Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

There is an unlimited number of things to do from this lakeside house on the shores of Moosehead Lake. If fishing, boating, hiking, kayaking, or rafting fails to move you, lay in the hammock and read a book while the waves lap the shore.

The 'camp' comfortably sleeps nine and is made for a crowd. Two full bathrooms make staying with a larger group feasible. Intentionally equipped without a television, your kids can catch trout from the shore using worms, jump from the dock, go on a crayfish hunt, or try their hand at flat water kayaking. It's all here while mom and dad can comfortably catch some R & R and maintain supervision.

Owner is a former Maine Raft Guide and water enthusiast. Call Ryan today to book your trip and plan adventure for families, couples, or both. Take advantage of boat and kayak rental in the same cove. Call Ryan today and it's not too late (207) 462-3874.

Keywords: Lakeside retreat, deck facing lake, dinner catch brook trout from shore, sleeping loft, bunkhouse in 3/4 finished basement with outside, dock for boating, campfire ring, finished full bath on both levels.

About Ryan Mahan

My family has enjoyed use of this retreat since 1976. What started out as a rustic pole cabin has transformed into a house.

Moosehead Lake maintains our devotion, fascination, and willingness to explore after all these years. Our collection of memories continue to grow each season.

We hope you find this place as special as we do.

Ryan Mahan purchased this house in 1976

Why Ryan Mahan chose Moosehead Lake

This is true wilderness and true Maine. Moose, bear, and white tail deer seen every season. A home that encourages time together and true relaxation.

What makes this house unique

Lakeside, lakeside, lakeside and modern convenience. While we once pumped water from the lake to do our dishes, the house now has a washer, dryer, and electric refrigerator.

You won't find television here -- on purpose.

Perfect place. My husband and I went with our 5 kids ages 13 to 1 and all of us want to start planning our next stay. My 13 and 6 year old boys Loved the kayaks. My girls loved swimming and walking up the road to pick raspberries. We enjoyed hearing the Loons at night. Everything was just perfect . Excellent family place!

Beautiful property and decent accommodations but does not have bedrooms.

  • 4 of 5

The house has an open loft with 2 double beds (open) and a basement with several beds but no bedrooms. It does sleep 10, without privacy. There are 4 chairs for outdoor use and 8 chairs for dining. It is important to know what you are getting. It is a great place nevertheless. The views of Farm Island and Mt. Kineo are awesome!. The lake is breathtaking, clean, and huge! The house is no-nonsense and totally worth it. If you rent note that the neighbors are noisy with a large crew of friends. They'll pack them in with an RV and a constant radio playing. When they are their, there is no privacy. It is like camping except without noise control. We left a night early because of it. Fortunately, we had most of the week to ourselves!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback Michelle -- A quick phone call to me (I have the neighbor in my contacts) would have solved any noise issues. I have known the neighbor since I was a child. Ryan

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have picked a better place to stay for our first trip to Moosehead Lake. The pictures do not do the cottage justice. It's well equipped for cooking and all accommodations. We had a party of 5 adults and 3 young boys. The kids loved the downstairs with the ping pong table, books and toys. There was plenty for them to do inside and out (kayaks, hammock, feeding ducks, swimming) - they didn't seem to miss a TV or their video games all week. There were even gates on hand to help keep our smallest child out of trouble.

I'd highly recommend this cottage for a family getaway. The location is scenic and peaceful. It's tricky to find at night - so I'd recommend arriving in daylight.

Owner's Response: Wonderful -- we love the ways our own kids find ways to spend their time when technology is removed. Our entire family is more connected and less distracted when at camp. The Mahans

Wonderful! Pictures do not do the property justice!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation. The cabin was perfect! We had a great time on the lake. The weather cooperated and we spent lots of time on the water and had several evening fires in the fire pit! We had all the comforts of home and the kitchen was stocked with all tools/appliances needed to prepare great meals for my family. The yard was a perfect size for our 2 dogs and the upper deck was a perfect place for them and us to sit in the sun in the morning and for them to relax while meals were being prepared! It was a perfect spot for our vacation. The pictures truly do not do it justice! Beautiful! Thank you so much! We hope to go back next summer.

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean, well maintained, and stocked with necessities. Most importantly the property was as described in the listing thus enabling us to select a vacation property that met our needs. Adults and children all enjoyed our stay. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a vacation spot in backwoods Maine.
