Gualdo Cattaneo House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Italian cultural immersion! This listing is back on the market after many improvements! Relax in a charming and comfortable private house located in the historic center of a small Umbrian hill town, Pozzo. Enjoy your morning coffee on the balcony that overlooks the piazza, while you practice your Italian with the neighbors. Sip a glass of the famous Sagrantino wine while you enjoy the local specialties of the region - truffles, local meats and cheeses, and the wonderfully fresh vegetables. The Sagrantino road awaits you with its wealth of world-class wineries on the road that leads to medieval hill towns such as Montefalco, Spello, Assisi and Bevagna. The house has two bedrooms, one with a huge brand-new bathroom, including a large bathtub and a separate shower. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated with nostalgic chenille bedspreads and vintage furniture. Windows open onto a vista of the vineyard covered hills of Umbria - life doesn't get any better. The kitchen is brand new and fully equipped; there is a dining room, complete with fireplace, and a comfortably appointed living room with another full bathroom. The house is furnished throughout with vintage pieces that were originally used in Hollywood films. Getting around Umbria is easy! You can easily travel around to all the beautiful hill towns, wineries, restaurants, and in general be wowed by the beautiful, green softly rolling hills that surround the house. A multi-lingual representative is also available to help with any of your needs, including winery tours, travel arrangements, restaurant reservations etc. A car is definitely recommended.

About The Owner

Mike is in the cinema industry, and Diane is a retired ballerina. We have two Old English Sheepdogs and live in Burbank, California. We love to travel - especially Italy!

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Umbria

We always loved Italy - the culture, the language, the food, and finally decided "hey, why not buy a house there?" So, that's what we did.

What makes this house unique

We love the friendly atmosphere of Pozzo. When we visit, we feel like a part of the family. It's a small town, and everybody knows everybody, and there are some of the nicest people you will ever meet there!

What a fantastic area is Umbria. We came to Umbria from Tuscany. Umbria is as beautiful as Tuscany without the tourists. Pozzo is a great location from which to visit all of the very beautiful and interesting hillside towns.

In the eleven days we visited Montefalco, Assisi, Gualdo Cantaneo, Trevi ,Foligno, and Spoleto. All very , very good to visit. Assisi was our favourite closely followed by Spoleto. All worth a visit and an easy drive from Pozzo which is centrally located.

The house/apartment is very comfortable. Great views from the windows and the church bells create a good atmosphere from 7am til 10pm

Well equipped functional kitchen that we used on most days. Strong wifi and cable tv were plus points

Pozzo is a very friendly village. Orlanda next door became good friends with my wife, Julie, and we also befriended Guiseppe & Christina who run the local Alimentari ( mini supermarket) literally 20 m from the front door. All communication was conducted in Italian – what a lot of fun.

Raquel, who manages the property for Diane, was very responsive. She arranged a cooking class at the local winery/restaurant with Wendy a 20 year Italian resident originally from Australia. The cooking class was extraordinary and highly recommended. Raquel followed up on our every request. Her English is very good. She gave us accurate advice on where to buy specific products. Very handy in a country where retailing structures are a lot different to Australia.

We would definitely visit Pozzo again and stay in this comfortable house .We could not fault our visit to Pozzo.

Thanks for the wine you left for us and be assured the flowers were well watered.

Regards

Russell

Wonderfully charming and authentic Italian villa

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to get away from the tourist traps and congestion of the bigger cities and opted for a stay in a small village to get the true feel of Italian life. We were impressed when we saw the online views of this charming home and were delighted to see so much more beauty and charm than the photos could depict upon our arrival. This is a centuries old small farming town with the most incredibly friendly residents and we had very little difficulty in using our "travelers guide Italian" in communicating. The small grocery steps away run by Christina and Guiseppi had everything we could possibly want during our stay. The resident manager Raquel speaks fluent English and explained everything possible to make our visit one of the most relaxing vacations we had ever had. Raquel also took us on a guided tour to nearby villages, a local vineyard and one of the oldest olives mills in the Umbria area where we enjoyed such fabulous food and more than enough wine that we were grateful when she drove us to the hills of the beautiful Assisi where we were able to walk off some of the guilt ridden calories from our over indulgence. The church bells so close nearby were at first disarming but quickly added to the authencity and character of the entire trip. The owners obviously love the heavenly bed collections that are offered at some of the higher end hotels as the bedding and our sleep equaled anything we have ever paid premium to enjoy on other vacations. Without hesitation we would return for a hopefully much longer stay soon!

