Why Marsha Carlton chose North

Mathews / Gloucester Courthouse area is filled with miles of pristine water coastline and friendly owner-run businesses.

Yet you are less than an hour to major airports, world-class museums, golf and theme parks. The abundance of locally available seafood, wine & produce is our favorite part of this area!

What makes this farmhouse unique

The North River is the gold coast of the area, lined with historic farms and equestrian properties. Whether you want to fish, sail, kayak, bike, paddleboard or stretch out in a hammock, this is a perfect location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed ourselves at your house, one of the most comfortable beds we have ever

slept in. We got to watch the bald eagle hunt almost every morning.

It was so quiet and peaceful.

We were amazed at how little boat traffic was on the river, that is what makes your place unique.

Navigation on the river was not a problem, there are enough markers so you can stay in the channel. They do have an oyster reef that is marked about a mile down from the house, you

need to stay to the right heading down the river. Fishing was fantastic! We caught lots of big speckled trout down in Mobjack Bay heading toward the East River. The dock is one of

the best we have ever used and the boat ramp is very convenient.

It was also nice catching crabs while sitting on the dock watching the sunset. Nice crabs!

Beautiful, Fun and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This home is impeccably updated, and comfortable. Everything is top-of-the-line. There is not much that the owner has left off the list. The pool, dock and view are 2nd to none. This is one of our favorite destinations ever.

Fantastic property. Excellent property owner. Very thoughtful, and accommodating to all our needs

  • 5 of 5

We had a very rainy week with breaks of sun daily, because the owner is so thoughtful we still had a fantastic vacation. She had a beautiful pool, crab boxes, kayaks, board games, books, cards, folding picnic tables, well stocked pantry for cooking, list of local activities (movie theater, bowling, museums, nearby attractions). My family has gotten together a few times and this was the best most relaxing vacation ever. The only negative (we originally thought) was wifi limit. However, my family actually changed their mind about that because everyone truly unplugged. We had a truly interactive fun time being with each other. I could not say enough what a wonderful place this is for vacationing.

Perfect for a Lazy Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic place to be, even in the crazy heat and humidity of late July/early August. Our group of 10 (young adults to our 90 year old mother) sat by and in the pool; took advantage of the (sometimes) river breezes; and cooked crabs we caught off the dock in air conditioned comfort. The house is beautiful - 2 really lovely master suites, a guest house that was good for young adults; and a 4 twins and king bed in a 3 room with a bathroom suite. Gloucester Courthouse is a charming town and the hosts left plenty of information about the surrounding area. But really, sitting by the pool and looking at the river was enough entertainment. We would definitely return.

What a beautiful house in a fabulous setting!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing! It's so beautiful and the property is just amazing! We vacationed here with another family so there were 9 of us in total. There was plenty of space for us all, the house is fully equipped with everything you need - its like staying in a hotel! - and the setting is fantastic. The kids were either in the pool, playing ping-pong in the garage, or fishing/crabbing off the dock all day long. My son and I took the kayaks out one day and had so much fun watching all the different species of birds from the river. My husband even spotted a few dolphin passing by early one morning! If you're looking to get away from it all, enjoy the outdoors and stay in a place with a luxurious touch, this is the perfect place to stay!
