About Janet Eby
Judy and Seth Burgess love the Big Bend. Seth is originally from Rhode Island and Judy is a native Texan. Seth is a retired from Equimax, USA, Inc., a company he started in 1986 to get jobs and horse people together all across the USA. Judy is an ordained Episcopal Priest. We currently care for three dogs, four horses and a donkey.
Why Janet Eby chose Terlingua
We lived in this location for 15 years until moving to the Ruidoso, New Mexico area when Judy was called to a new church. We chose this area because Judy wanted to get back to living in Texas and Seth wanted to live in the mountains. You won't find a wilder more remote place in Texas. The Big Bend area is truly the ultimate getaway spot.
What makes this House unique
Judy always said she wanted 'land lots of land.' On 217 acres, you can ride your horse, hike, and explore the wonders the desert fauna and flora without evening leaving the property. During your stay, you may see mule deer, aoudad sheep, coyotes, mountain lions (pretty rare), and of course all sorts of birds and small animals.

A beautiful place; scenery phenomenal; housing exceptional!
We have stayed at this VRBO property before; it is fantastic in every way. We will always stay there when we return to the Big Bend.
It was well set up for our group of 9 people. We were impressed with the surrounding property.
The house was comfortable and in a great location for seeing the many sights in the area. The rooms were comfortable and the house was clean when we arrived. The directions for checking in and out were clear and helpful. The kitchen made it possible for us to cook all our meals and not have to eat out while we were there.
Just an amazing get away
One does not have to travel to the Big Bend National or Big Bend Ranch State Park for great hiking. The Laughing Horse Retreat fills the bill. Very, very comfortable and always clean and well kept. Great value!
Perfect for the BBNP Experience
We couldn’t have been happier at Laughing Horse. It’s a close as you can get without staying in the park. Perfect number of bedrooms for a family of four needing 3 rooms. Plenty of space. The kitchen had everything we needed and more (it’s always great when there are leftover condiments and spices). We used the grill and all the pots and pans. We have recommended this place to others and will continue to do so. Thank you.
great place to stay
We've stayed here and likely will again. It's clean and comfortable, not too far out of the park and is set in beautiful spot with good views.
We used all of the beds and the outdoor bunkhouse and comfortably slept 9. The house is close to Terlingua where we visited both Big Bend Ranch and the national park. Wifi works well. Cell phone service was spotty, but we were happy not to have it! We hope to be back again!
