We loved our stay at Fern Cottage! The hosts met us and were super nice. We really enjoyed chatting with them. The studio is spotless, beautiful, comfortable, and has everything you need - even slippers. We loved hearing the frogs at night, and the drive to Volcanoes National Park was only about 10 minutes. We would definitely stay there again (or move in permanently ;) ).

A perfect place to stay in volcano village

We enjoyed our stay so much. It is a lovely and cozy cottage with everything you need during your stay. It's definitely one of our top picks for this type of accommodation. Elaine and Carter are very friendly and have so much information on the local area, they had prepared everything prior to your arrival and made our stay so enjoyable.

Fern Cottage was Awesome!

This was the best place to stay! The apartment was so clean and updated. It had everything you could need. The manager was very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this cottage. I wish I could live there!

We had a wonderful and memorable stay. Elaine and Carter were wonderful to meet, and were great to communicate with beforehand. The location is really a special spot, we loved hearing the tree frogs at night, and it was so easy to get into Volcano village to explore the market and to go the to national park for the day. Thank you for having us and for providing such a wonderful place.

Perfect respite for HI Volcanoes National Park

The hosts were friendly and incredibly helpful, but not intrusive and respectful of our space. Perfect location for my husband and I to explore the park (~5 minutes away) and Hilo. The location is ideal to access Volcanoes National Park and great dining options when we wanted to eat out. We woke to sunshine and bird song each day, and the pleasant peep of insects at night. Comfortable beds, up to date kitchen and bath. Incredible value!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful place

We loved our stay at Fern Cottage! It was very clean, stocked with everything you might need, and in a perfect location for accessing Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The hosts were helpful, kind, and we enjoyed getting to meet them. We loved the lush setting and drinking coffee on the lanai in the mornings surrounded by beautiful plant life. We also appreciated having the heater since it got chilly at night! The cottage is located a few minutes driving distance from Volcano Village, where there are few shops and restaurants, but be warned that they seemed to have kind of random hours/closures and the grocery selection was small and very expensive, so if you stay for a while you're better off getting groceries in a bigger town before you head to Volcano! We'd definitely return to this great home!

Nature retreat

The cozy and very clean cottage was the perfect place to unwind from our family walks through the National Park. Our hosts were kind and attentive but never imposing. The WiFi allowed us to use streaming entertainment in our devices but we welcomed the sounds of rain through the forest over hot tea (stocked in the cottage) and conversation. Check in was a breeze and we had no issues at all through the entire stay. When we needed a sewing kit, the cottage hosts were gracious and accommodating to come right over with one! We’ll be back on our next visit to Volcano.

Lovely cottage exactly as pictured in a tropical setting. Gated and right off the main road so no driving in the dark in the jungle. Close to VNP. Heater available for those chilly nights. Welcoming water in refrigerator, coffee pods and menus of the local restaurants to view. We stayed 5 nights and never ate at the same place. Extra blankets, towels and plenty of kitchen housewares. We cooked in one evening. The hosts live next door and were friendly and helpful.

Perfect…except no heat.

Clean and exactly as pictured, except on arrival we found that the heater was not functioning and the backup heat source was a small space heater. It was not enough for the square footage and our infant, as we had very cold weather during our stay. The space heater was a hazard for a crawling child. We were prepared for cool rainy weather outdoors with long pats, sweaters, rain gear, etc. It’s not as if we only had shorts & tank tops. If I had known the heater was broken I would have booked elsewhere. It seemed like the heater had been broken for a while, and I was annoyed that we weren’t informed.

This was a wonderful spot for exploring Volcano NP. It is beautiful and relaxing, and perfect for a couple. The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

It was a perfect location for all our activities. Check-in with Elaine & Carl was quick easy. The place had all the necessities we needed for our stay. This was the cleanest property I have ever stayed in. The cottage was well equipped with everything you need, especially in the kitchen. They even had some extra touches like coffee pods and water bottles which was much appreciated. It was only a 5 min drive to Volcano Village and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We would stay here again!

Fabulous Cottage!

This cottage was a great find for my husband and I. Perfect size with a kitchen. Very close to the Volcano Park (6 miles). We went into the park at 5 AM to see the active volcano. Then went back at 8 AM and were able to tour the park before it got busy. The owners Elaine & Carter recommended the early park trip & even provided flashlights. They also recommended local restaurants, which were very good! Close enough to Hilo and other small towns for touring. Great communication with the owners. We would very highly recommend this place and would stay again if we're ever back in the area.

Beautiful Cottage and Awesome Hospitality

My family and I stayed back in September. The perfect place to stay on the Volcano area of the Island. Only an 8-minute drive. Elaine and Carter are awesome and very hospitable hosts. Elaine checked in with us prior to our arrival and was very communicative. They waited and welcomed us when we arrived. The cottage itself is cozy and has its own garage entrance. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a place to stay in Volcano. Elaine has many years of experience working in the hospitality industry.
