Please enjoy our home, your home for your visit to New Orleans. We are really very excited to share with you and hope you have a memorable experience.
The Space: Ma Maison Marigny. Located in Faubourg Marigny, a bohemian paradise near the French Quarter. This traditional "shotgun double" is the perfect place to experience what it's like to live in an authentic N'awlins neighborhood. For those not familiar with the term, "a shotgun" is a home where one room leads directly into another. Guests will occupy one side of the "double", or duplex.
Ma Maison is fully furnished and equipped...a real home away from home. There is a living room, three bedrooms, and an eat-in kitchen, and bath. There is also a lovely back yard, just the right setting for that morning cup of coffee. The home has central air/heat, dishwasher, wi-fi, DVD disk player, Chromecast, and television with local channels. There is on street parking, and a full security system.
You will have complete access to the right side of the “double" from front sidewalk to back yard.
Other fun facts: our block and our house were the background to a scene in season 3 of the popular tv show American Horror Story. Beonce's sister Solange got married in the Marigny Opera House a few blocks away. Beonce and Jay-Z are known to hang out at the Hi-Ho Lounge, a neighborhood institution, three blocks away on St. Claude Ave. Countless coffee shops, little restaurants, traditional boutiques & craft shops, and tiny antique stores await your discovery around almost every corner. Two blocks away, The Franklin is one of the newest restaurant hotspots in the city, reservations are recommended. Anna's down the street is the chill, quirky place where chef-made pop-ups are available most nights, after your game of pool and before the DJ's set. Head to St. Claude ave and experience nightlife that's a little off the beaten path. Catch a burlesque show, a rock band, or have fun at the Emporium arcade.
Known as "the locals' Bourbon Street", getting to nearby Frenchmen street is a short walk where you find real New Orleans jazz played live at the venerable ol' stand-by's like Snug Harbor, Spotted Cat, and Apple Barrel, and other hotspots like Three Muses, d.b.a, Blue Nile, and The Maison!. There is shopping nearby, the new Crescent Park on the Mississippi, the historic Old Mint, the wonderful old Creole homes and mansions of Esplanade Street, and then also the French Market, Decatur Street shopping and people-watching, Jackson Square and the Vieux Carre (French Quarter)! From Ma Maison, you can rent extra bikes nearby or have a wonderful 15-minute stroll to the "Quarter", or just get uber rides. This is the place you'll be reminiscing about later, and telling your kids all about - when they're a little older! Laissez les bon temps roulez!
Guest Access: Front and back door of your side of the shotgun double, whole backyard, on-street parking.
The Neighborhood: Marigny is a bohemian district with beautiful architecture in a walkable neighborhood. It has its own vibrant nightlife, boutiques, and craft outlets, countless fun restaurants, funky coffee shops. There's great local history of this neighborhood, this street, this house. Just ask us! Please don’t miss out on the nightlife of Frenchmen St, a short walk away. And we don’t work for them, but just head to the gem we love that is Who Dat Cafe and tell ‘em Tom & James sent ya! The home is in a quiet location, it's a quick car ride or a nice walk to the quarter and proximity to Frenchmen street is really great. The home was clean and comfortable. We had a great stay

So glad that you got to explore so much of what makes our neighborhood and city so special!
This shotgun cottage was beautifully decorated and well equipped. Tom and James were quick to respond to all questions. The location was perfect. You can easily walk to Frenchmen or Bourbon St. We felt very safe there. In fact, I sat outside on the front stoop and read my book while I waited for my son to get ready.
The beds were so comfortable that you almost felt like you were sleeping in your bed at home. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Nola.

Wonderful home away from home...
This house was perfect for our little family. Plenty of room, comfy beds, and a full kitchen. It was within walking distance of everything we wanted to do during our trip, if you count using the street cars to get around for longer distances. There were a couple grocery options close by which helped for stocking the kitchen for those times when we wanted to eat in. We will definitely keep this place on the top of our list of places to stay in NOLA.

Pre-Mardi Gras Couples Getaway
Cute house--as you first walk in the door, you step into the living room, then the 1st queen bedroom, then the single twin, then the 2nd queen with a closet, then the kitchen, bathroom, and back door.
When you go out to Franklin St, you can almost see the water. The house was about 15-20 min walk to the French Market/Burbon St and about 10 min to Frenchman St. From Burbon, our cab ride was $8 at the end of one night.
Tom and his wife who own the place are very quick to respond and answer any questions or concerns. The house felt relatively safe in the neighborhood and they had an alarm pad that was easy to use. All the decor is for sale, presumably from local merchants which was neat. Going into the home we knew it was a shotgun so if you're wanting super privacy this might not be the place unless you are in the first bedroom. Our only issue was the plumbing in NOLA can be spotty and the toilet had some problems, but the owners said they would get on that ASAP. We would definitely come back, as the house was quite comfy and located in a relatively good location. Parking on the street was not a problem-- out car was never more than 50ft away from the house. An added bonus is that it is also on the 'tit Rex & Chewbacchus parade route, which we had no clue. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative and want to avoid a commercial hotel, this is your place to stay.

About the host
Hosted by James Cristina
This is our first house, which we remodeled ourselves in 2005, then again in 2014. But this time we had help picking out furniture and artwork! I think our designer Miss Dionne did a fabulous job, and I think you will too!
Why they chose this property
In the beating heart of Marigny/Bywater, plus free bikes to use! Comfortable and secure, we are on a quiet block in a nice neighborhood that still has the fun and the edge we love about New Orleans. Close to the coolest spots in the city, and you can also reach the Quarter by foot in 15 minutes, or even faster on one of our bikes.
What makes this property unique
The Marigny/Bywater neighborhoods are the coolest places in New Orleans that you've probably never heard of. Rent a bike from several nearby rental spots, you can fully spend two or three days exploring this neighborhood, even before exploring the French Quarter and Uptown. All the creature comforts will be waiting for you when you come back to your temporary new home, where you can rest comfortably in our new beds and even cook a few meals while you're not out exploring traditional or eclectic dining spots in our neighborhood. Or enjoy the night air while sitting out on the front stoop, and easily strike up a conversation with one of our friendly neighbors. One thing we like to do in New Orleans is talk, and we like to talk to everybody.
