. A good example of a traditional Door County cottage, perfectly located across from the Fish Creek bathing beach with a wonderful view of the boats at anchor and the islands of Green Bay. This spacious house can comfortably sleep our limit of ten , so it is perfect for groups and large families. The great room is open and spacious and the front porch is big enough for all. The bedrooms have hardwood floors and a closet and are plainly furnished in cottage style. All are light and airy: four are fairly large, none is small and two have water views. The upstairs bath features a tub and the downstairs bath a modern shower stall.
Though you will find it hard to leave the porch with its wonderful view, you'll want to explore some of the peninsula's best restaurants and shops, only a short walk down the street, in the heart of the village. Go a half mile in the other direction and you'll be at the main entrance to Peninsula State Park featuring a variety of hiking trails, a bathing beach with boat rentals, seven miles of bike trails, bike rentals, an 18 hole golf course with views over Eagle Harbor, as well as miles of peaceful forest lanes perfect for viewing wildlife and spectacular vistas from the limestone cliffs.

A wonderful vacation home to make long-lasting memories!

Perfect spot

The house was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Fish Creek is much less crowded than the towns to the north and this is a perfect spot - walking distance from town and right across from the beach. Very close to Peninsula State Park.

Great location!

This is a large house in a great location in Fish Creek, WI. Just walk down the street to shops and great restaurants. Across the street from the beach and a great water view. Owner is very quick to respond to phone calls and texts.

Perfect family get-together

Location is great... walk to shops, beach across the street, cafe next door! Grandson runs cross country & made use of trails in Peninsula State Park only half mile away, while grandma enjoyed sitting in the front porch enjoying the view. Owner quick to respond with any questions & plenty of room for all. Definitely recommend!!

Fish Creek Stay

My friends and I had a great time! Only issue we had was we weren’t aware there wouldn’t be sheets, towels and hand towels so we had to buy our own in town.

Amanda, Right at the start of our site, under the introduction and description, there are two asterisks. The first comment calls attention to our No Pet policy and the second describes the need for guests to bring linens. To my knowledge no one else has come without linens. I’m so sorry that happened to you - a real inconvenience for sure. To be super sure no one else has this issue I will make a note to call the linen policy specifically to the guests’ attention before I even accept their rental request. P.S. Our cottage is too old to be plumbed for machines and our cleaners have only 5 hours between summer guests so no time for a laundromat. Hence this policy. Thank you for your review. (-: Karen

Comfortable for family and friends

We had 3 successive groups of people, so 4 - 10 in the house at various times. Great location. Although the house is old and shabby, it is very comfortable. Exactly as advertised.

Thanks, Barbara, for being our guest and thanks for the 5 stars. I just wanted to offer an objection to the term "shabby" which, according to Webster's dictionary, means: "thread bare - worn till no longer respectable." Louisvilla is indeed old, it's quite well known in the area for it's various historical connections. But the living areas are nice (the flooring is better than we've ever had in our homes!) as you can see from the photos. (-: Karen

Perfect Location

First time visitor to Door County. Property is located a very short walk to Peninsula State Park, which contains many beautiful hiking and biking trails. The enclosed porch overlooks a stunning view of water, boats, sunrises, sunsets! No airconditioning but the house stayed very cool amidst warm temps.

Family vacation!

Generally nice and comfortable, great location but upstairs bedrooms facing water were drafty and cold....one appeared not to have heat.....Plenty of cleaning supplies ! Owner answered all questions promptly! Would definitely stay there again......

Bev, Thank you for the kind review. You are right about the heat. We say in the Amenities section on this site that the new furnace only effectively heats the downstairs. (The old cottage could not be retrofitted when it was installed). Fortunately the weather at the end of September is usually mild. This year we had a record-setting cold spell. Going forward I will be sure to warn folks before they book about the unpredictable nature of the weather these days. I'm so sorry your upstairs bedrooms were cold. Karen

Great location

It is a beautiful old cottage in a GREAT location. We really enjoyed our stay. Easy walk into town. The interior of this gem of a cottage needs some tender loving care as the floors are showing a lot of age damage and walls need new paint. Better furniture that is consistent with an older rental home and supporting out of town guests is recommended. I felt like I was staying in an old dorm room with the provided furniture. Small investment s to upgrade furniture and property would make this a 5 star stay.

