About Erik

After spending vacations every year in Tuscany - we just love this region - we've decided to acquire this house for it to become our family's vacation house and sufficiently large so that (many) friends can stay with us during our vacation.

When we are not using the house ourselves, we rent it out to guests.

Erik purchased this farmhouse in 2010

Why Erik chose Siena Province

We looked for a house which would be sufficiently large to host family and friends in a comfortable way. On top of that, this house has a particular charm which is hard to describe in words, but which all travelers feel. Something eternal.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I highlight certain points below:

1. Sleeping comfort: Unlike in so many rental places, we didn't want our guests to sleep in convertible couches. So there are 16 sleeping places in beds for 16 guests. These beds are spread over 6 beautiful bedrooms, which in turn are well spread over the house (with old thick walls) so that everyone had their privacy. There are also 2 baby cots available.

2. Table pleasure: We love to cook and we've made sure that the kitchen is pleasant for cooks and for those keeping them company. The house is very well equipped with tableware and kitchenware (including the champagne glasses for celebrations or an aperitivo on the terrace), for meals for up to 30 people. Everyone enjoys the truly unique "loggia", which is some sort of porch. It's a covered yet open terrace, where we have placed a beautiful long wooden table which can host up to 20 people. In the summer, without exception, this place becomes the center of the social life in the house.

3. Another distinctive element of the house is the very long pool (16 meters) but not deep...so the water heats up more rapidly, and it's less dangerous. It's perfect both for those who want to swim their lanes in the morning (such as me) and for the children during the day. The pool can be lit at night.

4. Last but not least, the house has an exceptional situation, in a very quiet and beautiful valley, far away from neighbors, yet at only 10 minutes driving of the center of the renowned village of Castellina in Chianti. The village is full of charm and hosts all restaurants, grocery shops, wineries, which you may look for. Since this year, there is also a mountain bike rental shop. Adding up to its exceptional location of the house is the very central location of the village itself, right in between Firenze, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo

Outstanding, superlative

  • 5 of 5

Incredible property. My wife and I took our two kids, my mother and two friends to Gabbiunozzo for two weeks. We occupied five bedrooms between us and got lost in the house - it is huge, the kids loved exploring and we could come together and do our own things so easily. The pool is fantastic - 16m long, at its very best late in the day when you could watch the long shadows appear. The grounds really make the place - tranquility, beauty and nature in abundance. Wild boars and deer made guest appearances. Claudio (pool man) and Chiara (housekeeper) looked after us magnificently. Between our English, their Italian and google translate the simple things we needed help with were soon sorted. All write ups about this property are spot on - they influenced our decision to stay there and I'm happy to confirm to others it surpassed our expectations. Erik, the owner, was in routine email contact with advice on things to do and to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Location is excellent - nice and quiete yet a ten minute drive to the charming village of Castellina and much more within thirty minutes' drive.

We've been renting summer properties for many years now and this is our firm favourite - we will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: Dear Robert, Thank you so much for your feedback! It encourages us to continue to improve Gabbianuzzo. It seems that our vacation home now also feels "home" to you, and I wanted to tell you that nothing makes us more happy than to share the experience. Chiara also told us how much she enjoyed your family. We definitely hope to see you again in the future . Kind regards. Erik

Gabbianuzzo is really the most beautiful property I have ever stayed at.

  • 5 of 5

Driving up to Gabbianuzzo for the first time was one of those "pinch yourself" moments. Down a secluded dirty road, you make a final turn and find yourself at you're own little piece of Heaven. You'll fall in love before you even go inside because the views of the vineyards and valley are breath taking.

You will wake up to those views every morning with a coffee on the back patio. Kitchen and dining area are excellent and well-equipped.

Bedrooms are nice, and there are lots of bathrooms. It really feels like everyone can have their own space.

My favorite place was the pool, which is even more beautiful than the photos.

Do yourself a favor and book this villa. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful home and breathtaking setting

  • 5 of 5

Exploring Chianti from this off the beaten path home was really an adventure. The home was close enough to Castellina that we were in town often for groceries and to dine and shop, but far enough to be secluded. Driving up and down the driveway to get to the house was pretty funny as each family had different experiences being successful getting up and down the hills depending upon their rental car ability. We loved the pool and sitting quietly on the back deck off the dining room in the morning and evenings at sunset and to stargaze. We followed a lot of the advice in the book provided by Erik as to favorite towns, and stayed mostly in the Chianti area and thus really got to know the small towns. Volpaia was a favorite town with our best meal of the trip at Ristorante La Bottega.

