About Brigitte Michels
Married, from Switzerland splitting time between US, Mexico, Switzerland and Costa Rica. I love all places and I am delighted to be able to share this one with you. I love elegant design, many types of cuisine and seeing as many parts of the world as possible.
Brigitte Michels purchased this Villa in 2010
Why Brigitte Michels chose Atenas
We considered many wonderful places before buying our home in Atenas. Ultimately, we chose this house in this location for a number of reasons including the superb climate, the extraordinary beauty of Costa Rica and this area in particular, the many, the many things to see and do (including just laying by the pool with a glass of wine and watching the clouds filter through the mountains) and the exceptional people of Costa Rica - Ticos, as they refer to themselves. Many people call this area paradise and we certainly agree.
What makes this Villa unique
In addition to being in the lap of all the beauty that mother nature offers, Casa Michel is close to a huge variety of eco tourism sites and it is a short 30 minute drive, by the new freeway, to Escazu which has many exceptional restaurants and shopping possibilities.

The road up to the house is winding and the views are amazing. Once at the house you have everything you need for an amazing stay. The house itself is beautiful and the views are incredible. The weather in Atenas was in the 70s and so comfortable. The pools were nice to cool off and enjoy. The town itself is less than 2 miles from the house and had restaurants and a grocery store. People were friendly and the location was great for us to take in other parts of Costa Rica. It was a great retreat for us and I would go back in a heart beat.
Central Valley Luxury!
Our family spent the New Year holiday at this amazing property after a week on the rugged Nicoya Peninsula. What a special retreat! The home is absolutely beautiful with the most picturesque views imaginable. This was by far, one of the most well-equipped rentals we have ever stayed at; from the towels and toiletries, to the spices and utensils--it really gave us a sense of luxury and ease, especially after spending the prior week in the jungle and on the beaches. The house and casita are filled with great touches, including the artwork! It was like we were in a gallery. We spent most of our time relaxing on the pool deck, splashing in the water when the sun heated us up, and star-gazing at night! The drive into town for groceries or a bite to eat was easy and fun. We drove out to the La Paz Waterfall Garden on New Year's Day, which we loved!! And one of our favorite meals was at La Trocha; a must try when in Atenas! All in all, this was a wonderful place to bring in the New Year and we highly recommend this property!
This was a beautiful home!
My husband and I enjoyed this home very much. It was very comfortable and clean! The kitchen was very well equipped as we cooked at home a couple nights. It was in a gorgeous setting and was very safe. We were very content and glad we chose this home!!!
Home from Home
Beautiful home in a stunning position. The house has been maintained in a spotless condition and the attention to detail is rarely found in a home let alone a rented home. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this home to friends and family. Mike & Rose
Thank you very much!
Amazing view and relaxation was the best i had in a long time.
Gate community made us feel safe, the view while relaxing by or in the pool is breathe taking. Sue the property manager was helpful and quick with reaponding to a few minor issues. I truely loved this place and would stay here again.
This house can compete with the luxury resorts of Costa Rica. The view is amazing. The house is well maintained. The owner and property managers were always responsive and helpful. Very safe comfortable neighborhood. The location is off the beat and path to many attractions, definately need a car. We went to Zoo Ave, approx 30 min drive. We also went to Carara National park, approx 1hr drive. We did coffee plantation tour, arranged by Aad, the property manager who also picked us up from the airport, which was a delight. Only a couple of minor details like no expected toiletries provided, and bed linens were musty, which i washed to fix the problem were our complants. The linens are just a result of damp, humid Costa Rica conditions. The managers said the toiletry oversight was due to illness of local provider. There was also an ant problem in guest bedroom which we resolved with provided spray. Another result of the area. If you've ever been to Costa Rica, these are typical issues anywhere you stay. I would definately recommend this house for anyone traveling to Costa Rica and would rent again myself.....
Hi Jen and Bob,
Thanks very much for your review.
We were very surprised to hear that there were no toiletries and that the sheets were musty. These things have never happened before and should not have happened now. We have already communicated with Aad and Marian to insure that they do not happen again. As to the ants, we are sorry about that and, in fact, the house had been sprayed a few weeks before but ants can be really hard to avoid in Costa Rica.
In any case, we are really glad that you enjoyed your stay in spite of the issues and would be delighted to have you back either in Costa Rica or our place in France.
Rain forests, cloud forests, national parks, Pacific and Caribbean beaches, wildlife reserves, zip-lining, hiking, eco tourism in abundance are all within reach of a day trip.
