Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 1 Bath, sleeps 5 and smokehouse studio(Sleeps 2)

The Little Peak Creek cabin is located on 68 acres on some of the most beautiful mountain land in the high county. There is open pasture land, with farm animals for the whole family to enjoy. There are large hardwood forests and pine forests with trails winding all through the property. The trail to the over look offers a deck and chairs, and a view of every major mountain in the county, including the mountains in Virginia .

Gather your own eggs and fresh vegetables when in season from the cabin garden. In the evening the property is great for stargazing as there is no light pollution . Enjoy the cabin's front yard and lull away the afternoon in the hammock. There is a large Bocce ball court in the front yard for day and night time entertainment.. Enjoy reading and relaxing on the front or back porch, or on a rainy day find a movie to watch. The cabin has Direct tv, and has all the movie channels, it has wi-fi. The kids can enjoy the Smokehouse sand box which is on the lower level and is enclosed, while you can watch from rocking chairs on the porch. We have bikes on the property that you can use and will gladly provide you with suggested routes and back packs for your outing. If you love animals we have chickens, goats, ducks, geese, donkeys dogs and horses. Feel free to visit them as you wander the property on our hiking trails .

The owners live in a separate lodge on the property , but are a good distance from the cabin offering all the privacy you want. Their home is adjacent to a pond and it has a small doc., Although they prefer to consider the pond area their private space, as they have guest so frequently , they are happy for you to stop to snap a picture or two. As you pass their home and on the trail to the overlook you will see hillsides planted with wildflowers in the spring, summer and fall.

The cabin at Little Peak Creek Farm is charming and allows you to return to a simpler time. It is decorated beautifully and provides a homey atmosphere. You will want to adopt it as your own second home after your first visit. In the summer we provide you with a delightful kitchen garden where you can pick your own lettuce, herbs and tomatoes and cucumbers for the freshest salad you have ever tasted. The Willingham's personal garden, where they grow their food for winter, is a place to visit and learn about the plants grown there or you can produce some beautiful photographs to document your trip. The smokehouse studio is a private space to sleep 2 and you will hear and see the creek and water fall from your bed! The stunning barn rebuilt in 2013, after a tragic fire, is a delight to everyone for collecting eggs and visiting with the animals.

The cabin is well located for everything you would want to do. It is only 15 minuets from the historic town of West Jefferson. The town has a wide variety of interesting shops, great choices for dining, galleries, and a wonderful farmers market.

There are back street concerts, as well as many other events all around Ashe county. There are plays and performances at the Civic Center year round. From the cabin you can be on the New River in only 2 minuets for tubing, fishing, kayaking or canoeing , The Blue Ridge Parkway is only five minutes away. A stable is also a short 5 minute drive from your back door where the whole family can take a horse back riding trip through the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains . The New River State Park is only 10 minutes away , with an indoor theater and walk through exhibit where you can learn about the history of the county. The farm adjoins Wagoner State Park where you can hike and enjoy the river. Across the street from the driveway is a gem mine where children and adults can pan for interesting gems and treasures from the old Ore Knob Mine . In 2014 one lucky individual found a sapphire valued at $16,000. The owner there can set your stones if you wish to create an unusual piece of jewelry to remember your trip ! In the winter the ski slopes are about 1 and a half hour away, there is sledding on the farm.

Peaceful, relaxing, and perfectly welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay on the Willinghams farm. The cabin was quaint and cozy. The yard was beautiful and had so much to enjoy. Our little ones loved eating their breakfast at the patio table, and particularly enjoyed when the dogs would come sit beneath their feet as they ate. We enjoyed making smores over a fire a couple nights. Visiting with the farm animals was such a delight. Our little girl cried as we drove away for the last time, and still mentions missing the baby goat, Sally, at least once a day. We enjoyed a hike to the lookout and the view was absolutely stunning as well as the sitting area being so relaxing. We had rain a couple days during our stay, but the kids enjoyed playing some of the games available inside and they also enjoyed watching tv, as they had channel options available that they aren't used to having at home! Steve and Lisa were so sweet and quick to offer ideas of things to check out. We could have stayed forever!

Perfect weekend getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this property based on description and reviews. I am a country girl that married a city boy. This was the PERFECT compromise for us. The interaction with the animals is as hands on as you're comfortable with, the dogs are friendly and came by each morning to say hi, and the property itself is breathtaking. We got fresh eggs daily, even my husband collected eggs! The hike to the Overlook was completely worth it. The views were incredible and the lack of mosquitoes makes everything so much better! We had absolutely perfect weather.

Lisa and Steve were fantastic hosts! They interacted with us as much as we wanted and had fantastic recommendations for places to eat. We enjoyed hearing about the land and everything they've done and are doing. We also kayaked with Zaloos which was great, and drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway to dinner one night.

West Jefferson may be the cutest town in all of America. Good food, good people, good beer, the cheese factory.....I could go on and on. We were only 15 minutes from town which was also a huge plus for feeling as if you're staying "off the grid" but not really being that far "off".

We came sans kids so the cabin was more than enough space. We felt that no amenities were lacking during our stay.

We can't wait to come back and bring the kids! Our daughter is very excited to meet the animals! A must see!

Perfectly Charming

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolutely perfect. Every time we turned around there was another little perfect touch. The cabin is well equipped with everything you need . The property is stunning ! Plenty of walking and hiking to do without having to leave the farm ; but if you want to go to New River or other hiking areas they are very close by.

Hank, Ella and Molly are the best dogs ! Having the Yellow Labs to follow you on your walk , was so great. Gathering your own fresh eggs for breakfast was a highlight.

Thank you Lisa and Steve for creating and sharing this awesome place. I will for sure return.

Very special place - great for families with little kids

  • 5 of 5

There's a reason this place has solid 5 star reviews.... it is truly marvelous. The farm is just gorgeous and so well kept. The rolling hills are beautiful. The view from the lookout is spectacular. The cabin is clean, cute, and cozy and has everything you need. The hosts are just as thoughtful and kind as can be. The animals (ducks, chickens, goats, dogs, donkeys and horse) are all friendly and so fun to feed! The location is great for adventures like horse back riding and canoeing. There's nothing but good to say about this place. Our kids LOVED it - said it was the best vacation ever. Our 5 year old went to the barn to collect eggs multiple times each day and was tickled pink about that. We had a blast. If you are mountain bikers, bring your bikes! If you enjoy hiking, lace up your boots. You will not be bored here. They have bocce ball, badminton, board games and a fire pit too. Awesome place. Can't wait to return.
