Once you open the front door, and see the view of the ocean and palm trees that will confirm you made the right choice in picking our condo. It's beautiful- travertine tile throughout, slabs of Italian granite, to tropical upholstery; however, it's all over-shadowed by the mesmerizing ocean view. Take advantage of our low rates on Vacation Home by Owner. Nihi Kai Villas is situated across the road from the ocean and tide pools, in a lush setting of plantings that include bird of paradise plants to rainbow shower trees which combine to create the Island style that you will find warm and inviting.
Our condo has four lanais (patios), but there is one that's king, and that's the one off the living room. We have a tall metal table with an antique finish and four chairs. It's almost an extra room, because you will want to begin every morning with your coffee on the lanai and end the day, watching the sunset as you sip a glass of wine.
Our kitchen has new honey colored cabinets that are well stocked from dishes to cooking tools. There's a new stainless steel microwave and refrigerator. The granite on one of the counters is a work of art. It's so gorgeous, you might be tempted to take it home in your carry on. The dining room has a long wooden table with six chairs. A large flat screen TV is in the living room. The sofa converts into a queen size bed.
The stairs to the lower level are covered with hand-carved hardwood. This floor, as well as the floor above, is wall-to-wall imported travertine tile. The first bedroom has one queen bed and one twin bed. The bedroom comes complete with a flat screen TV. The connecting bathroom has a fresh honey colored cabinets, a mirror framed in kola wood, and a luxurious walk-in shower. Down the hall, is the safe for those items that need extra security and a washer and dryer to help you pack light. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a flat screen TV. The connecting bathroom, also, has a fresh, honey colored cabinets and mirror framed in kola wood. The bathroom has a shower/bath combination.
There are ceiling fans in every room and the trade winds, too, that will keep you comfortable.
You'll have fun in the ocean with swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, and snorkeling. Remember the ocean is just steps away. There are so many activities to do from helicopter tours, hiking, take a zip-line, catamaran cruises on the Napali Coast that you won't be able to do it all; so when you return, book with us and receive a 10% discount.
We have additional fun packed in the condo with boogie boards, 8 sets of snorkeling equipment & fins, and 4 good sets of golf clubs (one is a woman's set).

We used to go to Oahu and Maui, until our first visit to Kauai twenty years ago. Wow! God was showing off when He made Kauai. Butch is with the Colorado Rockies, so we work around his schedule to spend time here. Go Rockies! Even if you're a fan of another team, we'll still rent your our condo! Our biggest joy is spending time with our five kids and 10 grandchildren!
Butch and Mary Ann purchased this condo in 2005
Through baseball we have traveled coast- to-coast, Europe, and the Caribbean. We found Kauai to be the most beautiful, magical place. The fragrant, gentle air is almost soft, sounds of the ocean and birds float through the condo, it is paradise. Any stress you have will squish out with every step in your flip-flops. You won't be disappointed in booking condo #404.
A To-Do List on Kauai:
1.) Stand on the lanai and look for migrating humpback whales in the winter.
2.) Take a walk along the ocean and look for sea turtles, monk seals and the ever present chickens and roosters.
3.) Grab your beach chair and drink and walk to Brennecke's Beach, and less than 2 minutes you will be sinking your toes in the sand. (We're one of the closest condos to the beach.)
4.) Book a helicopter ride, a catamaran sunset cruise on the Na Pali Coast, or a fishing trip.
5.) Drive to Polihale Beach and stop at the Shrimp Station on the way home.
6.) Snorkel in front of the Beach House, next to Whaler's Cove, or drive to Tunnels on the other side and stop at the Tropical Taco on the way home.
7. Prepare dinner and dine on your lanai- quiet, romantic, and the price is right.
8. Dine out: Our favorites (see #7) after that: Keoki's, Duke's, Beach House, Eastside, and our neighbor Casa di Amaci.
9. Get in the water, boogie board, surf, swim, snorkel...
10. Grab your tennis racquet or paddle boards and head to the courts that are within steps of the condo.
11.) Drive out to the Kauai Coffee Co. and pick up some great coffee.
12.) Take one of the 3 sets of golf clubs provided and go hit a round. Or, take one of our boogie boards to the beach that's minutes away on foot. We also provide 8 sets of snorkeling equipment and fins in the closet by the washer and dryer! How fun is that?
Thank you Butch and Mary Ann for allowing us to stay at your loving condo. We saw Monk seals everyday swimming and playing at Poipu beach. One day there were not one, not two but three monk seals swimming and playing. We saw tons of Honu as well. One evening, there was a dozen Honu that came on the beach in the evening. Great places to eat near by and love the old Koloa town. We also had a blast at Aloha Friday in Hanapepe. We will definitely be coming again.

