About Maria Tabares

Maria Tabares and Janet Bailey lived in Indiana and purchased this home as a rental property in 2011. They have decorated it and furnished it as if they had lived there themselves. They have purchased high end appliances, mattresses and linens.

They are professionals who own other companies and know how important customer service is to everyone.

They have since moved to Grassy Key and live one mile from Key Lime Kottage. They know how important customer service is and they want your experience to be top notch! They both grew up in Indiana so Hoosier Hospitality is very important to them!

Maria Tabares purchased this house in 2011

Why Maria Tabares chose Marathon Area

This property caught our eye because there is alot of privacy in the back yard. You feel like you are engulfed in nature. You will be close to Marathon and alot of activities however when you are at the house you feel secluded and private.

What makes this house unique

The fact that this house is on such a private setting is what really appealed to us. On both sides no one can build a house because it is protected wetlands. Grassy Key is very laid back and quiet, yet we are an hour away from Key West where there is always something going on. Lots of shopping, great restaurants, bars and wonderful sunsets.

We are less than 5 minutes from Marathon where you have two fairly large grocery stores, restaurants and bars. Lots of marinas where you can rent boats and lots of places to charter fishing trips. The unique feel of the Florida Keys is like no other place in the US. You will really be in paradise when you stay here!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We can in no way convey to you how much we enjoyed our week at your home.

Your selections of quality products show your commitment to having a great experience.

The pool, spa, nice bed and general overall cleanliness show that you have made quite an investment and take great pride in it.

We were only too delighted to leave it as nice as we found it. Our leaving was very reluctant since it meant that we were leaving a great home and not to mention returning to the day to day work environment.

We were obviously the first to use the new grill. Very nice.

The pool is first class as well as the spa which we used every night.

Being from South Carolina and spending a considerable amount of time in the Charleston area, the no-see-um bugs are no surprise to us. The nice pool surround made that a no problem, nice investment..

Having traveled to the Virgin Islands the Iguanas are no surprise either, however Iggy has a personality all of his own.

We enjoyed the trip to Key West but as we told Norm that is a trip that once made will not be necessary again I guess our age is catching up with us in that respect.

Of course being in the aviation business we had to take in the EAA air museum at the Marathon airport and made new friends while there.

Mel and I both enjoyed the kayak trips as we took several in the tandem up and down the shore line experiencing many new views and wildlife.

We only ate out of the house on the final night there, all others were prepared at the house from local purchases. What a nice treat.

You have us hooked and would like to repeat next Memorial day week if you will have us back.

This time we will bring either our boat or watercraft down when we return.

Lastly, Norm was delightful to talk to each time that we spoke, he is quite informative, friendly and a great selection as a property manager. Please pass this along to Norm and Betsy.

Mel and I had not taken a true vacation in over 15 years and this one was one for the record books..

Thanks again. Please consider us returning.

Leisurely trip to Grassy Key

  • 5 of 5

Great stay again at Key Lime Kottage. Always love the private pool with the six top table outside and we also really enjoy the kayaks (3). We can walk to the dolphin research center and love the central location of the house in the keys. It's not too far at all from the grocery store or great restaurants but far enough to feel secluded and closer to nature. The three bedrooms are great and we appreciate all the available cookware/utensils and the grill.

Private and Pleasant

  • 5 of 5

The house is sturdy, the rooms are spacious, the appliances and plumbing work without a hitch. There are no end of places to curl up with a book or laptop, or enjoy an hour with one of the flatscreen TVs. The inside is nicely decorated and full of natural light. Outside, the pool and hot tub are well-maintained and lit for nighttime enjoyment, while the screened enclosure surrounding them provides a delightful selection of chaises and enormous potted plants, along with protection from the less convenient denizens of nature.

The small pier at the Gulf end of the property is no doubt convenient for those who want to use the kayaks, but we fell in love with it as a place to enjoy the breeze, watch the sunset, and listen to the slow-motion cavorting of iguanas in the mangrove thickets. The mangroves, we learn, are protected species in Florida and the lush swaths of them on either side are what give KLK its beautiful sense of isolation and peace. If you walk out past the greenery, though, you will find a good restaurant "next door" and the Dolphin Research Center just past that; and there is an excellent diner/market in the other direction.

More energetic guests might want to hop on one of the bicycles and explore. The Keys have miles and miles of deliciously flat bike paths to basically everywhere, and a culture that doesn't view you as an exotic game animal when using the roads. We will certainly do more of this on our next trip to Key Lime Kottage; this first time we were most content to spend days "at home", enjoying the peace and privacy of swimming and sunsets far, far away from the work and and winter of everyday life.

HAPPY COUPLE

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I hadn't taken a nice trip together in 36 years. We are both now over 60 and it was the perfect time to rest-relax-reconnect. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place. As soon as we walked into Key Lime Kottage, it just felt like home. It was clean and had everything we needed. What we loved most was the total privacy. The pool and spa are right outside your back door and enclosed so never bothered by any bugs. It also has a TV our there, so you don't miss the big game. Our favorite spot was the bench at the end of the dock. Many mornings and evenings were spent out there just sitting together and enjoying the beauty and quiet. Marathon had several things to offer just for a little adventure. There are so many excellent places to eat. Our personal favorite was a romantic meal at Island Fish Co. When we wanted a little excitement.....take a helicopter tour at Old City Helicopter. We did (it was fabulous). You are only one hour from Key West and it is a beautiful drive. We would STRONGLY recommend Key Lime Kottage to anyone just wanting a fabulous place to get away. I can see this being perfect for a family or a great place just to enjoy one another as a couple. We want to thank Maria for thinking of everything. We have decided this is a must come back!!!

Fantastic Place

  • 5 of 5

Everything about Key Lime Kottage was perfect for us - the location, the size, and the atmosphere. We had an age span of from 6 years old to 72 years old and it worked for every age. The pool area was a special place where everyone in the family good relax and enjoy each other's company. The pool towels provided were a special and considerate touch. The dock was a great place to watch the beautiful sunsets. There were numerous activities nearby and it was just as awesome to go nowhere and enjoy the pool. Very easy to deal with Maria before, during and after our stay. We would definitely stay at KLK again!
