About Leslie Gearhart
I was born in Newton, Iowa and have lived in DSM since 1984. I was co-owner of Metropolitan Properties for 19 years. We were a woman owned company that started by purchasing substandard central city properties we rehabbed ourselves to provides safe rental housing for women and their children primarily. In 2000 we won a 7 month long fight to save the Arlington and Hallet apartment buildings from demolition in downtown Des Moines. We had both buildings placed on the National Historic Register. They are located at 1301 & 1305 Locust St. adjacent to the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in the Western Gateway. We sold those 2 builldings and most of the 152 units we had aquired over the years to slow down. My former business partner kept one of our buildings and I started HomeBaseDSM to provide short term, furnished rental housing.

Why Leslie Gearhart chose Beaverdale
I made an offer to buy this house the first time I saw it. I love older homes, love Des Moines, and the Beaverdale neighborhood is teriffic. I have made a living rehabbing older properties in Des Moines for over 25 years and while I wanted to slow down, I am not ready to retire. This property had fairly good care over its interesting life. However it still required significant investment in rehab and updates. Just the thing I love to do.
What makes this House unique
This home has a great vibe and it very comfortable to be in. It has beautiful hardwood floors downstairs, a fireplace and large livingroom. I fell in love with the private back yard. I also love that it is within walking distance of the Beaverdale Business district.