JOHN, Thank you for your review and sharing your thoughts.A large cottage holding up to 10 people takes a lot of abuse (not you, thanks!). You’d be surprised what furniture we have to replace each and every season. It’s hard and very expensive to get furniture delivered up there but we feel we replace subpar furniture in a timely way while keeping the rent ridiculously low. I am actually raising the rent for next season to help with this but most renters like the low rate. You got a large cottage holding 10 people in a primo location for $375 a night. We’ve chosen to keep our place available for families who might not be able to afford a posher place. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay overall. Please tell me what was misleading on my site. Friends get together in Door County

We had an awesome time in Door County. This property has an excellent location in Fish Creek. We could walk to go out to eat or go shopping. It had the feel of staying at Grandma's house. We loved it. Beds were very comfortable. We had a wonderful time. Thank you.

Unbeatable location and awesome porch!

Very cool old home with plenty of space in the heart of fish creek. Karen was extremely accomodating! My group spent most of our time enjoying the view from the front patio. We certainly will be back!

Old and tired. Needs work

I felt like I was staying in a garage sale. Furnishing were just junky, broken and dirty. I can’t believe that four appliances were plugged into one kitchen recepticle. Same in living room. Constantly afraid of overload.

We advertise a traditional Door County Cottage. The furniture is appropriate, not junky, broken and dirty. (We offer many photos to help renters see for themselves.) The price is super affordable and we have long-timers who have rented for forty years or so because they get the best location for a price they prefer. We could double the price and turn it into a modern condo/type but that is not our niche. As for the receptacles, we are constantly inspected and licensed and everything is safe and proper. We have NEVER had an overload or so much as a flipped breaker from the kitchen. (No where in the living room do even three appliances share a receptacle.) I regret these guests chose our place over the modern expensive place they would have preferred. Karen Campbell

Classic Home in Artsy Area

We had a wonderful stay at Louisvilla! It is a gorgeous, classic home in a prime location. There was ample room, games for the kids and the house reflected the genre it was from. Really loved the trim work! My only recommendations would be 1) to warn renters there are mostly 2-prong outlets in the house. If they need a 3 prong plug they need to bring an adapter. 2) Lugging sheets for all the beds was a bit cumbersome, but that is just because we planned to hit the beaches too. Loved the drying line out back. 3) Thank you for the glassware and plates but it all needed to be washed before use. Not sure if that was previous renters or cleaning crew. But, that said, Door County is a beautiful area and I would highly recommend staying here!!

I had a nice discussion with Alessia who explained that it was only two coffee cups that a guest found not properly washed. There was apparently no issue with bowls, plates, glasses, etc. This is the first time we have received a complaint of this nature. We appreciate the feedback and will work even harder to guarantee our guests a great stay! (-: Karen

Best Location!

We loved our stay. It was spacious, yard was great, loved the front porch and view. Couple of suggestions: I think there should be a disclaimer for people traveling with young children that the potential of lead based paint in the home is very high throughout with chipping/peeling inside and out. I think maybe consider a linen exchange with the cleaning crew as providing for 8 beds was a little cumbersome. We had a great time!

Michelle, We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Regarding the paint, just because some is peeling doesn't mean it is lead-based paint which has been out of use for almost 40 years. The house has been repainted inside and out countless times since then. Because the house is closed up and unheated during the frigid Fish Creek winters the interior paint takes a beating. Every spring we scrape and repaint as much as we can but don't have time to get to it all. Our children were in the house frequently growing up and our two-year old grand child was just there this season. There is no risk to children in the house but I'm sorry you might have worried about the paint. I wish you had emailed me about your concerns. Thanks again for choosing Louisvilla. (-: Karen

Great view & location but the cleanliness of the house poor. The floor was dirty in all rooms with food scraps & dirt. The bathrooms need a real good cleaning ceiling to floor.

