About Martha Hartsfield

Pete and Martha enjoy the mountain areas and enjoy having family gatherings in their mountain home. With 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, our home has provided lots of educational and fun activities over the years.

Martha Hartsfield purchased this chateau / country house in 1999

Why Martha Hartsfield chose Rabun Gap

This area is beautiful and has something for everyone--shopping, golfing, hiking, water rafting and many more! It is centrally located so that you can visit Dollywood driving through the Smoky Mountains or visit Ashville and get back the same day. We've been staying in and enjoying the area since 1970. We picked out the lot, and we actually built the home ourselves with the help of family and friends.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Awesome sunset mountain views! Beautiful wooded area with wonderful fall colors!

Sunset Ridge

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Sunset Ridge, and we are already trying to plan the next trip. This time the bridge was too cold for much porch sitting, so we opened the blinds and had stunning Mountain View’s while we relaxed around the fire logs. Five cousins joined us and we got in the kitchen together an cooked one night. The kitchen literally has everything we needed. The North Georgia sites and activities are close and we enjoyed shopping in Clayton and eating at the Dillard House. We did not have time to go to Lake Rabun and go th the Falls on this short trip, but we did make it for a picnic at Black Rock.

We love this home which is so warm and inviting. Martha is a jewel of a hostess. The mattresses are terrific also. We have stayed in many VRBO homes in Rabun. County and this is our favorite. Can’t wait to go back, Amy

good times

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our little vacation in your home August 8-13. Kitchen was great; water pressure was super; bedrooms were spacious; seating was plentiful; paved driveway and covered parking were real pluses; landscaping is lovely; and the view is spectacular. What's not to love?? We all agreed we'd love to return to Sunset Ridge for another visit.

A perfect place for a family get away!

  • 5 of 5

Spectacular view! Well furnished! The separate downstairs living space with the two bedrooms was perfect for our teens! We loved having two porches! Kids loved making fires and then Smore‘s in the fire pit! We are already looking forward to going back! Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us!

Most relaxing place in GA!

  • 5 of 5

We’ve stayed here twice and we love it! There’s plenty of space for families and we love that it is accessible. You can’t beat the views! It’s so nice sitting on the porch for dinner overlooking the vistas or drinking coffee on the porch swing in the morning. The kitchen is spacious so there was plenty of room for cooking large meals. We grilled hamburgers on the porch one night. The house was very well appointed and clean each time. Martha is very responsive to emails and calls.

Amazing Sunsets and Sunrises

  • 5 of 5

We are repeat visitors to Sunset Ridge because we feel at home there and love it. The view and breeze on the porch is an amazing example of God’s art. We stayed for two weeks, and I cooked for different family groups who were in and out. Martha’s kitchen has everything one needs for big meals, The home is spacious with comfortable beds and the design allows visitors to have privacy too. Our grandchildren are fond of the lighted bear tree.

The location is perfect. We went in one direction to Dry Falls and Highlands. Sunset Ridge is on Black Rock Mountain, so we visited there and Andy’s Trout Farm. We went south to Lake Rabun and Lake Burton. One day our daughter and the grands went to the Cabbage Patch baby home and then to Helen. We think it was our best vacation ever.

Thank you, Martha, for allowing us to make your lovely home ours to make family memories. We look forward to coming back.

If you enjoy cooler weather when it's so hot most everywhere, then visit our home in the mountains! There's golfing close by at Kingwood, The Orchard, or Sky Valley. Horseback riding at Sunburst or the Dillard Stables can be fun for the whole family. You can take the family for a boat ride on Lake Rabun or Lake Burton on a rental boat.

Visit the Dillard House for great food, and enjoy the petting zoo. A neat place to take the kids to eat is Goats on the Roof. Every Saturday night there's live music entertainment on the square in Franklin. Whistle Stop is great for shopping in Franklin. Local Festivals--pick up Georgia Mountain Laurel for the latest. Biltmore Estates in Ashville. Blue Ridge Parkway Drive with lunch at the Pisgah Inn. Drive up to Highlands to see Waterfalls and to shop. Drive to Black Rock Mountain State Park for a hike, picnic, or fishing at Black Rock Lake. Take the Foxfire Museum Village tour and visit the gift shop down in Mountain City. Visit Wayah Bald in the Nantahala National Forest for beautiful views and hiking. Take a winery and/or waterfalls tour. Go rafting on the Chatooga River or go to the Chattooga Ridge Zipline which has 10 zip sections. Shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at Osage on 441--grown there in Wolffork Valley.