Our family absolutely loved our time at the Hughes condo in Nihi Kai! My wife and I went early and had a few days without the kids to celebrate our anniversary. The condo provides a very romantic setting in the heart of Poipu ... close proximity to great restaurants and some of the most incredible sunsets on any island. The ocean / sunset view from the lanai was one of our favorites.
For the second week, our teenage kids joined us and the condo worked great for our family as well. Lots of space, big rooms / bathrooms, and easy access (3 minute walk) to the best boogie boarding beach on the island, walking distance to fantastic and easy snorkeling, and even a surf break where they learned to surf. The accommodations were everything our family needed and more (the more being it is affordable ... we bought our food at Costco/grocery stores and saved a ton by being able to cook just like at home). All the supplies you need to boogie board, snorkel, beach hop, and even golf are there ... we did them all!
We can't wait to get back to Poipu and the Hughes condo in Nihi Kai!

I had a very thorough friend that researched this condo for our family and really, it was perfect for us. Good location, good layout, great view from main lanai (appreciated the bar stool height of outdoor chairs), ceilings fans and open windows provided adequate cooling, great appliances - all we needed and more. Good showers, great to have so many extras to use like boogie boards, buckets & spades, snorkel gear etc. There's a blender, a hairdryer - seems like they've thought of everything.
The complex overall is great location and amenity wise - we liked the pool and made use of the BBQ - I'm always suspicious of claims like "short walk to the beach," but you can rest assured it's true in this case. We mostly ate in & did a big Costco shop once we landed, but there's no shortage of decent places to shop & eat nearby - we discovered amazing fresh croissants at the coffee shop behind Long's Drugs on our last morning - maybe a good thing we didn't discover that spot earlier!
You won't regret a stay in this condo.....
Had a great week on Kauai, condo was very nice. Loved the view from the lanai.
Fantastic condo. Butch and Mary Ann great to work with. Kitchen really well equiped. W/D great. Outside equipment like beach chairs, snorkel, golf clubs etc. great and in good shape. Quiet. Pool was great. Hope to rent again.
My husband and I, along with my brother and his wife, were lucky enough to book and stay in this gorgeous condo on Kauai. The condo had comfortable furniture, great and comfy beds, flat screen t.v.'s, and one of the greatest lanais anywhere. The lanai overlooks the ocean, about 1/2 block away. It's the spot we kept returning to day after day. We would have our morning coffee, then later, cool drinks while we watched the ever changing ocean. We saw sea turtles poke their heads out of the water, spinning porpoises, jumping fish and dolphins. The view is simply mesmerizing. The condo grounds are also beautiful with tropical flowers, palm and other tropical trees. And the pool was fantastic with a nine foot deep end! We often would swim in the ocean in the morning, then jump into the pool in the afternoon. What a luxury! The condo also had a great supply of Beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, masks, snorkles, and fins, as well as coolers and golf clubs.
The condo is close to beaches (Poipu Beach which is a county park) and Shipwreck (no swimming here but it is a nice beach for sunning), shopping (Poipu Village, Koloa not too far away), and restaurants. One of our favorite restaurants was Brenneke's, across from Poipu Beach. The restaurant serves a variety of fish dishes and is open air. (We found it best to make reservations at almost all of the restaurants we sampled). We enjoyed all of the restaurants we tried and loved the Beach House as well as Tortilla Republic. The fresh fish is fantastic, no matter which preparation you choose. There is a wonderful fresh fruit and vegetable stand off of Poipu Rd and Pe'e Rd with all kinds of tropical fruits to sample and purchase.
My husband and brother were really impressed with the koa wood lighted stairway in the condo. (The bedrooms are downstairs, the living area upstairs)
This rare wood makes for an impressive stairway. The granite counter tops in the kitchen are a work of art. The new washer and dryer were greatly appreciated.
If there is any negative regarding our stay it is that we had no wifi. We attempted at different times, day and night, without success. But this negative was such a minor thing that we weren't certain we should even mention it. After all, we were on a vacation! If we really had a burning need to be connected, we went over to the Hyatt where we had no difficulty.
All things considered, we would readily book this property again.
Thank you, Butch and Mary Ann!
Nihi Kai has two tennis courts, a pickle ball court, a heated pool, and a covered BBQ area with two gas grills and picnic tables.
