Well located, well designed, well decorated, and well maintained
This is a really fine cabin, remote enough to be private and close enough to local features to support any activity. The art and furniture is very well suited--as one would pick for their home. No half-way measures or shortcuts. It was fun to watch the tide come in during the day and see the reflection of the moonlight on the water at night. We enjoyed nearby Bar Harbor and Acadia, and enjoyed leaving that congested area to return to our quiet cabin. We particularly liked the leisurely drive around Schoodic Peninsula just down the road and found a great upscale restaurant in Winter Haven. We hope we can come back to the area someday and will do our best to stay here again.
Couldn’t have been better
Five stars all the way!! Dianne and Mark were great folks to rent from and provided a world of useful local information. One week wasn’t long enough. We hope to come back soon.
Beautiful, Well-Appointed Home in the Woods
This home is beautifully decorated, with a well equipped kitchen. Each room has individual thermostats and comfy towels in the bathroom and linens in the bedrooms. As other reviewers have said, it is immaculate and the hosts were so helpful. It is off the beaten path and thankfully the Shell station on the corner is a helpful landmark finding the turnoff in the dark onto the gravel road. The ever changing view of the tidal flats from the deck was interesting and the view of the nighttime sky was amazing. Not many grocery stores so stock up in Ellsworth and near the end of the season restaurants seem to close earlier. About an hour or so from Acadia and Bar Harbor. A quiet and peaceful respite to enjoy the fall colors. Wifi was nice to have. Would stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay. The cottage had all the things necessary for a comfortable stay. From the kitchen having all matching dinner and cook ware to the bed and bathrooms having nice towels and linens, everything was great! Also, there is a nice selection of books and older movies (many forgotten classics) to watch in the evening. I do have to say that there was some interesting art work---many conversations surrounded them! The area is great! Spent many hours on the Schoodic part of Acadia. Less crowds, so much nicer without having to deal with so many people!
Great View-Wonderful House
Words can not explain how Beautiful the view and how nice the house is. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you need, including lots and lots spices and tea's. Also the owners, Mark and Di are wonderful to work with. Giving us lots of idea's for day trips ect....loved them all!!!
Thank you again for sharing your home with us!
Beautiful home. Super clean with quality furnishings.
The home is even much nicer than it appears on-line. It is very clean with first rate furnishings. The kitchen is very complete, and everything works well. We really enjoyed
the location. Previously we have stayed on Mount Desert Island but we enjoyed this location actually better. The Schooldic Peninsula part of the park is beautiful with plenty of activities. Winter harbor is a nice town, less frantic than Bar Harbor. We enjoyed swimming in Jones Pond, it is actually a beautiful large lake close to the house.
Surchin’s End coastal retreat is in the town of Gouldsboro in Downeast Maine, just off the Schoodic Scenic Byway. Conveniently located 45 minutes from Bar Harbor, 15 minutes to the entrance of the Schoodic area of Acadia National Park, and 40 minutes from Blue Hill, Surchin’s End offers the vacationer easy access to two uniquely different, but equally beautiful, parts of Acadia National Park. This area provides abundant opportunities for biking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, sightseeing, eagle watching, wildlife and nature exploring, or just relaxing and enjoying the magnificence of the Maine coast.
Other Activities: kayaking, hiking, bird watching
