snowshoes.

We have attended to all the details we have found so nice in vacation rentals we have enjoyed.

Many of our guests have told us they do not wish to give a review as not to 'spoil their special spot' or find their favorite vacation time has been taken. Also note that the winter rates are much lower and it is always a lovely view of the river and very cozy and warm with the radiant gas stove.

Come visit and enjoy as much of beautiful Central Oregon as you can. It's a recreational feast!

About The Owner

We have lived in Bend since 1989.

After we bought the house in 1999 we spent time and spare change remodeling it to face the river and update the plumbing and electrical systems. Our family of 4 then moved in for several years so we could remodel our dream home. We loved this peaceful place and know you will too.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1999

Why The Owner chose Bend

We moved to Bend because we love to ski and love all the recreational activities Central Oregon offers. We bought this home because of it's location directly on the river, and it's old trees and natural beauty.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage has everything! In the heart of Bend, on the river, yet on a quiet street, with a sweet little yard, dock and outdoor fireplace. You can walk to the best Shopping, Dining, Breweries and parks. The kitchen is very well equipped. The linens on the beds are high thread count cotton. We offer down and down alternative pillows and quilts. There are books, games, videos and DVDs and an i-pod dock/radio if you want to stay indoors. It is just so relaxing to sit and watch the river go by.

Notes:
Please contact owner directly for booking information! Caution: Homeaway/VRBO does not give complete information! Many of our guests have told us they do not want to write a review to keep this spot to themselves. We understand their point of view. We want people to come and enjoy year 'round and not just for the summer as usually happens. So come and check out the winter here at the cottage too! The perfect location goes for accessibility to the mountains also.

Best Choice for our Family's Snow Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We chose this riverfront gem for our family trip, including my husband, daughter (6yo), and mother-in-law on our visit to Bend (from so-cal). The adults used the bedrooms and my daughter used the fold-out futon bed in the living room. Our favorite thing about the home was the nice mix of older home (early-mid 1900s?) and modern appliances. The snowy river was visible from the living room glass door and kitchen windows. Immediately upon arrival we cracked open our beers and headed out to the backyard to make a snowmen and igloo with the provided shovel. The TV had CD & DVD player and all kinds of access, we watched three of the movies that they provided for guests. The bathroom had a powerful heater and fan system which meant that we were always comfortably warm after showers. Stop by the house before you head to the grocery store, they keep the kitchen stocked with condiments. Surprisingly to us, we ended up making our own meals at home because we were so content at the house. A tip for snow travelers: If Mt. Bachelor is too busy...go to Hoodoo instead (arrive by 8am). For New Year's Eve, we went to The Pavillian ice skating rink which is less than a mile away. Friendly owners and easy communication. Accurately described home, layout makes perfect sense, location is fantastically central in Bend.

Amazing Location

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable home right on the river and perfectly situated between the Bend's Old Mill District and Downtown. Only advice to owners would be to trim some of the trees along the river to expand the view. All in all, amazing stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the fine review. We have kept the trees full for privacy and shade. Because your stay was during some cooler weather there were very few 'floaters' on the river. The popularity of floating the river can be overwhelming for the peace of the location and the trees give some privacy. Neighbors across the river facing west, are screened by the trees too and they also provide much needed shade during the hot days of summer at sunset. We do appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again.

New Year in Bend

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic location, owners, and house. The house is well-appointed and everything works well. The heater works great, which was nice since it never got above about 25 the whole time we stayed. Beds are comfy. What a great place!

Great location and lovely property. Look no further!

  • 5 of 5

Prime location close to all of the action, but the house is on a nice, quiet street. The owners are very helpful and welcoming, and they maintain a quality property. The house is clean, warm, and inviting. The floor plan is user-frendly. The kitchen is well stocked and with ample space to make meals. The driveway accommodates more than one vehicle.

Magical

  • 5 of 5

We were stunned by the beauty of this location. The house is also very nice, with a great floor plan and quality details throughout (bedding, towels, kitchen supplies, etc.).

You're also walking distance to the best bars and restaurants in town...and as other reviewers have said, when hanging out in the backyard, you feel as though you don't really need to go anywhere else! Thank you Lorlee and Thomas for an excellent experience.
