About Marie Zarilla

I am semi-retired and I live on the property. Truth is, it's a full time job maintaining, cleaning, and updating Sanctuaire. But, it is my labor of love.

Marie Zarilla purchased this house in 2000

Why Marie Zarilla chose Sonoma County

Sanctuaire is a secluded beautiful Victorian-style home that can accommodate up to 5 people. The home is surrounded by 30 acres of oaks, redwoods, hills, and creeks with views that take your breath away. The only neighbors are birds, squirrels, other non-threatening wildlife!

What makes this house unique

Sanctuaire is most unique because of its seclusion from the hectic world. Surrounded by 30 acres of tress, creeks, and hills, total privacy awaits you.

Quiet, secluded beauty!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this amazing property. While a little remote, if you're looking to REALLY get away, this is a great location! Pool and hot tub were a nice treat! We hope to come back!

A unique little get away

  • 5 of 5

We loved it. It's a unique little spot set back in the canyon and very secluded. You can tell lot of love was put into hand crafting many of the details, that added a great deal to the charm. The owner was supper helpful over the phone before check in and then left us to enjoy the property. While we absolutely loved it here, I will suggest that this spot Is more appropriate to those who are looking to get away and enjoy peace and quite. Drink your coffe on the deck as watch dear cross the yard. Take a dip in the pool or BBQ your dinner. Yet while the amenities are well cared for they are not new and are better suited to responsible adults who can be somewhat gentle. If you are looking for a beer soaked weekend on the river, you may want to seek another property.

A few things I that would have been helpful for me to know... The kitchen is well stocked: blender, coffee pot, coffee grinder, lots of pots pans, cookie sheet, broiling pan, knives, toaster, salt, pepper, sugar, salad dressing, condiments, spices (likely all left over from previous guests so interesting mix). We thought they had a good supply of extra blankets, a few towels each, but there is a washer, so...Bring beach towels, and food storage options.

The property is very rustic but amongst nice surrounding.area.

Not a good stay at all I would not recommend staying here to anyone the owners customer service skills are appalling as I learned when she decided to personally visit abruptly . The internal property is well laid out on VRBO picture site but on closer inspection not so great there are too many issues to let the door handles were so flimsy they could come off in your hand even by a child, in the lower ground rooms a door remains locked I don't know what is in there, but a horrible smell permeates the area and the bed sheets smelled terrible. The pool is adequate but the jacuzzi is dated very and old it was also turned off two days before we left, I called the service number but got no help, also no chlorine tablets were supplied to put into jacquzzi the water smelled. Upon my return to u.k the owner claimed damage to tiles but has provided no photographic evidence, as requested. Instead has refused to return deposits paid. I had a dreadful experience and would not recommend this place to anyone

Owner's Response: in response to our guest~Vinod~First Vinod did not provide any response requested about his needs for a vacation rental~ He pitched a tent on the grounds and had a party loud enough to alert a response from neighbors~ Upon becoming informed of this i looked in on the grounds~saw the tent ~and responded to his hot tub needs~the hot tub was over used by guest's and automatically shuts down when body oils and overflow of h20 commences~The tiles in the upstairs kitchen area are badly damaged and photo's have been submitted~I believe if Mr Vinod had communicated to myself his expectations for a suitable Vacation rental there would have not been any problems~ He was a very happy guest until it came to his attention of the damage to the tiles> I have no desire to complicate his damage deposit once the damage has been able to be attended to~ remaining damage deposit will be refunded~This guest upon meeting him went on and on about how wonderful the property was and how well he would take care of the home~We are sold out for more than fifteen yrs ~ and do our very best to fix things in the home as fast as possible~I believe that this guest is upset that he has not received his deposit back as yet~and is purposefully upset at me ~unfortunately the tiles look like carotid car battery cables~unfortunately 8 tiles~sadly the remaining guest's have had to view this~I'm willing to overlook said guest's extra guest's tent~ect~ BUT~ i do need to fix those tiles~door knob is a victorian door~beautiful leaded beveled glass~It was re screwed in wa la~No biggie`~ This property is a very special place and you will find other reviews to validate the integrity that is very present here~

Secluded Get Away

Sanctuaire is a wonderfull place to realize relaxation and peace! Sanctuaire is wonderful place to explore new and exciting adventures!

With only 3 days notice our family of 4 booked this cabin through Marie, the owner, and we were pleasantly surprised that she was our point of contact as opposed to a property management company. It is apparent that Marie cares about her guests... The moment you enter the artistic and eclectic cabin you are greeted by a warm wood fire and beautiful fresh cut flowers. Each room in this cabin churns curiosity in craftsmanship and art.

Aside from the comfort of this cabin, the assortment of activities available nearby are endless. My 5 year old daughter got to experience for the first time crabbing and harvesting mussels in nearby Bodega Bay. Fort Ross was a lesson in early American history. The property a provided nice stomping ground for both kids to explore. They were estatic to be greeted by both Mountain Quail and Deer in the morning.

I would recommend this location for any family looking to rid themselves of the hussel of the city. This cabin truly is a place worth the name Sanctuaire!

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

It was just awesome.. the pics don't do justice to the place at all. Each and everything in the house is well thought and matched perfectly, you cannot just take out one glitch..Totally a lovable place upon that very well equipped with everything you need from utensils to spices. Everything was just perfect from rooms to bathrooms.. big windows you can just sit and watch out or just wake up in morning and see the beautiful tress all around from the open big door just in your bedroom and have a feel of this wonderful romantic place. The fireplace was just awesome of old 50's. 3 decks, BBQ, Swimming pool, a small pond full of lilies and yeah dogs are welcomed :) in the pond, hot tub and just endless list. Too much of place for your dogs to play around, don't worry about the neighbors, they are just too far way. The owner lives in a separate house on the property, but wait! You don't need to worry about that too, they have a big high wall :) so you have your complete secluded area..lots and lots of open ground, trees, birds chirping, in night listen to someone walking (deers), words are just too less to describe this place. I must say you should just go here, DON'T MISS IT and just surprise your partner, don't worry about anything. I bet you won't be disappointed. Thanks a lot Marie we had a wonderful time at your place nothing could have been better then this. We have been to lot many VRBO properties but I must say this one is just simply the best. You guys will remain in our top list every year.
