Two Master Bedrooms, Infinity Edge Pool, Jungle Setting, Close to town, sleeps 9
Located in the beautiful gated community of Samara Reefs, Villa Mirador offers luxurious accommodations, a super-private jungle setting, an infinity edge swimming pool, and a great location - all within walking distance to town and the beach. The minute you arrive at the house, you are met with a sense of luxury and spaciousness - then you are drawn into the HUGE stunning huge ocean view. The huge glass windows and doors make the most of the gorgeous view. You get a spectacular, panoramic view of Samara Beach, then, in the center of the bay, the beautiful island of Isla Chora: the centerpiece of Playa Samara. Surrounding the house are mature, green jungle canopies, beautiful trees that feel close enough to touch.
At your doorstep is this incredibly beautiful jungle: home to 20 varieties of birds, families of howler monkeys, lemon trees, starfruit trees, and gorgeous tropical gardens.
Inside Villa Mirador are gorgeous architectural features: vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, natural rock and hardwood flooring, carved exotic hardwood doors, a large gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a wine-fridge, a butler's pantry, a walk-in air-conditioned pantry for food storage, a warming drawer on the oven - every amenity you could wish for. Out every window are stunning panoramic ocean or jungle views. Set in a beautiful tropical garden is your very own, very private infinity edge swimming pool, outdoor shower, lounge chairs, sundeck - perfect for relaxing.
The house can accommodate 9 easily - there is a large living room, indoor dining room, as well as a huge upper outdoor deck with outdoor dining tables. There is a beautiful barbecue/outdoor kitchen area and two outdoor showers. There are 4 bedrooms: two have king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms. The other 2 bedrooms have 3 beds and a queen size bed - with room for 9, the house is ideal for a large family, 2 families, or 3 couples.
Situated 125 feet above sea level, Villa Mirador is an easy 12 minute walk to wonderful, sandy, Playa Samara and only 7 minutes more to the hub of Samara - Restaurante Locanda, Gusto on the Beach, Lo Que Hay, the Samara Info Center, and Super-Samara, the main grocery store. By car, the trip to the town-center is faster - 5 minutes. To Playa Carrillo, it is an 8 minute drive. Villa Mirador is, in every way, a perfect “getaway”. Located at the very end of the driveway in Samara Reefs, you will see no other cars, and no other people (other than the caretakers and neighbours in Samara Reefs) … just complete privacy and tranquility.
At Villa Mirador, what you WILL hear is the soothing sound of ocean surf, the sounds of various songbirds, and, from time to time, the hooting of several families of monkeys (Mantled Howler Monkeys) - many which are visible from your lounge chair on your deck or from their favourite trees, just outside the front door. “Mirador” means viewpoint or a look-out point. From this house, there are look-out points in all directions.
Throughout the Samara Reefs property and lined along the interlocking brick driveway are many beautiful, well-maintained gardens featuring a stunning variety of beautiful and deliciously-scented flowers and shrubs: red ginger plants, Gardenia, Bougainvillea, the very exotic Bird-of-Paradise flower, and Frangipani, even lemon-trees and a starfruit tree nearby. What sets Villa Mirador apart from the other 6 Samara Reefs houses is its very private location and proximity to the canopy. Because it is situated a bit lower on the hillside, you are eye-to-eye with the beautiful green mature jungle canopy native to this dry tropical rainforest. The huge trees, which you can practically touch from the kitchen sundeck, add to the feeling of serenity and beauty. This piece of preserved jungle canopy, which stretches down hundreds of yards towards Samara beach, is something you would only expect to find off "the beaten path".
Villa Mirador was designed in 2007 by one of Costa Rica's top architects, Karin Nagel, who is a Lecturer at the International Center for Sustainable Development in San José, Costa Rica and who was trained as an architect at the University of London. This house, in every way, makes the most of this gorgeous natural setting. Everything about its design is well-thought-out and there is great flow from room to room. All 4 bedrooms are very large, have spectacular ocean views, and excellent bathrooms. The gourmet kitchen is fully outfitted, with ultra-modern granite countertops, European cabinets, a sit-up bar/wet bar for four, a butler's kitchen, wine fridge.... it is, without question, THE entertainment hub.
