Nice place, great location.

We had a great week and the property fit our family and friends nicely. There are some very nice feature to the house and we were very happy with our time there. However, the property managers don’t respond on VRBO so use their 800 service. Also, the pool has no shade so bring an easy-up. As others have said the houses are very close together but it made for good people watching.

The bedrooms were great, and there was enough space for people to find a quiet spot whenever they didn’t want to hang out in the great room— even our big dog, found his own cozy corner! Everyone loved the pool and hot tub and beach access was easy. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook meals for our large group. It was a wonderful break, and we would definitely rent this property again!

Perfect

This is a pet friendly house so its expected to me that there may be some pet hair and stains on the carpet. Completely fine. Other than that the place was very clean. The location was even closer to the beach than we expected witu two access points within a four minute walk. Yes, we timed it. The pool area was perfect. We couldnt figure out the ice makers either in the fridge or on the counter. Some instructions would be nice as we ran out of ice after the first day. Overall we were super happy with our stay.

We had a great time swimming with the grandkids in the pool. It was a great time in the house everything we needed was there. We all loved the house except for the heavy rain that knocked out the direct tv service for the one night we had a heavy rain. That was only gripe that we all had about the house.

Reviewer Comments: The location is fine, not far from beach, BUT the houses are really close together and from our deck we could see the entire back of the houses adjacent to us... so no privacy whatsoever. People are friendly, so its not an issue really, but if the neighbor is having a riotous good time, you feel like you are in their backyard too.House layout and facilities are good, no issues.The decks in particular provide a lot of options to sit out in the sun or shade and the furnaiture is decentPool is nice and the hot tub well maintained.There was a yucky puddle along the fence, but otherwise a fine pool areaThe pool table was level and well maintained and it played well... which given some rain, got a fair amount of use some days.For us we like more privacy, less people on beach.

The cleaning crew had a family emergency on the morning of check in and we didn't get checked in until a little later than expected but we made the best of the situation. The other cleaning crews from the are came and had the house spotless in no time at all and they were really nice people. The house is amazing there were a few issues with and the handyman came out the next day and repaired them. I don't want this to be a bad review I understand things happen, it's what you do to fix them that matters and these people went above and beyond. My mother-in-law was really happy with this place and that's what matters the most to us. Caught some nice bass in the pond next to the house as well. Dolphin sightings at the beach every day we couldn't have asked for a better vacation and house. We will be back!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: While the home has potential, we would not rent again. All around the house outside filthy, cigarette butts, trash everywhere, left side a fowl fish odor. Dirty linens and a chemical sprayer laid out front all week. Cleanliness inside minimal. Property management nonresponsive (seemed annoyed) until the door fell off the outside shower. Property needs serious maintenance, mold around vents concerning. No ocean view, very disappointed. The owner adequately communicated written instructions and the welcome bag appreciated. Pros-convenient beach access, view of lake from master bedroom. Our family spent all day most days at the ocean, rented surf boards and with young children enjoyed the pool, hot tub and fine dining in our home for the week.

My retirement get away

Reviewer Comments: While my 9 friends and I enjoyed the house, the pool, the numerous balconies, and the location, we were not satisfied with the cleanliness and calls/texts to the office went unanswered or unaddressed. The house itself is very large and the 9 of us were very comfortable. Then amenities were great, the blue tooth stereo was a plus. Now for the beware: the outdoor areas were not addressed by the cleaners. After over an hour, I had the numerous pool toys left behind in one area,and the outdoor showers, and the patio clear of sand. I don't believe the patio had been washed down all season. Every trash can was full. Not only full but one had maggots. With trash day being Saturday, I can't believe that the cleaners would not have made sure that the trash was put out. I do not know when the floor was last mopped but it was not before we came in. Not all of the bathrooms were cleaned. We called the office, waited for the cleaners who never showed up, and were give a new shower curtain to replace the moldy one by the maintenance crew who were servicing another house. Yes, I did address these issues with the office as well as whether I needed to stop to check in. I was told that if I was not getting pool passes that I did not need to check in. Walking in to NO toilet paper was a little jaring. The Welcome package of paper products, soap, etc was non existent. I called the office and was told that they did not leave those at the rentals that I had to stop in the office to get it. Went to the office and was given pool passes... no package. So for size, location, ambiance this is a great place. For cleanliness, be ready to clean. For response from the office...

