About the property

2 Bedroom/1 Bath With 4 Decks On The South Shore Of Roatan

This casita backs unto the south shore of Roatan with 2 ocean side decks, a palapa and pool. You have only to walk 6 steps to be in the ocean at one of the most beautiful reefs in the world. There is a kitchenette, living area with TV and wifi, outside living and air conditioning.

Only a one minute swim to two premier dive sites. The owners are on site. One owner is a certified Master Scuba Diver and familiar with the area. We are only 15 minutes from several dive shops and restaurants. Or, we can arrange for tanks and weights and you can dive off the dock.

About Karen Bogart

We owned a small business in Austin, Texas and have been married since 1985. I am an Air Force brat so spent many years traveling and enjoying the various cultures around the world. We both began diving 10 years ago and since then gravitated to the Caribbean. Now we spend our retirement here on Roatan.

Our goal is to retire to this house in 2015.

Karen Bogart purchased this house in 2013

Why Karen Bogart chose First Bight

This house is our dream retirement home because of the reef and location. We wanted ocean front property with a beautiful view, easy access to snorkeling and diving in a country where we could retire easily. Roatan is perfect for us. US dollars are accepted and many people speak English. Most importantly, everyone, ex pats and locals, are very friendly. This house is in a small neighborhood that gives a sense of community without having neighbors right on top of you.

What makes this house unique

This is a quiet property with year round breezes, near town (15 minutes to the grocery store) and close to our favorite restaurant (Cal's). You can snorkel off the back deck or drive 10 minutes to a dive shop.

Nothing is better than sitting on one of the decks, watching the ocean, enjoying a snack, drink, or simply being.

Wonderful place on a wonderful island!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in December 2013 and we had a great visit. The house has great views and is comfortable for 2 or 4 people (we just had the 2 of us). We would walk up the street to a dock and then snorkel around the point and back to our dock. It was great snorkeling - a dive shop near by even took a dive trip here once while we were here, so it is that good. It was a little tricky getting back in to the shore behind the house because it is coral and not sand, so make sure you have shoes on (booties under fins or water shoes). The house is very quiet and secluded - a great get away.

We filled the hummingbird feeders and got lots of humming birds during the day, then left them out over night and fruit bats came and finished all the fluid! So if you don't like bats then bring them in before dark! We thought it was pretty cool though.

We sometimes took a little siesta in the afternoon because it got pretty hot, we loved having the A/C unit in the bedroom.

Be sure to use filtered water (don't forget to use filtered water for coffee), get lots of bug spray, buy ice. Note the fees that you have to pay on top of the rental price (we had a price of $805 for the week but added up to $1,180 including internet, fees, taxes). Also, don't bother sending any postcards from here - I sent A BUNCH and none of them were received. So mail them after you get back to the US.

I forget the house manager's name (Rhonda maybe?), she was great! She met us at the airport and waited while we got our truck, took us to the grocery and made sure we would be well supplied, pointed out attractions, made food recommendations, and was she was available the entire week if we had any questions.

Also, when we booked last year there were a bunch of good reviews for the house but then it sold and the new owners weren't able to keep the same reviews. We were there under the new owners (same house manager) and it was great! So if you like lots of good reviews, this house had them which is why we booked. I meant to do this review a long time ago - better late than never!

Don't miss your chance to stay in this piece of paradise. The casita was built in 2015 and is still sparkling new. This is a perfect get away for couples and divers. A relaxing atmosphere with constant breezes and sunsets worth savoring. The food at local restaurants is exceptional or buy fresh fish and grill by the pool. Roatan is still a secluded getaway.
