About Marie Zarilla
I am semi-retired and I live on the property. Truth is, it's a full time job maintaining, cleaning, and updating Sanctuaire. But, it is my labor of love.
Marie Zarilla purchased this House in 2000
Why Marie Zarilla chose Cazadero
Sanctuaire is a secluded beautiful Victorian-style home that can accommodate up to 5 people. The home is surrounded by 30 acres of oaks, redwoods, hills, and creeks with views that take your breath away. The only neighbors are birds, squirrels, other non-threatening wildlife!
What makes this House unique
Sanctuaire is most unique because of its seclusion from the hectic world. Surrounded by 30 acres of tress, creeks, and hills, total privacy awaits you.

Very private location in a wonderful setting. The home is like a fairytale mountain cabin.
Unique, comfortable home. Very cozy (but not meaning small!) house. Comfy beds. Well equipped kitchen. Great outdoor areas. A good 25 minutes from any real civilization so be sure you have your groceries, etc. great place to relax.
Bohemian charm and Victorian opulence in the Russian River Valley
As a neurotic, stressed, and sunlight-deprived New Yorker, I was desperately looking for a getaway in the middle of nowhere that still offered the creature comforts to which I'm accustomed. I happened to stumble upon Sanctuaire and was in love from the first site, and I eagerly counted down the weeks to my late-August reservation.
A one-lane, winding road takes you past ancient redwoods and moss-covered boulders, leading to a wide, wooden gate. Once you drive through, you're greeted with a stunning view of the cabin, perched atop of a hill, next to an inviting stone path that leads you to the pool and hot tub, and lily-covered pond. The inside looked even better in person -- every detail is well thought out, from the ornately-carved dining room table to the sumptuous rugs throughout the house. There were so many beautiful antique pieces of furniture (I was lusting over the acacia cabinet in the ground-floor bedroom), all set off by a plethora of lamps and lights.
A few other highlights:
-The clawfoot tub in the master bedroom is nothing short of heaven. You can grab a book from the collection (I chose Maureen Dowd's "Are Men Necessary?"), a nice glass of pinot, and go to your happy place.
-Each bedroom has its own private terrace, overlooking the forest, a perfect place to savor some tea and watch the sun -- or moon -- rise
-The kitchen, though small, is quite well-equipped. My friend was able to whip up several complicated, gourmet dishes with the various pots, pans, utensils, and spices found there. Because it's a schlep to get into the nearest town of Guerneville (it takes about a half hour), I recommended stocking up on groceries and unplugging for as long as possible.
-Pool paradise: The pool is large enough to swim laps or laze about on a float (fyi, we left an inflatable donut for future use for any millennial hoping to Instagram their #poolgoals), and the hot tub easily seated three and got hot enough to feel like a lobster pot (I'm personally more of a pool person, anyways). On my last night, my friends and I took a dip under the stars, and it was magical.

The Quiet Will Settle Your Soul.
This is the place for you if you want privacy and solitude in a beautiful outdoor setting with a sunny pool to savor it all! Loved our stay and are certain to return again. The house is eclectic and is a good retreat at the end of the day. Fresh flowers in a vase and comfy beds available to sleep 5. The only disappointments to mention were the number of spiderwebs we encountered throughout the house, the lack of a fourth adjustable lounger by the pool, and no pool noodles to use in the pool. These small oversights are forgivable, as the property is otherwise so nice!
scott~ pool noodles~ there are 3 8ftrs in the pool house wind blows them around and can be quiet dangerous for guest's to try and retrieve them~ as close as we are to the coast~ Have a great summer~Total of 9 chairs and one chair for 2 around pool~will work on more seating around pool~Sorry about spiders~ they are quite diligent~in these parts~wish you had mentioned the noodles~ Take care and we hope to see you again~Marie
Our family vacation was AMAZING. A beautiful hide away, its easy to escape from the world and relax. Marie is awesome and gives you your privacy. We cant wait for our next visit!!!!
We had a wonderful stay at Cazadero. This is a truly unique property. The wood used to build the house gives it an older feel but the modern kitchen and bathrooms are wonderful to use. The main deck is huge and there are outdoor sitting areas off all the bedroom spaces. The pool and hot tub were delightful but the secluded feeling of the property was our favorite feature. We did not hear another voice or see another person the entire stay. We loved it.
Hello Nancy and relatives~ I felt the same way about your visit~Hope you had a great trip back home~I'm sending you thanks so much for taking such great care of the place~In unity~Marie