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: First I want to say we had a wonderful vacation with our family, friends and of course our fur babies. This house was in a good location and enjoyed the lake views and the kids were able to kayak and paddle board in the lake. We also enjoyed having a pool in the back yard and are accustomed to having a pool. The property description was accurate regarding the location and amenities. Very relaxing vacation. For the downside...The house was not clean upon arrival. The shower curtain liner downstairs had a significant amount of mold on them which was disgusting and black mold which had to be present for a significant amount of time. The Keurig machine leaked which was later replaced by maintenance. Maintenance also changed out the shower curtain liner and took a picture of the amount of mold on in which he too also found disgusting. Maintenance also had to unclog the downstairs bathtub/shower as it would not drain. Maintenance also had to change the flood light bulbs. This was on Monday and check in was on Saturday. There were also ants in the kitchen and bedroom and family member woke up with ants on her. On Wednesday evening the stove/over stopped working and the emergency maintenance number was called and I was informed that maintenance would be calling. I still have not received a call from maintenance to date and have been home from vacation for a week at the time of this review. Anyhow, we later identified that somehow the stove/oven managed to come unplugged so that is concerning for a safety hazard. I appreciate that linens and towels were included with the rental but only 2 sets of towels were provided for each bedroom since one bedroom has 4 bunk beds. We are also thankful for the washer and dryer however, it took multiple cycles for the dryer to dry clothes. We would consider staying at this location in the future if maintenance issues and most definitely the cleaning issues are resolved.

We were very disappointed with the house entirely. The outside was dirty. Nothing like the pictures. The whole inside was filthy. We had to clean as we used the rooms. The carpets were so dirty our socks showed the filth. There was dust on walls and ceiling fans. Under the counter wine cooler and microwave was grimy. There were bugs. The master bedroom headboard had nails coming through it towards the mattress direction. There were several dresser drawers that almost fell out when pulled opened. The faucet fell off taking a shower in one of the bathrooms on the middle floor. We had connection issues with some of the tv's. There were not enough utensils to eat with or cook with. Pots and Pans are old and worn out. The living space is very small for a seven-bedroom house, and the couches were worn out and uncomfortable. We had to contact the reality office the first three days out of our five days stay. I would never refer this house to anybody. The worst thing when renting a house out of town, if the condition is horrible, there's not a lot you can do and nowhere else you can go. Our money was already spent on this house, and the reality company wasn't much help. You are pretty stuck with the nightmare. Just as we were. My sister's made a comment that the house and its furnishings were raggedy. I couldn't have said that any better. I will never rent this house or even a house from Beach Reality of NC, Inc.

Not Worth the Money

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My family has gone to the OBX annually for about 40 years and, although for the last 20 years we have stayed in Whalehead, we always selected a different house each year just to try something different. This year, due to the high cost of rentals, we elected to stay in the Ocean Sands community, which was a bit more affordable for us, yet still quite costly. With regard to the community itself, although there was a very nice community pool and tennis/pickleball courts, the houses were very packed together which then resulted in a very packed beach experience which was not to our liking. Although we were able to enter our house earlier than expected, once we were in it was not cleaned to our satisfaction. The floors were very dirty as were the rugs in the living room and the bedrooms. The kitchen table needed to be cleaned when we arrived. The house in general seems to need a good deep cleaning. Although the bedroom space was just what we needed and the beds were comfortable, the general living space was not big enough for us. We did not have enough comfortable seating in the living room for the eight adults that we had with us. Finally, the pool area was quite cramped and was literally next to the pool of the house behind ours. We felt like we were practically on top of the house behind ours to the point that we could hear what those people were talking about when they were outside enjoying their pool/hot tub. We would not stay there again, nor would we recommend it to any of our friends or family. It was not worth the price that we payed.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Worst home we have ever rented at OBX. Horrible condition. It is obvious the owner of this home has no pride in ownership. It is outdated, run down, and not at all well maintained. Appliances in home were either not working or well past time to be replaced. Odd mismatch of kitchen items. For instance, 3 rolling pins but no measuring cups. Carpet is like paper in the bedrooms. No privacy in this neighborhood/area. Extremely close to other homes. I understand a dog-friendly home is not going to be pristine, but this is just lack of care and attention by the owners. I paid WAY TOO MUCH for this rundown home. I would never, ever stay here again. Extremely disappointed.

Reviewer Comments: the house was ok but for the price of the rental there were many issues, the area around the pool was a overgrown with grass and weeds and in general a mess, the property was not clean when we moved in, the front door was rusted and sticking the whole stay. We contacted the relator about an issue with the fridge when we first got there and it took a day and a half for them to actually come out to address the issue. We have been coming to the outer bank for years and this was the worst property we have ever rented and the reality company was far below what we are used to .

Thanksgiving at the Beach

Everything worked, was a short two block walk to beach access and a path around the lake is literally one house away. There are tennis courts, one of which was marked for pickle ball. Harris Teeter is a mile away should you need provisions. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

The only thing that was a bummer is that there isnt much of grass or yard and the pool isnt heated. Other than that we had a great stay.

Loved The House

The house was as described and my family and I loved it. It looked and smelled clean. However the house could benefit from a deep cleaning, especially the floors on the top level. The main downside was the pool area being taken over by flies.

Family / wedding

We got together with our 5 children and our 4grandchildren and my 80 yr old mother and brother and had the best time just going to beach and hanging by pool!! We also decided to get married on the beach after being together 24 yrs !!! Great time !
