Thank you, Kathie and Bob for your wonderful hospitality. We truly enjoyed meeting you. We were very content and comfortable at the Carriage House. The cottage was very cozy, the beds very comfortable, and in a great location from which to explore the area. The homemade peanut butter ice cream which Bob brought over for us was a delightful treat!
It was fabulous location so close to the beach. We enjoyed our evening walks along beautiful Sandy River Beach, watching the tides change and searching for sea glass, until it was too dark to find any more. Watching from the beach out front one night we were treated to the most beautiful full moon rise we had ever seen, huge and orange and reflecting on the calm water, like a huge candle.
We were fortunate to have 4 consecutive days of beautiful sunny weather. We kayaked four days in a row, eager to take advantage of the good weather. We enjoyed kayaking in the marsh and around the small island where we watched the bald eagle as he sat quietly posing in the sunight. On other days we kayaked out to Roque Island to the outer cove, and then enjoyed lunch on the small outer beach; and another day on Machias Bay, around the beautiful islands there, riding the swells, and then down to Jasper beach, where we collected some polished stones, feeling like kids. By the time the rain arrived for the last two days, we were so tired it was just as well that we were forced to take the time to get some rest, but it feels like we left so much undone, such as hiking out on Great Wass and other day trips up to Lubec & Eastport. One week was definitely not long enough - I hope we make it back up here!
