Beautiful Cabin W/ Best Views of River Falls and Chimney Rock

Bedrooms 5
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Cabin, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Sleeps 9. Mountain and river views in every room.

“The most exceptional property in the area”. The cabin is built on large stone boulders overhanging the Rocky Broad River. Climb the cascading waterfall on the property. Fish from one of the large boulders, just steps from your door. Swim in the waterhole. Tube down the falls. Hop the stones. Or quietly watch for wildlife. You can do all of this while chatting with those relaxing on one of the 2 large decks, one of the stone patios, or one of the large rocks. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!

Take a short stroll to downtown Chimney Rock with its unique shops and restaurants. Walk to the entrance of Chimney Rock State Park. Or spend the day on Lake Lure with its many water activities.

When entering the main home, you will be stepping back to the ambience of a 1930’s mountain cabin with original wood floors, ceilings and walls. The living room and dining room have been opened to view the outside scenery. The furniture is custom-made mountain laurel. All the bathrooms have been updated and enlarged. The large fully equiped modern kitchen will be a gathering place with its elevated table. It’ll be easy to prepare for a crowd with the 5-burner gas stove and double oven. Or if you prefer, cook on the grill outside the back door.

You’ll never lack for activities for the family. There’s a firepit at water’s edge for visiting and roasting marshmellows, a large yard for yard games, stone benches for watching the sun set, patios for viewing your own private cascading waterfall, the 360 degree mountain views, or Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Falls in Chimney Rock State Park. Or walk along the landscaped stone paths to take in the beauty of the site and the exotic trees and plants.

A one room stone cottage sits next to the main house. It sits high on a large boulder and is built of native stone 16 inches thick. It features a full bath and an efficiency kitchen. All of the above amenities of the site are available for your enjoyment. This cottage can be rented as a package with the cabin or seperately. Please call for details and rate information.

About Bernadine Darling

This mountain home was bought by a mother and her adult professional children. This is our dream second home and have enjoyed numerous family get togethers and quality time together since the cabins purchase.

Bernadine Darling purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Bernadine Darling chose Blue Ridge Mountains

The property is a very short stroll to downtown Chimney Rock. Restaurants and shopping are truely a 2 minute walk away as well as the entrance to Chimney Rock State Park. Although it is right in town the property itself is extremely private with the most breathtaking views of the Rocky Broad River, the mountains, a cascading waterfall outside your back door, and private paths. The property is unlike anything we have ever dreamed of as it has everything we could have possible wanted or needed as far as location and views

What makes this cabin unique

You can't help but relax and enjoy the nature and mountain air. We watch the river otter sunning himself on the large rock next to our swimming hole, while getting the fishing pole ready for a day of trout fishing outside our back door. We relax by the fire pit, while counting the fireflys illuminating the night sky. We get up to enjoy the sunrise while sitting on our private stone bench and eat our picnic lunch on a rock in the middle of the cascading fall in our back yard.

Beautiful location !!!

  • 4 of 5

The location of this home was perfect ! We had a rushing river behind the house that we all went tubing in & the teens spent hours exploring. Yet we could go out the front walk to town for dinner or milkshakes because it was so close. Perfect location - right in town yet you feel secluded because of the great area behind the house. The view of the waterfall was beautiful & we loved sitting on the deck listening to the river. We grilled & enjoyed the fire pit. The outdoor space at this home is awesome.

The home is what is as described - a 1930's mountain home. Nothing fancy but plenty of rooms for everyone & a nice kitchen. We did have a bear peaking in our kitchen window early one morning - gave my son quite the scare haha !! The owner was very helpful in answering all our questions. We would definitely stay again !

Family Gathering

  • 4 of 5

The house/cabin was awesome, just like pictures. The only thing was in the area, no cell phone service. Good thing there are tv instructions, since those remotes were a little tricky. The house so spacious for even for 8 of us. The best part was the water running in the back river sounded like the ocean! Thank you for renting to us.

Owner's Response: Most cellphone services work on the deck and in certain rooms. First time we have heard this comment.

Chimney Rock cabin

  • 3 of 5

The very best thing about this property is the location next to the river. The kids loved exploring and climbing on the rocks- we enjoyed the fire pit for smores and taking in the starry sky. Pros of the house are the upstairs deck, large kitchen, ample sleeping space, and good wifi. Our girls enjoyed the big bathtub upstairs. However, in my opinion, the house needs some TLC. The two rooms my family slept in had sheets with tears in them. The grill has seen better days and the propane tank was empty so we could not get it to work during our short stay. The shower curtain in our bathroom was mildewed. And I agree with a prior reviewer that the house needs a deep cleaning, there was dust and dirt on the floors behind doors and on the edges of rooms. All of these things together led to some disappointment with the property.

"lord of the flies"

  • 3 of 5

To borrow the book's title, it describes 2-3 days of our recent stay; flies everywhere. Local caretaker explained "they seem to come every month or so," but we'd not been told, there wasn't evidence of preventive maintenance, and we were totally unprepared for the onslaught. The cabin's location is aesthetically terrific, but the facility itself could benefit from an improved cleaning service; top to bottom, kitchen cupboards, closets, etc. And beware: the loft type bedroom (single bed) has NO ventilation. cough/cough. Outside cottage was a lifesaver; really nice.

Owner's Response: We have never received a complaint before about flies. According to our pest control technician, there has been an infestation of flies and insects in general due to an extremely warm winter and now a hot summer. This house does sit atop rocks right on the river in a densely forested mountain region, so nature is always at your doorstep, both good and bad. As the owner, I wish my renters had contacted me directly regarding this problem. I would have had our pest control service out immediately to pinpoint and correct the problem With the incredible heat wave this summer, I appreciate the renter's comments regarding the attic bedroom. I will have a window fan installed to improve circulation during the hottest of summer months.
