About Martha Hartsfield

Pete and Martha enjoy the mountain areas and enjoy having family gatherings in their mountain home. With 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, our home has provided lots of educational and fun activities over the years.

Martha Hartsfield purchased this chateau / country house in 1999

Why Martha Hartsfield chose Northeast Mountains

This area is beautiful and has something for everyone--shopping, golfing, hiking, water rafting and many more! It is centrally located so that you can visit Dollywood driving through the Smoky Mountains or visit Ashville and get back the same day. We've been staying in and enjoying the area since 1970. We picked out the lot, and we actually built the home ourselves with the help of family and friends.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Awesome sunset mountain views! Beautiful wooded area with wonderful fall colors!

Beautiful house. Well appointed

  • 4 of 5

Our vacation was too short. Three days is not enough to really get to know the area.

The morning and evening views were terrific.

The house is beautiful and very functional. It is well appointed with much more than we expected.

A highly recommended place,

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I'm not sure that we've ever enjoyed a mountain stay more than we did this one. Just a fantastic home. Spacious and lovingly decorated. Truly a HOME away from home. We can't wait to find a reason to go back as soon as we can!

Rafting trip

  • 5 of 5

We had two families and this place was amazing. The view over Wolffork valley was incredible. The house was perfect as we had two families, so one could stay in the two bedroom downstairs and one in the two bedrooms upstairs. The bedrooms were all large and had small couches or rockers in each room in case you wanted to be alone. Nice large kitchen with plenty of dishes and cook ware. Swing, rockers and furniture on the porch and balcony. Wish we could have stayed all week. We will definitely stay here again!

If you enjoy cooler weather when it's so hot most everywhere, then visit our home in the mountains! There's golfing close by at Kingwood, The Orchard, or Sky Valley. Horseback riding at Sunburst or the Dillard Stables can be fun for the whole family. You can take the family for a boat ride on Lake Rabun or Lake Burton on a rental boat.

Don't miss the SEVEN WONDERS OF NORTHEAST GEORGIA--Tallulah Gorge State Park (see falls and a canyon 1000 ft. deep), Black Rock Mountain State Park, Nacoochee Indian Mound near Helen, Toccoa Talls (186 ft.) near Toccoa, Brasstown Bald (Georgia's highest elevation at 4784 ft.), Chattahoochee River which originates in NE Georgia, and the Chattoga River for rafting, tubing, and fishing (57 mi. long and forms the boundary between GA and SC).

Visit the Dillard House for great food, and enjoy the petting zoo. A neat place to take the kids to eat is Goats on the Roof. Every Saturday night there's live music entertainment on the square in Franklin. Whistle Stop is great for shopping in Franklin. Local Festivals--pick up Georgia Mountain Laurel for the latest. Biltmore Estates in Ashville. Blue Ridge Parkway Drive with lunch at the Pisgah Inn. Drive up to Highlands to see Waterfalls and to shop. Drive to Black Rock Mountain State Park for a hike, picnic, or fishing at Black Rock Lake. Take the Foxfire Museum Village tour and visit the gift shop down in Mountain City. Visit Wayah Bald in the Nantahala National Forest for beautiful views and hiking. Take a winery and/or waterfalls tour. Go rafting on the Chatooga River or go to the Chattooga Ridge Zipline which has 10 zip sections. Shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at Osage on 441--grown there in Wolffork Valley. Visit Rabun Gap Outdoor Flea Market on the weekends for great bargains.