As a guest of Villa Mirador, we welcome you to enjoy the centerpiece of Samara Reefs – the stunning waterfall feature located next to Casa Colibri (vrbo 383817). Every day the waterfountain comes on for an hour each morning. Ask our caretaker, Daniel, exactly what time the fountain comes on. Water flows down through a series of pools carved into a rocky riverbed called “Rio Corto”, then flows over a wall, down into a shallow jungle pool below. Inspired by the waterfall and Hotspring pools at Tabacon Resort in Lake Arenal, this setting is just spectacular. And sitting UNDER the waterfall is spectacular because for a brisk, refreshing shoulder massage, there is absolutely nothing like it. Behind the waterfall is a cool shaded grotto with a concrete built-in bench. This provides a hidden spot to sit and enjoy the wonderful vista of Isla Chora. This is definitely an interesting spot to seek out during the hotter hours of the day. There are many many activities available in Samara, something different to keep you busy and entertained every day: surfing lessons, boogie-boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, renting ATVs, bicycles, go for a guided nature hike with Samara Trails, go zip-lining with the wonderful guides from WingNuts Canopy Tours, all highly rated. Ask Brenda and Christopher at the Samara Info Center for their recommendations and check out their website.
At Villa Mirador you’ll find everything you might need: Wi-Fi (no code required), a large TV, even beach chairs that you are welcome to take to the beach with you. When you arrive at Samara Reefs gated entrance, you will be greeted by our Samara Reefs Administrator, Daniel Quiros. He will show you how everything works in the house: the telephone, the alarm system, the room safe, the pool controls, etc. If you need any assistance with anything to do with the house, the pool, or the remote-controlled security gate, he will be able to help you.
Villa Mirador is an easy 10-12 minute walk to the beach OR a 5-minute drive to town. Because of its convenient location, having a car is optional. A taxi ride from central Samara to your doorstep is just $5. Pick up some steaks and cook them at home in this barbecue-dream-location, hire our special in-house chef and enjoy delicious food served on Villa Mirador’s outside dining room, or eat in town from a choice of wonderful and varied restaurants in Samara and Carrillo. The hardest decision you might have all day is whether to have Italian food at Gusto Beach, mouth-watering Argentinian outdoor grilled entrees from the ultra-romantic El Lagarto, seafood pasta from the #1 local favourite, Casa Esmeralda, wood-grilled steak at El Colibri Steak House, Mexican, French, Mediterranean, sushi, French dining at the highly rated Samara Pacific Lodge, burgers at beach-front Vela Latina, traditional whole fried fish at beach-front El Ancla, or the wonderfully healthy creations at LuvBurger.
In the town center you will find several very good grocery stores, a fresh and very well-stocked produce store called Dona Lechuga, 2 ATMs, the very helpful people at Samara Info Center, several bakeries, a few excellent beach-front surf schools, a scuba dive shop, great souvenir and clothing boutiques, unique jewelry stores, a large and very popular organic grocery store/café/Farmer’s Market, 2 pharmacies, a Medical center, two Dentists, a Fitness center, Spa, Massage, etc.

About Mary-Ellen Meyers, Vancouver, Canada
Our group of Canadian partners began building the 7 Samara Reefs beach houses in 2006 . Our partners - who live mostly in Vancouver and Toronto - love the warmth of Samara and its tropical sunshine over the cold and rainy Canadian winters. When we ourselves cannot be at Samara Reefs, we very much enjoy sharing our piece of paradise with others.
Mary-Ellen Meyers, Vancouver, Canada purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Mary-Ellen Meyers, Vancouver, Canada chose Sámara
We chose to build on this property because it was within walking distance to town, had a gorgeous panoramic ocean view, and it was up in the hillside where we could overlook gorgeous jungle canopies below. Each day we watch troops of monkeys in the trees. From this location, we never see or hear a car! The property has incredibly beautiful HUGE trees. When you stand on the sundeck, it feels like you can reach out and touch the trees - you're that close! Samara is one of the most beautiful, safest and cleanest, beaches in Costa Rica. The horseshoe-shaped bay and its protective reefs ensure safe swimming with no dangerous undertow. The waves are large enough for beginner and intermediate surfers and perfect for boogie-boarding. In terms of cleanliness, both Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo have achieved and maintained the highest rating for cleanliness and sanitation standards. The town of Samara is very family-friendly and relaxed - people call it "funky and friendly" and say it has "a great vibe". It has a variety of choices in terms of restaurants, grocery stores, a large list of activities, as well as every amenity you could want. But there are NO all-inclusive hotels, no chain hotels, no vendors selling trinkets, and no gimmicks. Just great people, a great environment, a great climate, lots to do, and a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Home to an International Language School, an accredited Massage School, many local Costa Ricans, many expat Europeans and Americans, as well as many surfers and outdoor-lovers, the population is diverse and super-interesting.
What makes this Villa unique
Samara Reefs is a secure gated community with a full-time on-site Administrator and Housekeeper (Daniel and Anna) who are long-time, trusted employees. We also have a full-time gardener, Ramone. Unique features include a walk-in air-conditioned pantry - perfect for storing all your food supplies, beer and wine. Villa Mirador is the perfect house if you are looking for a private jungle setting, within walking distance to a great beach, in a secure location, close to grocery stores, banks, restaurants, activities, and Samara - a friendly and relaxed funky town.

