The house was wonderful and had plenty of space. The best part was how close it is to the creek. We spent an entire day fishing and swimming in the creek. It was very peaceful and relaxing and the hosts were amazing.

We rented this for a girls weekend. It was in a great central location since we were all spread out from St Louis to Oklahoma City and everywhere in between. Nicely decorated, well supplied. All rooms and beds comfortable. We would rent again.

We had a great trip at the farmhouse. The house was beautiful and very clean. Our son loved fishing at the creek every evening. Elk River floating and Bentonville museums were great! We hope to be back next year! Thanks Jana!

We had a great time at Little Sugar. The house had a ton of space. We only had to drive a few minutes to float the Elk, but the best part was just playing in the creek near the house. The kids loved it and it was crystal clear. Beautiful place to get away and have some family vacation time.

Good times!!!
The house has plenty of space and bedrooms, so you are not on top of each other. The river was a little tricky to get down to, but other than that we had a fun family vacation.

Thank you so very much for your review Carma and so glad you enjoyed your visit! That creek path has been covered in so much water this year it's been a challenge to keep it clear but glad you were able to enjoy the property despite the tree fall. Have a wonderful rest of your summer and thank you so much for your business!!
This place is great!!! My family and I have stayed here for six or seven years now and we love it. We have plenty of room for our large family dinners. The hosts provide tubes for floating the river and the house is well equipped with what you need. Jana is very nice and super helpful with whatever you need! The front porch is definitely my favorite place. We'll be back next year!

Great Country House
The photos do not do justic to this little piece of heaven. My kids learned how to skip rocks at the creek, they went exploring on the farm, and we had a huge bonfire one night. The house is big enough for two families with a large dinning table. Jana was extremely easy to work with and answered questions quickly. We plan on going back next year.

This property is conveniently located close to all the outfitters for the Big Elk. Just be aware, the weekends is not a good time to bring younger children to the Big Elk. However, the property being on the Little Sugar is perfect. It's private, not too deep but still has a good flow to it. Very peaceful and relaxing, plus Jana provides the tubes to float. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen has everything you need. It is country, so there are bugs and critters outside. We loved our stay!! Will come back again.

Lovely River Getaway!
We enjoyed our time on the Little Sugar so much! Having this lovely home base made it even more fantastic. The house was well furnished and a close walk to river access. We tubed the Little Sugar for two days without having to shuttle for more than 1/2 mile! It was great!
We did forget that water in this area of MO is quite sulfur-y, but the store is so close we did a run for drinking water and everything was good. In fact, it's really cool that we felt so "out in the middle of nowhere", but knew we could run to civilization for nearly anything we needed in about 5 minutes! I mention this not in any way as a negative to the house - we've frequented this area a lot and it is what it is. Just a note for others to pack the water if it's an issue!
The house was open and spread out, giving everyone a sense of their own space. They took care of the couple of items that came up very quickly, giving us an easy, happy weekend on the river! It really was fantastic and we are very thankful that they share this home!

Perfect setting and accommodations for our group.....plan to return next year!
We are a small group of men/close friends (in our early forties now) that have been doing an annual golf/canoe/casino/hijinks trip for many years now around the Elk River and surrounding Southern MO areas. We turned to the Little Sugar Farmhouse as an alternative to camping this year…..after our campsite was nearly wiped off the map with torrential flooding and tornadic activity the prior year (many pup tents were lost in that struggle).
The Farmhouse was perfect for our crew this year. Each man had access to a separate bed (which has been crucial for us past the age of ~23), the layout of the house was spacious with many seating options, the kitchen was well equipped and kitchen island served as a perfect make-shift bar in our frequent trips from the fire pit to refresh our drinks.
The fire pit was also a highlight of our stay. Both evenings and well into the early morning hours were spent around it. It was a perfect distance away from the house itself….close enough to the refreshments, but just far enough away from the house to escape the noise if you wanted to turn in a bit early. As others have said, we enjoyed the location of the house itself too. You feel like you are in the middle of the country while sitting around the fire pit hearing coyotes (I think) in the distance - but if you forgot your YETI, you could be at Wal-Mart in less than 10 minutes shopping for an Ozark Trail replacement. And the access to the river itself is just across the street and then a short walk….plenty of sand bar space there to set up a chair, take in the views and enjoy the water - or just put your chairs in the water like we did.
As some others have pointed out, there is a sulphur smell to the well water that feeds into the house - but it’s certainly not a show stopper. A minor inconvenience for this group that used to go literally days without showering in the early years of this annual trip.
Jana - we appreciated your hospitality - and look forward to returning next year!