We were a group of 16; two families of 5, a family of 4 and a couple. We all had plenty of space in this spacious home. Erik was very available and helpful with any issues that came up.

We all enjoyed the authentic experience that this house provided with the beauty of the home and the nature surrounding us. It will be forever a wonderful memory for all of us.

Celebration at Gabbianuzzo

  • 5 of 5

For two weeks in May 2016, our family had the vacation celebration of our lifetime at Gabbianuzzo. We could not have been happier with both the beautiful home and the perfect setting. It effortlessly accommodated two different groups of 13 individuals and could have easily had room for more. I must admit when I first read the reviews for this venue I thought they sounded too good to be true. but they were not and they provide lots of good information.

The beautiful villa is a history -filled restored farm house that exudes the feel of rural italy. The bedrooms, baths and living areas are very spacious, comfortable and charming.

You will certainly enjoy the restaurants of the area but if you love to cook you will be thrilled with the kitchen. It is so spacious and well equipped. It is easy to cook for a large group. Gathering for meals works well in the nearby dining room with its incredible view and adjoining terrace. Or, when weather permits, there are two outdoor dining areas. The grounds and views are breathtaking and the pool was outstanding!!

Gabbianuzzo is so convenient for day trips. We thoroughly enjoyed visitng the hill towns and villages surrounding our base town of Castellina in Chianti. As well, Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano and Siena are closeby.

And, if we ever had a question, Erik, the owner, and Claudio and his wife were always helpful and friendly.

Gabbianuzzo allowed us to gather as family and friends in Italy and we have so many wonderful memories of our happy days there.

Spacious Villa

  • 5 of 5

I rented Villa Gabbianuzzo for 2 weeks June of 2015 to celebrate my Birthday with my entire family, brothers, sister, parents, cousins etc. There was plenty of room for 15 of us and we had an excellent time and enjoyed the Villa and grounds immensely! I had never used VRBO before and have to admit, was very reluctant. I did not want my entire family booking flights and either the Villa did not meet expectations or just not did not exist. Erik quickly put my mind at ease answering all my questions, concerns and even jumped on an international call with me. When we arrived, we were extremely impressed with the Villa, location and overall space.

The Villa is in an excellent location in the rolling hills of Chianti surrounded by many trees, vineyards with no other Villas in sight. Waking up in the mornings was the best part of the day, brewing a fresh cup of coffee and sitting out on the veranda just taking in the beautiful scenery and relaxing. Most mornings we could even see wild boars and deer grazing in the field a mile across the valley. After a morning Cup of Joe, or two, I would walk up to the Hotel/Spa like pool and swim laps with my brother to start my day before going sightseeing. It was such a great way to unwind and relax.

The two main things I enjoyed about the Villa the most was the size and space of all the rooms and the location in Chianti. I consider Chianti one of the best places to visit in Tuscany as there are so many smaller villages nearby within a short driving distance and and an abundance of Wineries and Olive Oil Ranches for tastings and purchase of local wines and Olive Oil.

The small town of Castellina is nearby and is a great place to stroll into to pick up some goods for the Villa or to have lunch or dinner. Every few days I would go into the town early in the morning and pick up local fresh baked breads for my family to enjoy when they woke up.

During our stay we had some heavy rains and the roof Wi-Fi antenna was damaged. Erik quickly had a technician out to the Villa and had it fixed right away. Overall, we had a great stay and I highly recommend this Villa and can't wait to go back again!

Owner's Response: Richard, Your description of the house and Castellina is exactly how we feel it ! That's why we love to stay here whenever we can: everything is so close, the renaissance, the wine, the scenery, the village, that's what makes the magic of the region. And yes, we want our guests to breath in the house so thank you to have enjoyed it ;) Yours sincerely, Erik

Wow Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot describe how amazing this house was, I wish we were still there. Erik you have a very special place and you have managed to keep that Tuscan charm. The space in the house suited our large group perfectly, we enjoyed many meals round the long table in the loggia and have lovely memories of everyone singing and enjoying themselves, Many meals were cooked in your wonderful kitchen and many bottles of wine drank. We also tried the italian take away that you recommended, we had difficulty explaining our order, but the local policeman and the shop keeper next door helped us explain. The scenery from Gabbianuzo is breathtaking with the added bonus of deers, wild boars and foxes. We also managed to drag ourselves away from this lovely house to visit Sienna and San Gimigano, beautiful places.

Thank you for letting us share you house, we loved Italy and we will be back!!

(Can you tell us what the square iron item is in the upstairs living room, is it an old fashioned radiator??)
