Why Carole C. Grove chose Churchville
It would be hard to find a better location for a vacation rental. For historians, we are in the heart of colonial America and a comfortable drive to the Nation's Capital in Washington, DC. Another direction will take you to the beautiful Atlantic Beaches for a quick overnite stay or a long day's outing. Naturalists will enjoy pristine mountain streams known for exceptional trout fishing, or expansive National forests with mountain lakes. This property is well suited for people who wish to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of the Valley and mountains, as well as those who wish to visit the myriad of attractions nearby or within short driving distance. It is a perfect place for photographers, artists, musicians, birdwatchers, writers or those simply seeking rest and relaxation. The four distinctive seasons lend themselves uniquely to a vacation anytime of the year. This is a family friendly home with safe outside play areas for children. Our farm menagerie includes donkeys, sheep, cattle, and beautiful laying hens who lay colorful eggs - including green and blue! Our family pets include friendly dogs and cats and two retired ponies. Our guests can enjoy the bounty of our family garden while they are here as well as fresh eggs if they like.
What makes this Cottage unique
Two of the most st striking benefits of staying here are the magnificent morning vistas of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains. Often the morning mist outlines the layers of mountain tops that cause you to pause, and often get your camera! Equally as beautiful, are the spectacular starry skies that are displayed on clear, cool nights. With no light pollution from urban areas, the starry skies are a sight to behold!

WE had such a good time at Christmas in the cottage which had been decorated for the holidays! The cottage had a fabulous view and we couldn't have had a better vacation with our family. Our thanks to the hosts for making everything very comfortable for us! We all enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm and feasting our eyes on the beautiful scenery!
Beautiful country setting!Fully equipped cottage.
I miss it already..
A beautiful getaway
Our family of four (kids aged 9 and 13) loved our stay at the farm. The location is exceptionally beautiful, the views from the patio are spectacular and the quiet and peace are exactly what we needed. We stayed at the cottage, which offered the best of all worlds - ample space to eat meals and play games together, and enough room to head off quietly to read or nap. (we took a peek at the cabin and loved the open floor plan and could easily have pictured ourselves staying there as well.) Our kids loved the pool, the fruit and vegetable garden and the cats and dogs. We spent a few days just hanging around the property and took day trips to Charlottesville, Skyline Drive and Staunton. Honestly, we could have stayed longer.
Jim and Carole were attentive and generous hosts - replaced a burned out bulb right away when we needed it, and even helped us with car trouble mid-week. Highly recommended!
Great family trip
The Grove's where terrific host. The property was like staying in a private Beautiful Park. Great salt water swimming pool.. Close to attractions. Looking forward to staying here again this fall.
Beautiful location - wonderful house
We had such an amazing weekend ! The hosts were amazing !
The location is just beautiful and you have everything you need :)
A little bit of paradise
Jim and Carol were welcoming hosts to their well equipped cosy cottage. The family enjoyed the lovely pool, seeing the various animals and just the peace and tranquility of nature in this wonderful location. If we have the opportunity a return visit will be a must.
The Shenandoah National Park is a short drive away as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. In addition there are a number of vineyards nearby as well as stables for horseback riding. Wonderful restauarants, museums, farmers' markets, antique shops, and the American Shakespeare Company at the Black Friar Theatre are all within a short 20 minute drive. For day trips, Natural Bridge, Luray Caverns, Historic Charlottesville and Lexington are all less than an hour's drive. A fun place for the whole family is the Green Valley Book Fair, open 6 times a year for two weeks. A day on the farm offers trails through the woods for hiking, a large private in-ground pool for day or evening swimming, a fire-pit for chilly evenings and making 'smores,' and a variety of farm animals including sheep, mules, donkeys, cattle, and ten beautiful laying hens, some that lay colored eggs! Brilliant starry skies will amaze you at the end of the day!
