Our cottage is just under 900 square feet, so it is the definition of cozy. We have tried to keep it homey and traditional with quality touches. A lovely gas fire heats the main living areas of this cottage. The bedrooms and bathroom have their own quiet wall heaters.
The high thread count linens of pure cotton; down, and down alternative pillows outfit the bedrooms. Down alternative duvets will keep you warm on chilly nights.

For indoor entertainment, besides the local television stations, there are a variety of DVD's, videos and Netflix to chose from to watch on the 42 inch screen. We also have a selection of books and games (dominoes, checkers, Parcheesi, Scrabble, cards etc.
An AM/FM radio and Ipod doc is also available.
The West side of Bend is also very close to Century Drive, the road to Mt. Bachelor, home to winter recreation. Skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and skating as well as snow tubing available through the winter and usually until the end of May! Ice skating is also available just a few minutes walk up river at the new ice skating rink (winter only). Between the cottage and Century Drive are ski shops for all your recreational needs including rentals of skis, snowboards and snowshoes.
We have attended to all the details we have found so nice in vacation rentals we have enjoyed.
Many of our guests have told us they do not wish to give a review as not to 'spoil their special spot' or find their favorite vacation time has been taken. Also note that the winter rates are much lower and it is always a lovely view of the river and very cozy and warm with the radiant gas stove.
Come visit and enjoy as much of beautiful Central Oregon as you can. It's a recreational feast!

About Lorlee and Thomas Ackerman 541 389-2896
We have lived in Bend since 1989. After we bought the house in 1999 we spent time and spare change remodeling it to face the river and update the plumbing and electrical systems. Our family of 4 then moved in for several years so we could remodel our dream home. We loved this peaceful place and know you will too.
Lorlee and Thomas Ackerman 541 389-2896 purchased this Cottage in 1999
Why Lorlee and Thomas Ackerman 541 389-2896 chose River West
We moved to Bend because we love to ski and all the recreational activities Central Oregon offers. We bought this home because of it's location directly on the river, and it's old trees and natural beauty.

Fantastic location. Adorable cottage.
The cottage was great. We loved the location and walkability to many places. We would definitely stay here again!!
Thanks so much!
Cute house in a great location
The home was well-kept and extremely well-stocked with kitchenware, towels, linens, etc. lovely location right on the river. Warm inside with it being cold out. Would have been nice if there had been cable tv, and the “faux” entry off the bedroom was a bit odd, but otherwise, no complaints! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Bend. Thank you to the owners.
Thank you for the kind review!
We are sorry there was an expectation there was cable at the cottage. (The lack of cable was made clear in the listing. Our local provider was charging for services not directly ordered and was recently cancelled.)
Perhaps communication was not the best as the person booking was not the guests staying. (We did ask if there were "any questions or concerns" and if there was "anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable". We would have gladly hooked up cable ahead of time had we been asked.)
The cottage does have a VCR, DVD, player and in house library of movies (as well as having a local Blockbuster) Roku for Netflix and the 8 or 9 local over the air channels.
Again, we apologize for not having the entertainment expected.
The concern with the 'faux' old front door is a remodeling 'leftover' as the entrance was changed to the side of the cottage by the driveway entrance. For design purposes we wanted to take advantage of the wonderful view of the river from the living room (that used to be a bedroom). The funky unheated room off the north bedroom (that was the old living room) is the old enclosed front porch and the door is constantly locked.
Thank you for the feedback and we will take steps to disguise it as a legitimate entrance.
Apologies for any confusion.
We hope you will visit again.
Great Location, Lovely Property, Wonderful Stay
Couldn't have been better. The home's location was perfect. Beautiful view of the river and within easy walking distance to downtown.
Despite being so close to everything, it was very quiet other than during rush hour on the river, and those sounds were relaxing and fun.
We've stayed at many places in Bend and this was my favorite.
WOW, Thanks so much! We can ask no higher praise. We agree and love it so much too!
Best Choice for our Family's Snow Vacation!
We chose this riverfront gem for our family trip, including my husband, daughter (6yo), and mother-in-law on our visit to Bend (from so-cal). The adults used the bedrooms and my daughter used the fold-out futon bed in the living room. Our favorite thing about the home was the nice mix of older home (early-mid 1900s?) and modern appliances. The snowy river was visible from the living room glass door and kitchen windows. Immediately upon arrival we cracked open our beers and headed out to the backyard to make a snowmen and igloo with the provided shovel. The TV had CD & DVD player and all kinds of access, we watched three of the movies that they provided for guests. The bathroom had a powerful heater and fan system which meant that we were always comfortably warm after showers. Stop by the house before you head to the grocery store, they keep the kitchen stocked with condiments. Surprisingly to us, we ended up making our own meals at home because we were so content at the house. A tip for snow travelers: If Mt. Bachelor is too busy...go to Hoodoo instead (arrive by 8am). For New Year's Eve, we went to The Pavillian ice skating rink which is less than a mile away. Friendly owners and easy communication. Accurately described home, layout makes perfect sense, location is fantastically central in Bend.
Thank you so much! Wow! We love this special place too! It's great to share it with you especially when you appreciate it so roundly and soundly. Please come again!
Very comfortable home right on the river and perfectly situated between the Bend's Old Mill District and Downtown. Only advice to owners would be to trim some of the trees along the river to expand the view. All in all, amazing stay!
Thank you for the fine review.
We have kept the trees full for privacy and shade. Because your stay was during some cooler weather there were very few 'floaters' on the river. The popularity of floating the river can be overwhelming for the peace of the location and the trees give some privacy. Neighbors across the river facing west, are screened by the trees too and they also provide much needed shade during the hot days of summer at sunset.
We do appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again.
New Year in Bend
Fantastic location, owners, and house. The house is well-appointed and everything works well. The heater works great, which was nice since it never got above about 25 the whole time we stayed. Beds are comfy. What a great place!
LOCATION PERFECTION! In the very heart of Bend yet on a quiet street; a claim not all vacation rentals can make! Walking distance to Downtown as well as the Old Mill district including the Les Schwab Ampitheater. Easy walk to the new Ice skating rink and 'standing wave' in the river too! Many cute, child friendly parks for families just minutes by foot away! Bend is home to two fabulous grocery stores: Newport Market and Market of choice. Both walking distance (within 15 minutes) and with unbelievable selection. Assuming you are familiar with our towns reputation for recreational offerings, our cottage is within easy access of it all.