Lovely little village in Umbria

  • 4 of 5

Pozzo is a lovely little village in Umbria. This home was perfect for us. Right next to the Piazza we had easy access to parking and the mercado.

Raquel made arrangements for us to have 3 wonderful wine and Olive garden tours. We made easy trips to Assisi and Spoleto for memorable sight seeing and eating great food. The house is very nice and comfortable. Our group of 4 enjoyed visiting in the living room with picturesque views. The kitchen and dinning room was very usable and nice for entertaining. We enjoyed several days and found the house to be most inviting and livable. The owners of the mercado were very helpful and friendly.

Home away from home

Casa di Fabio is like a second home to me. This was our second stay here in Pozzo, the first was 2 years ago. We fell in love with the house, Pozzo, and the people. Pozzo is located in Umbria which rivals the gorgeous scenery of Tuscany. It is a hidden gem. Pozzo is a great location and offers accessibility to many of the great Italian cities. Catch the train in nearby Foligno for day trips or rent a car and experience the wonder of the Italian countryside. Even getting lost is fun! Just make sure you have a trusty GPS. Experience the real Italy in Pozzo. Open up the shutters and windows and listen to pots clattering during lunch and dinner times, and don't forget to breath in the heavenly scent emanating from the neighbors kitchens. Listen to the sounds of neighbors gathered in the main square below, playing cards and talking. Better yet, go introduce yourself to some. You will be surprised at their friendliness! The house has everything you will need. Pots, pans, blankets, etc. Everything is beautifully redone and has the Italian charm you can only find in Italy. I wish I could visit more often, but I can rest easy because I know I will visit again!

Bella Pozzo

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed at this Pozzo apartment for the second time in two years. The apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms a large kitchen, dining room, living room and balcony. We couldn’t have asked for a better home to spend our time in this beautiful Umbrian countryside. The living room overlooks the town’s piazza and the view outside the bedroom is of the Umbrian countryside. You do not want to get out of bed as the view is captivating. The owners are English speaking and very easy to correspond with. The kitchen is fully stocked to cook those wonderful Italian dinners. The bathrooms are large and more like American bathrooms than the smaller Italian hotel bathrooms. If you are looking for a truly Italian experience we highly recommend staying at this home. The locals will welcome you with Italian hospitality.

A Return to Pozzo: As Memorable as the First Time

  • 5 of 5

Spring 2015…this was my second time staying here. I was here in Spring 2011 and found Pozzo very quaint. It was centrally located to the towns that I wanted to visit. On the first trip, visited Bevagne, Deruta, and Assisi. This time visited Todi, Montefalco, Foligno, and Bevagne again. I was impressed with the newly upgraded house. Everything was fine the first time, but 4 years later, the owners put in the finishing touches that really made the stay all that more pleasant. Even the town's streets now have smooth stones paving the streets where dirt once was. The double bedrooms and double bathrooms were spacious. Huge kitchen with a great eating area. You cannot help but feel comfortable and at home. One last thought, the food in Italy was spectacular! I had forgotten why I loved not just the big cities of Italy, but the countryside with all its authentic tastes and sights. Highly recommend this place! I will definitely return here (again).

Notes:
This is an opportunity to truly experience living in Italy. Pozzo is not on any "tourist" maps, and therefore has a wonderful small-town feel. Even if you don't speak Italian, gestures will always make the point. Be sure to visit the local alimentare store (just 30 meters from the house), where local meats, cheeses, produce and other household items can be purchased, and even cooking tips are offered by the owner and his wife.