We stayed at the the Little Sugar Farmhouse Memorial Weekend 2022. Jana & her husband were super welcoming & available to answer any questions we had. The Farmhouse is absolutely beautiful & is fully stocked with anything you could possibly need. The private creek access is very enjoyable. I highly recommend this place for anyone that is looking for a get away.

This property, which has been in the host's family for years, is well-loved and maintained. We had an issue with the water pressure gauge the first morning. Jana and her husband were very responsive and managed to get a repairman in to fix it, even though it was the weekend.
The four bedrooms and 3 bathrooms allow for privacy and there are two separate living room areas if you wanted to split up kids and adults.
Little Sugar Creek Farmhouse is a great location. Off the beaten path but yet just minutes away from food, drink, and entertainment. The Farmhouse offered plenty of space for all to spread out. Everyone enjoyed the creek. We told scary, and funny, stories by the fire pit and ate our fill of S'mores. 😉

Our family needed a relaxing few days away to play and have fun. The farmhouse was the perfect spot. We spent our days floating on little sugar creek and our evenings playing board games. We would definitely come back.
We stayed at Little Sugar Farms for my sisters Bachelorette party and had a wonderful experience. There were 10 adults spending the night and we had plenty of room and beds for everyone. I would love to come back.
We stayed here for a weekend with 4 adults and 4 children. There was plenty of room for all of us to have space and the children to run and play. Plenty of bathrooms for a group this size too! Being so close to the creek was nice as well. Owners are very nice and easy to work with. Everything was just as listed and we would stay here again.
The stay was perfect. The house had everything we needed. Kitchen has great pots and pans, well stocked with dishes, cups, utensils. Property is well kept and tranquil. Fire pit is awesome. The creek is easy to get to, clear water and great for tubing. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend a visit.
Very nice property for a getaway with or without kids. Owners are awesome!

About the host
Hosted by Jana Reishus
We are two sisters who inherited the farm in 2006 after our grandfather passed away. Jana is currently living on the farm with her husband Paul running their Glamping and Gathering business along with providing love and attention to our farmhouse. Niki lives in the DFW area and is an international flight attendant for Delta Airlines. We spent all our summers at the farm with our grandparents who taught us the value of family, community and hard work and now we love to share our passion for gathering with others by creating a place for retreats, reunions and relaxing vacations. Jana is city gone country and Niki is all city and our farm is our way to share our gift with others so you can create your own memories and stories.
Whether you're staying on the farm in our heritage farmhouse or on our glampground in our Safari or Bell tents we're here to make your outdoor country experience perfect!
Why they chose this property
After we inherited the farm we realized after 100 years of this property owned and managed by our Great Grandfather and Grandfather with help from our Dad that we had to keep this country retreat in the family. Our barns are now a retreat and event space with lighting and seating for 100 people. We've hosted multiple weddings, retreats and events while also creating a space for smaller groups and families to enjoy nature in the Ozarks. We are so grateful that we can keep the farm in our family and let our future generations enjoy what we have and can share it with others.
What makes this property unique
We enjoy traveling down the dirt road to enter a slower lifestyle that most of us don't experience anymore on a daily basis. The farmhouse offers us a retreat from the demands of a hectic lifestyle. However, the farmhouse is close enough to Northwest Arkansas for shopping, dining and nightlife. We also enjoy several very unique local businesses in McDonald county that add charm to the country experience as well as many outdoor attractions including the Elk River, Big Sugar Creek and Mark Twain Forest located minutes from the farmhouse.
The farmhouse sits on the corner of 376 acres. A large amount is leased to a local rancher. This is a working farm and at times you may get a glimpse of what life in the country is really like. Cattle roam in the distant fields, beavers scurry across the yard and if you're lucky you may even see deer crossing over the road to enjoy the creek!
We are also unique in that we kept the family farm and share it with others. Our farm has been in our family for 5 generations and we love the fact our great, great, great parents at one point resided in the farmhouse. It's special place and a gift for us to be able to share our history with others.
