Welcoming, Cozy, Wonderful Retreat

  • 4 of 5

What a great get-away! Kim & Doug have thought of everything to make a stay at their cottage wonderful. The cottage was very warm & cozy even though it was late in October. The view was fantastic. It was great to just sit & relax in front of the 2 propane stoves. Eagles flew overhead. Loons & other ducks swam in the bay. Doug stopped by to make sure I had arrived safely and I had everything I needed. The sunsets were a joy to behold. Even though the cottage is so close and convenient to Ellsworth, you feel like you're really away from it all. Lots of reading, knitting, & much needed relaxation. Hoping to be able to return again next Fall.

Great Time!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week exploring the park during the fall color season. The cottage was conveniently located for easy daily access, and offered a quiet relaxed setting for watching the water. The cottage was stocked with everything needed, and even included a “junk drawer”, just like home.

Great place!

A home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Will be back soon. What a lovely home away from home. Great views, turkey running around in the yard, eagle flying high in the air, blue heron eating on the shore, seal swimming, and loons chasing the minnows in the bay.

Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

Loved it! We spent hours just sitting and taking in all the amazing sights of the tides and sunsets on Union River Bay, the sounds of birds and the waves lapping on the rocks and the soothing aroma of warm pine and the ocean. It was quiet, restful and relaxing. Loved the new 4 seasons room with 3 walls of sliding windows. You could still sit inside and see and hear all the nature sounds while escaping the mosquitos after dusk!! We stayed 2 weeks and could have stayed many more. We had wonderful cool temperatures that were a welcome change from our home in Charlotte, NC. Loved putting on the pot belly gas stoves to take the chill off in the mornings.

The cottage had everything we needed and more. Very clean - nice modern appliances. Loved the binoculars and bird book. The well water supply had sufficient force for showers etc - we bought bottled water to drink. Stopped several times after our morning hikes in Acadia to pick up lobsters and clams from C-Rays to cook them at home. Hannafords and Shaws were minutes away. Most trailheads were about 1/2 hr away - both Schoodic and Mt Desert Island.

We've stayed on Union River Bay before, and this cottage and the open views from the shore cannot be beat!

Cozy place, great location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed there with my wife and 2 kids (10 and 7) for a week of exploring Acadia and the surrounding area in early July. The location is great - within 30 minutes of many key locations and 10 minutes from grocery stores yet very peaceful. Great views through the large windows of the cove/bay with gorgeous sunsets. The cottage has a great feel and the kids couldn't wait to return each day. We made dinner almost every night in the cottage. Would highly recommend.

About Kim Childs and Doug Michael

I was born in Maine to parents 'from away' as they say and grew up in mid-coast Maine. Although I sought adventure in far away places during my 20's, I chose to return to this amazing state because there's no place quite like Maine or like Mainers.

In past years, I've worked for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in mid-coast Maine and am an alumna of three of their programs.

For several years, I led cultural and educational tours primarily in the Middle East, but also in the United States, Canada and Europe. This work led to the founding of my an educational travel company, which I operated with my husband for several years.

In recent years, I've worked in Maine in the areas of public health and geriatric social work. Before recently joining the Institute for Humane Education in Surry, I worked at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor.

I happily live on Mount Desert Island with my husband, son, daughter and a rescued greyhound named Chester.

Kim Childs and Doug Michael purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Kim Childs and Doug Michael chose Trenton

Over the past several years, my husband and I have been looking for a very special property, and feel lucky to have finally found all we were searching for in Acadia Bayside Cottage. This cottage has everything we hoped for - a beautiful, oceanfront setting, vibrant sunsets to gaze at in the evenings and a location very close to Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. This cozy abode quickly felt like home to us and a place we could envision spending a lot of time - without having to drive far to feel like we were getting away from it all.

Acadia Bayside Cottage has a presence - a strong sense of place - which quickly draws you in and invites you to relax & live in the peaceful moments we hope you'll experience while enjoying our little slice of paradise!

What makes this cottage unique

Acadia Bayside Cottage is situated on beautiful Mill Cove, near the confluence of Union River Bay and Blue Hill Bay. Our cove is an excellent place to sea kayak, and is frequently visited by Seals, Harbor Porpoise, Bald Eagles, Blue Heron, Double-Crested Cormorant, King Fisher, and Loons. Four-footed friends have included the occasional White-tailed Deer and baby Fox!
