Great Location for a Family Thanksgiving Gathering

  • 5 of 5

We were a large extended family of 14 adults and 4 teen aged children so we needed a plenty of space and plenty to do, and this place delivered. This was our annual Thanksgiving family gathering, a decades long tradition, and we always find a Vermont location.

The main house has a large, open main floor with kitchen, pantry, and a dining area that oversees the large sunken living room. Soaring windows face east for all day sun and many of us were up early to see the sunrises. We enjoy cooking and eating, so we were pleased with the kitchen equipment, pots, pans and serving utensils. The pantry off a nook in the kitchen was great for storage of staples.

The main house has bedrooms and a bath on the lower level and bedrooms and two baths on the upper level. The east face on the front is a open library - sitting area that oversees the lining area.

Our teens enjoyed the separate carriage house with spiral staircase to second floor sleeping quarters. The down stairs game room with pool table, Ping-Pong, and foosball saw lots of activity.

Large screen TVs are in the living room and the carriage house. We had good reception on both.

The grounds are spacious and we took several hikes along the marked trails. The kids shot some baskets and played Frisbee on the sloping lawn.

A big favorite for all was the fire pit next to the pool. We had evening fires every night under starry skies.

This property is a bit remote; a 1/4 mile dirt drive off a well maintained dirt road off VT rte. 30 south of Newfane, VT. Brattleboro is the closest town and Stratton and Bromley ski areas are within 30 - 45 minutes.

A couple of the small kitchen appliances need attention, but all else was in working order.

This is a great place for a family get-away, but be prepared to travel a bit if you want an array of off property activities.

Beautiful Country Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family loved staying at this expansive property in Newfane. While we went for hikes at nearby sites (like Mt. Snow), it was great to also have a hiking trail on the property. Throw in a pool, hot tub, tennis court, fire pit, and game house with billiard and ping-pong tables, and there are activities for everyone. The handyman, Bill, is very helpful and a great guy to boot.

A few words to let you know what to expect: (i) because of the remote location, the WiFi service is not the greatest (and I could not get cell phone service, though my wife did) and you have to travel on dirt roads for the last couple of miles; (ii) if you're going during swimming season, make sure before you arrive that the heater has been turned on in the pool (which is large and clean); (iii) not all of the bedrooms are air-conditioned, but there is a big fan that cools the house and it tends to cool off at night.

Most of all, if you want beautiful views and a feeling that you're far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is a great location.

meeting house

  • 5 of 5

WE had our division meetings here with 12 people. The meetings after the meetings were great. The game room provided a great atmosphere some played pool some ping pong and others just hung out a the bar. The back deck was nice for eating out doors and the pool is heated. The area between the house and game room was great for playing corn hole and cam jam. Don't forget to bring wood for the fire pit and you will want to save your presentations on your computers as the wifi is slow and there is little to no cell service.

Great golf trip

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a property with great outdoor space to host our group of 16 for our annual golf excursion. Dmitry's property was exactly what we were looking for to unwind after golf. The property was beautifully landscaped, had amazing mountain views, the pool was clean and refreshing, nice fire pit area and had plenty of things for us to do while on the property (i.e. hot tub, tennis court, basketball hoop, pool table and ping pong). Dmitry was an excellent host and very responsive. We really enjoyed our stay.

Why Dmitry Ulyanov chose Newfane

I was looking for a perfect vacation property for over two years and when I saw this place I immediately fell in love with it. I had to have a place that was not too far away from Connecticut and southern Vermont was ideal. It had to be completely private and 100 acres give you that. It is totally private but at the same time close enough to Ski mountains, lakes, restaurants and stores. I wanted to use the place during winter and summer vacations and I do that and still cannot decide what season I like best. Honestly, I like my Vermont vacation place better than my permanent home in Connecticut.
