About The Owner

My wife works for a public school district and I am semi retired. We have two grown sons but our dogs are still at home.

We enjoy fishing, camping, hiking and biking. My family and I discovered Shady Cove when my son enrolled at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. We can't wait to retire here.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Southern Oregon

While traveling in Oregon, we fell in love with Shady Cove after taking a raft trip from the Lost Creek Reservoir down the Rogue River into the heart of town. The beauty of the area is unparalleled.

Shady Cove is perfectly situated to enjoy all that Southern Oregon has to offer. The beautiful and unique Crater Lake is a must see adventure to the north. Along the way, visit Union Creek Station, historic Prospect, and breathtaking river views.

Nearby lakes offer fishing, swimming, and boating. Rafting adventures start right in town and guided tours can also be arranged in Grants Pass. Multiple fishing shops and guides make Shady Cove a fisherman's destination.

A short drive south takes you through Eagle Point with its golf course and the still operating 1890's water powered Butte Creek Mill. Continuing west through the modern city of Medford takes you to historic Jacksonville and the Britt Festival, offering art and music events throughout the season. The nearby Applegate Valley is a lovely drive north to shopping and exploring in Grant's Pass.

Just 45 minutes south of Shady Cove is Ashland, home of the world famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Lithia Park.

What makes this house unique

This house sit on a half acre of lawn and pine trees the stretches down to your own private 80 feet of riverfront. We love to sit down by the river and watch the wildlife by day and the stars at night.

We often walk into town for breakfast or coffee. Shady Cove restaurants offer great foor, casual atmosphere, and famous Southern Oregon hospitality.

There are so many parks within minutes, we never run out of new places to explore. Favorite drives include trips to local wineries and gourmet food shops like the Rogue Valley Creamery and Gary West Meats.

Beautiful cute place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The place was a great place to stay, it was really cute inside, and being by the river was a plus.

This was a great central point for us, to visiting crater lake, natural bridge and other wonders around Union Creek, for the great Jet boat ride we took from Central Point (Rogue Jet Boat Adventures) also not far from going over the Jacksonville and other areas..My Granddaughter and her Mom loved selection of games as they played with them every night..

1950's Dream

  • 5 of 5

I felt like I spent a week in a 1950's doll house. It was dreamy!!! The house is full of fabulous antiques and the most amazing red kitchen. The house sits on the river which is fabulous and is fenced in which definitely made me feel safe being their only with my little daughters for a few days before my hubby arrived. We had so much fun baking in the kitchen, playing games, exploring the river and watching movies. The house was a perfect size for our family of 4. It was quiet and peaceful. The owners truly thought of everything. There even was a sewing kit which saved the day when I needed to a quick repair on my dress for my sisters wedding. I highly recommend this property!!!

Charming Home

  • 4 of 5

The grounds are impeccability manicured, the house is clean without exception and it is welcoming to renters with nice touches (thanks for the Tums in the medicine cabinet for late night heartburn). It has a good view of the river from the bedrooms and the kitchen and a nice yard right on the river. It is a renovated charmer and very comfortable with a nice mix of new and old.

The house itself is set back from the street which is fabulous, but the neighbors are a little close and one set of neighbors were very active in their yard which was a little distracting to the peacefulness of being by the river.

My only complaint, which to many could be a feature, is that there is no wifi. My phone didn't get service so I was unable to communicate. I had to drive down the street to call my kids to say goodnight every evening. I know a lot a people like to be "unplugged" but it might be a nice feature to add or maybe a landline for safety at least.

Got my deposit returned timely and the owners were very friendly.

Nice cabin, difficulty getting damage deposit back

  • 1 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The house is as described and in a great location. We have had no contact from the owner since our stay and have yet to receive a return of our damage deposit. The house was left in great, clean condition with no damage.

Owner's Response: Guest's full deposit refund was mailed 14 days after their departure date, in compliance with the rental instructions. The deposit refund check was cashed 7 days later. We are unsure what caused the difficulty in contacting us, as our records show a response within 24 hours of the single communication we received. Guest did not respond to 2 e-mails and 3 phone message we left in response to their inquiry about the deposit so perhaps there is a technical difficulty.