Great Place to stay in Samara
We were very impressed with the location. cleanliness, and the amazing view we had. We were a group of 2 families and had plenty of room between us. Mary-Ellen was very helpful with information about the home, Samara and things to do. Would recommend Villa Mirador to anyone going to Costa Rica. Definitely hope to go back soon!
The only problem was we had to come home
Villa Mirador was the perfect vacation spot for our group of 7 adults. For some this was the first experience of villa rental beyond an all-inclusive resort and received rave reviews – For others, this was one of several vacation villa rentals and was, by far, one of the best. It offers total privacy, outstanding ocean & jungle views and interaction with nature on an up close and personal experience – from the howler monkeys that greeted us day one to the numerous birds and iguanas that became part of daily life
The large, covered patio shaded loungers and saltwater pool welcomed us home after a day at the beach or as the perfect spot to hang out for those hot Samara afternoons. The kitchen is well equipped for sunset barbecues and to explore your inner chef – fresh snapper, and an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. There’s even an air-conditioned pantry! The Samara Reef homes are custom built to enjoy seamless indoor/outdoor living. The furniture’s comfy, clean and will make you feel instantly at home. The beds are good and there’s plenty of fresh towels – We didn’t use the washer/dryer but it was nice to have available The on site caretakers do just that – take great care of the property and guests, but never intrusive.
The villa location makes it easy to get in the rhythm of Samara and all it has to offer with daily walks to the beach, great restaurants and choice of amazing tours – from nature hikes to zip lining. Do yourself a favor and connect with the Samara Info Center – a wealth of knowledge and free service.Working with Mary-Ellen Meyers start to finish was a pleasure. She was always prompt and professional and her recommendations were spot on. You can’t go wrong – just book it !
Perfect home for a perfect family vacation in the sun!
Our family of 7 had a fantastic vacation in Samara Beach and staying at Villa Mirador made it even better. Mary Ellen is the perfect host and gave us all the information we needed to be prepared for our trip. We can not say enough about the house. The view is expansive and mesmerizing. The pool is refreshing after a day at the beach. The home and its amenities are extremely comfortable. The sights and sounds of the nearby jungle give you a tropical feel even though you are in a gated community. Daniel and Anna, the property managers are a pleasure and happy to assist.
The walk to the beach wasn't as long as I thought but a cab from town to the house is easy to find. We discovered The Pescaderia nearby and cooked up the most incredible shrimp we have ever tasted. We were all very sad to say goodbye to Villa Mirador and would love to go back!
Location, Location, Location!!!
We are a family of seven, ranging in ages from 7-44. Villa Mirador is amazing!!! Trust me, the pictures are awesome, but do not truly do the property justice. If you're not careful you will get an uneven tan as you stare out over Samara and the Pacific Ocean from the infinity pool. The grounds are beautifully kept, all while allowing the natural dry forest to flourish around the villa. This allows for you to be one with nature and see Howler Monkeys, Iguanas, and beautiful birds all within reach. Daniel and Anna, the caretakers at the property, were lovely and very helpful. We really had a great family vacation, memories that will last us a lifetime. We cannot wait to return to Samara and Villa Mirador.
Villa Mirador is perfect!
We have a group that goes to Costa Rica every year for 8 years running. We have stayed in all kinds of accommodations all over the country and this was hands down one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. The view from the pool alone is worth a trip to Costa Rica. The open layout is perfect for a large group and Daniel, the caretaker and his wife were amazing and taking care of our needs. Looking forward to going back!!
Very nice house, view , breeze, quiet.
ten minute walk to the beach but steep return uphill. Fine for us, we like the cardio!
However taxis are easy for return at night. Note taxi's telephones and call when ready, $4.00 for the ride.
We felt safe walking at night back from restaurant.
We will return for sure.
Zip-lining with highly-rated WingNuts Canopy Tours is just 5 min away in the hillside behind Villa Mirador. Playa Samara is perfect place for beginner surfers and there are several good surfing schools. Playa Carrillo, just a 5-minute drive away, has absolutely perfect waves for body surfing, boogie boarding, and the chest-high water is super-warm. Rent boogie boards for $2/day, bicycles, horses, ATV's or kayaks. Go ocean kayaking to the tiny island of Isla Chora. Go snorkelling or diving. Or take yoga classes on the beach. Experience flying in a gyrocopter - The Flying Crocodile. Go kayaking in a river or out in the ocean. Go deep-sea fishing for sailfish or marlin. Charter a small boat and see the fabulous tricks dolphins do in the wild. Animal lovers will want to see the amazing variety of animals being cared for at La Selva Animal Refuge & Zoo - now is your chance to observe up close a jaguarundi, kinkajou, anteater, talk to parrots, a toucan and check out some vampire bats!
