Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bath, (Sleeps 8)

Come find out why we love our camp, the lake, and the North Country so much. Whether it's quiet evenings in a rocking chair on the screened in porch watching the moon rise over the lake, or for the fun and adventures the lake and the Adirondack North Country have to offer, this camp has and does it all. The fall colors are spectacular in the North Country and seeing them by boat from the lake is something special.

Built in 1939 by my Grandfather, modernized in the 80's, now it's available for you to enjoy. I live on the property. I have a separate apartment, so you can see as little or as much of me as you like. I'm there to be your tour guide, boat captain, watersport instructor for wakeboarding, waterskiing, stand up paddleboarding, and tubing, leading day hikes and beautiful road bike rides, or just in the background as your invisible caretaker making sure everything goes smoothly. I grew up spending summers at the camp and it's by far one of the most beautiful and fun places in the world.

Wake up in the queen bed to the sound of waves lapping at the shoreline in the master bedroom. Then coffee at the kitchen table overlooking the lake. The second bedroom has twin beds and is private and quiet. The kids room is just that, with bunk beds, 2 single beds and their own tv, board games and fun, but trust me, they won't be doing anything other than sleeping in there after all there is to do during the day at the camp. Rain or shine there is always something to do. Mornings, get up early and cut up the glassy water before anyone else. Then a bike ride over rolling hills along the lake, or a hike up Pocomoonshine, paddle out to Schuyler island for a secluded picnic, swimming and tubing in the afternoon. For the less adventurous, shopping in Lake Placid, take the ferry over to Burlington for the day, or head up to Montreal, Canada's largest city. Don't forget your passport! Rainy days are nice too. Explore Ausable Chasm and raft down the Ausable river, Parc Safari and waterpark is just over the border an hour away. At the end of the day cool down on the screened in porch, or warm up in front of the large fireplace in the living room. Roast marshmellows over a bonfire on the beach, then lay back and count shooting stars. Life at the camp is great. Come and find out for yourself.

About Jonathan King

I spend my winters in Tahoe teaching skiing at Squaw Valley USA. I spend my summers at the camp teaching wakeboarding, waterskiing, stand up paddleboarding, leading bike rides and day hikes. I also know how to relax and enjoy the scenery and serenity of wherever I'm at.

Jonathan King purchased this house in 1939

Why Jonathan King chose Keeseville

My family has been on Lake Champlain for over 100 yrs. We've all traveled all over the world, but always end up back at the camp. This is not an overly developed part of the lake. It's still just many of the same families from the 30's.

What makes this house unique

Take advantage of me. I know the North Country and all it has to offer and want to share it with you. My motorboat is available. I love to take people out tubing or for a lake tour. I also teach wakeboarding and water skiing. I have a separate apartment on the property and can also remain invisible. This is your vacation. whatever works best for you.

Great cottage experience

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful views, quiet area (except for the trains rolling by), nice cottage layout for friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! Yes, the train can be noisy, but we all get used to it after a couple times by. That's how my camp's location was discovered. My Grandfather used the train in the 20's and knew this was a beautiful part of the lake. He was able to have the camp built in the 30's. He loved it here, and so do I.

Beautiful property but not private

  • 4 of 5

The home and property are beautiful with amazing views of the lake. There are so many ways to enjoy the lake - canoeing, swimming, beach bonfire, etc.

Jonathan is great host. He is always willing to help, recommend things to do and take you out waterskiing.

One thing to point out that I didn't think was clear from the vrbo page is that the owner lives on the first floor of the house. The property description says that he lives in an apartment on the property but doesn't specify where exactly. Like I said, he's a wonderful host. However, you can hear things through the floors and he can see what you're up to in the yard. This isn't a huge deal but it's worth pointing out to potential renters, depending on what their privacy preferences are.

Beautiful camp , great location and wonderful host!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a fantastic vacation at Jonathan's camp. He is a wonderful fun host and we would love to return. The property has been in his family for generations and has a timeless feel.We loved the pictures of his grandfather and father in the house, both SUNY Maritime grads. The porch was one of our favorite parts and there are lots of water toys including boats and paddleboards. There is a great fire pit on the beach. The camp is in a fantastic location with quick ride to the Ausable Chasm and Ausable Brewery. Jonathan was available to help with any questions and suggestions but we felt like we had plenty of privacy. Jonathan took us tubing and my son had a great time.

Perfect Setting

  • 4 of 5

The house was immaculate...The bathrooms recently updated which was awesome. The kitchen had what you needed...perhaps a few updated nonstick pans would be nice...The indoor fireplace made the one chilly night so cozy. Then the fire pit outside was perfect. There are a lot of stairs I think my husband said 43...from the landing to the lake..so bring what you need down and plan to stay there. The boat was a nice touch...too cold for swimming...but my kids jumped in to cool off one day...The drive way is awesome,, however if you go at night be careful because the way down is very awkward and steep. While it states that there is a washer/dryer...they are down stairs with the owner so if you have stuff save it so that you aren't running up and down the stairs or intruding on him, as that made it a little awkward. Usually we wash clothes or towels daily or even dry them after swimming...however we did not. A nice addition would be some type of line to hang towels or sweatshirts that are smokey to air out. The lake did not have many fish...my family fished all weekend nothing...the last day Johnathan referred them to a honey hole...however no luck..There is a canoe, with a motor...don't forget the paddles...incase the battery dies...all in all a really nice place...The owner lives downstairs and while you are separate, if you are looking for a completely private stay that isn't necessarily the case. Happy traveling.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. There are fish in Lake Champlain, just elusive this weekend. I am making improvements on the kitchen. It's a bit dated and getting a complete rehab this fall. Till then, I will put in some new pans. The washer/dryer are in my apartment. I am gone most mornings, so that is a good time to use them. We always hung our beach towels on the hooks on the side porch off the kitchen. Lakes are bowls, so there are steps down to the beach, but always worth the trip. Best swimming on the lake is in front of my camp! Thank you for your recommendations. I always strive for a 5 star experience for my guests.