There is certainly no excuse for our cottage not being clean. In over 40 years of renting Louisvilla this is the first such comment we have received. Door County and especially Fish Creek have been discovered by the world and the service sector has not been able to catch up yet. We have a wonderful cleaning crew but newer establishments are struggling to get help. I will talk to my folks. For the cottage to be this bad they must have been swamped and simply forgot to stop and clean our place due to issues and/or confusion with their schedule. My apologies to this party and my promise that our family doesn't work hard for weeks on upkeep and repair just to have it undermined by poor cleaning. We are proud of Louisvilla and have six parties who have returned every summer for over 30 years. I appreciate helpful fedback like this and will try to devise a reminder method that doesn't insult the professionalism of our crew but puts the satisfaction of our guests above all. beautiful old place in an awesome location

very spacious and nice place to stay. we had 5 adults and an almost 1year old. the bedrooms were roomy with beautiful views. the porch was perfect to play cards on during the baby's nap times. the home is in a great location - within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. providing our own linens (bedding and towels- bath and kitchen) made packing pretty bulky with packing the kid's extra needs (pack n play, toys, and stroller). Since there isn't a dishwasher and dishes are washed by hand, it was very helpful we had a bottle drying rack - I would recommend packing extra towels/drying mat/rack if you plan to have dishes. home doesn't have many outlets where we needed them, so packing a few short extension cords really helped. the beds and couches are very soft but did their jobs. we absolutely loved staying here and plan to stay here again in the future! I would recommend this place to others!!

We try to give our potential guests an accurate picture of what it is like to vacation at our cottage and your review will help us do this. Since Louisvilla is one of the few original historic cottages remaining in Fish Creek we have been careful to preserve its authenticity. We prioritize safety and code compliance of course. But we have resisted trying to rewire to put in more outlets or to replumb to allow a dishwasher. I'll try to emphasize your suggestions about folks bringing some short extension cords and extra dishtowels. We would love to have you stay with us again. (-: Karen

The perfect vacation home for 8 sisters.

This was the perfect vacation home for 8 sisters traveling to Door County. It was right on the main road in Fish Creek and within walking distance to anything we needed. With a coffee shop next door, fantastic restaurants and shopping just down the street in one direction, Peninsula State Park just a short drive in the other direction, and the beach right across the street, we couldn't have chosen a better location. The home itself was great. The front porch was perfect for relaxing, reading, napping, and enjoying that early morning cup of coffee. The bedrooms were all very spacious and bright, especially those with views of the beach. It got a little warm in Wisconsin the first night, but the attic fan upstairs kept the rooms cool and comfortable. The beds were all very comfortable. On the first floor the living area was large, open and spacious, with plenty of room for a large gathering to enjoy time together. The owner was pleasant and easy to work with. She even emailed me ahead of time with ideas for day trips to the lighthouses, wineries and sailing (all of which we took advantage of). The only drawback was lack of electric outlets in the bathrooms (We knew ahead of time that with 8 girls, two bathroom and only one shower we would need to bring extra extension cords to do hair and makeup in our bedrooms), and the fact that we "blew a fuse" when more than two people used a blow dryer at the same time. Both things were easily remedied, but it's something that's nice to know ahead of time. The photos posted on the VBRO/Home Away website of this home are just what you will see when you arrive. The home was clean and the lawn mowed. Highlights of the trip were the lighthouses in Peninsula State Park and on Cana Island, an early morning sail on the Edith M. Becker schooner out of Sister Bay, and the Peninsula Players Theater right in Fish Creek. We loved the outside fire pit and sunset over Green Bay and laughed our heads off watching Alfred Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps". I would recommend this home, Fish Creek and Door County Wisconsin in general to anyone seeking a vacation that can be both relaxing and exciting.
