About Ida

Lucky for me, my parents moved our family to Idyllwild and into this house when I was a child. I was lucky enough to be afforded the opportunity to grow up in this amazing town. I grew up writing poetry on the deck with only moonlight to illuminate the page, climbing rocks, building snowmen and having many snowball fights with my brother and sister. There were many 'White Chirstimas' mornings and Thanksgiving day hikes. My family still gathers at the house to share laughter, love and tales of life's experiences. It is a place we will always call home and I am excited to share it with you.

Ida purchased this lodge in 1976

Why Ida chose Idyllwild

This home was built in 1945, by Lou Britton and has since been owned by the Famous Mystery Author, Earle Stanley Gardner, whose ownership created a local nickname of 'The Mystery Cabin.' I try to create that same sense of awe upon your arrival that I felt as a child walking through the giant wood door and looking up onto the sky high knotty pine ceilings! Wow!

What makes this lodge unique

Five minute walk to the centre of Idyllwild's restaurants, shopping, music, and art galleries. The homeowner's family has vacationed and lived in Idyllwild for over 46 years and is committed to providing you and your family with personal service to optimmize your stay with us.

Great property for a family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Ida is fabulous. The house is fully equipped and stocked with basic items! We spent three days there for a family get together! We enjoyed the baked hoodies , oranges for squeezing so, treats for the children, flowers , hot tub and all that the house had to offer! Easy walk to town! We played games to a roaring fire and hiked in the mountains ! This was our third consecutive year and we hope to keep it a yearly tradition!

January 27-29, 2017 SoCal Hiking Divas

  • 4 of 5

Lovely, comfortable, spacious cabin. Our hiking group loved it! Just a few things...one half roll of paper towels really was not enough, also, no firewood. If you go, bring your own. Wish we would have known. Kitchen is fully stocked with whatever utensil a cook would need, just not much counter space for preparation. Since there was recent snow, the driveway was not plowed, and we drove by the house several times, not realizing the long, snow covered driveway. was where we should have turned, and CLIMBED. Weather, what can ya do?

The view was great, the location real close to town. In the spring/summer, it would be an easy walk.

A great view of the surrounding mountain, and cute wild life all around (not the biting kind).

In conclusion, yes, would stay again. :-)

Could not have been a better White Christmas!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 9 (plus 2 who stayed down the road at the Strawberry Bunkhouse) enjoyed 4 nights at Casa de Luz over Christmas 2016. We settled in on the 23rd, and overnight it snowed 8-10 inches. Ida was friendly and very responsive. She provided everything we asked for, including Christmas decorations, a lovely decorated tree, firewood for the fireplace -- and sleds once the snow came. (She also left gifts for the children.) We were comfortable and cozy, and we walked into town each day for shopping, snacks and lunches out. We loved this vacation, and would not change a thing! (And it was only 2 hours from San Diego.) Thanks so much, Ida!

Amazing getaway! Experience the warmth and charm of idyllwild at this great place.

  • 5 of 5

Ida is an amazing hostess! We felt so welcomed. From the baked goods to the special gift and champagne to help us celebrate my moms 80th birthday every detail was there. The kitchen is well stocked, great selection of videos and even poker chips and cards for family fun. We arrived on 12/27 and found the place decorated for Christmas with a tree and all. Just lovely! We enjoyed hot tub under the stars and comfy beds ensured a good nights sleep. The master suite is amazing!!! Lots of room for everyone to lounge around the fire. Plus the location and proximity to town is great! Only a 10 minute walk. We'll definitely be back!

Very spacious home, suitable for our family gathering.

  • 4 of 5

This property was a fit for our trip to Idyllwild for our annual family gathering and wind ensemble concert at the Idyllwild Arts Academy. The kitchen was fully equipped and there were more than adequate dishes, glasses, etc for everyone and every meal ! We loved the fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade banana bread - yum !

The home was exceptionally clean, and for a particularly clean person myself, this was really nice. Close to town, easy to find and a lovely deck to enjoy sitting outside in the evenings.

It was unseasonably hot the first two nights and so some of our crew had difficulty sleeping in the upstairs rooms without air conditioning (we had the fans going, but it never cooled off sufficiently). Other than that, this is a delightful older home built in the 40s and very well maintained. Thank you to our host, Ida, for your thorough communications throughout.
