About Teresa and Rick
We have lived in Kalkaska for the past 26 years.I was even born in the Kalkaska hospital. Therefore, I am a true native! My husband Rick however, is a' transplant' from Plymouth Mi. He moved here to marry me! After this many years here, he is now considered a " Local-Yoko" as well. We have two children. Our son is 25, and our daughter is 16 yrs. old. We have lived out here at Crawford Lake for 26 years now.We love it here and this is why we purchased our lake front cottage in June of 2012. The cottage is just across the lake from our primary home. This makes it perfect for our venture of renting our cottage as a vacation get away /retreat. Again, we love Crawford Lake so much, as well as the surrounding area , so we thought why not share it with others! So, that's what we did!! We are loving meeting new people and making new friends. Our guests have been wonderful and we are grateful to have had them stay with us. So far, they love it here as much as we do!
Teresa and Rick purchased this House in 2012
Why Teresa and Rick chose Excelsior
What attracted us to the area is the fact that you have access to so many fun and exciting out door activities. There is skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing,dirt-biking, four-wheeling, hiking, boating, swimming, water-skiing, fishing, golf;and the list goes on! It is just so very peaceful and beautiful . The scenery and wildlife are breathtaking, and all you have to do is look out the window! Lastly, we love this location because it is only 20 minutes from Traverse City, Torch Lake and the casinos. Perfect!!
What makes this House unique
AHH!... The View . Sitting on the deck or dock having a drink and watching the sun set over the lake and trees will leave you speechless. The fall colors over the lake reminds us of being in the smokey mountains mostly due to the fact that this lake is not jam- packed with homes one after the other. The south end of the lake has no homes, just all cedar trees. You may even catch site of the bald eagles that nest on the south end of the lake!

Perfect Winter Spot!
Came up to have some winter fun and we did just that. Access to the Kalkaska snowmobile trail was a short ride down the road on the sleds. The cottage had all the essentials of home it was clean and cozy including a heated garage for us to change our gear in. The owner was very helpful in getting us settled and making our stay enjoyable. If I could think of one negative about our stay it would be the twin beds that our children slept in along with the pillows for everyone they could use some upgrading. As far as everything else from the owner to the cottage we felt like we were at home. We would deffiently come back and stay again either summer or winter.
Thank you for your kind review Michelle. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and the winter fun that abounds here! We are sorry the twin beds were uncomfortable as well as the pillows. We actually just replaced all the pillows within the last 2 months, but will take your suggestions into consideration. Thanks again for staying with us and we do hope you will consider staying with us again.

Relaxation and Beautiful Sunsets
We spent July 29-Aug. 5, 2017 in this cozy cottage. First of all, Rick and Teresa are some of the nicest people on the planet! They show pride in ownership and want to do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. They met us at the cottage, showed us around and gave a thorough orientation to the cottage. They even gave us some great recommendations for dinner in Traverse City for our anniversary. The cottage is clean and the kitchen has everything you can think of. The cupboards and fridge have plenty of "leftover" items from previous guests for you to use. Rick and Teresa have a garage on the property that we were able to leave our bikes in. Oh, and the sunsets...... some of the most beautiful we have ever seen! We watched each evening from the fire pit at the edge of the lake(fire wood was provided). We never got around to using the paddle boat or the canoes, but rather enjoyed our time relaxing in our tubes or fishing. We had a few rainy days, but quickly busied ourselves checking out the wineries on Old Mission Peninsula near Traverse City and took a trip to Petoskey to shop. Our 2 border collies were welcome as well, we all enjoyed our stay at this lovely lake and look forward to coming back!
Thank you so much for your kind review Alice! I can't tell you how much Rick and I
appreciate it! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. The sunsets are incredible and
we are so glad you loved them as much as we do! Thank you for staying with us and for the fresh potatoes and onions you left for us from your garden! That was so nice of you! We love the lantern you left for the cottage as well ! Thank you for everything!
Please take care and come back soon!
Sincerely, Teresa and Rick
Relaxing and great location
We have been renting places for years and this one is one of our favorites. Rick and Teresa are great to work with. It is clean, comfy furniture, and well stocked. Having 1 1/2 bathrooms is nice! The view is awesome! We had lots of meals sitting out on the deck. The water is nice and sandy bottomed, which is great.
We also were able to go to a lot of spots around there to sight see. Cherry Street Market in downtown Kalkaska is one of my favorite places and the dairy nearby is wonderful too! It is close to Traverse City, but still quiet and when you are at the cottage.
Thanks Rick and Teresa for sharing your wonderful place.
Thank you so much for the kind review Pam and Tom! We are so glad you had a great time at our cottage and found wonderful places to explore while staying with us! There is so much to see and do in our little piece of paradise in Northern Michigan! We look forward to you coming back soon!
Not enough characters to describe our visit! Issues arise from time to time that are unavoidable and stressful and come without warning. This was thee most extreme case of that for all involved. But from the minute we were made aware, it was smooth sailing! Teresa and Rick were above and beyond accommodating, hospitable, attentive and friendly. Kind of a dreary wet week with a day or 2 of sunshine. Awesome sights nearby though. Lake was amazing, our parents came with their seaplane so that was enjoyable. We had a magnificent time and would love to add this to our list of favorite cottages to stay. We can't thank Teresa and Rick enough, as well as their neighbors. This review made me a bit misty eyed, but it's just a reflection on the owners and how amazing and special they made us feel. Thank you Rick and Teresa you'll be getting a Christmas card ;) !!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Lynette! You and your family are so kind , understanding and compassionate and we can't thank you enough for truly understanding what we were going through. That being said, we are so glad you had a great time in spite of the weather! You and your family were the hit of the Crawford Lake peeps! They all loved your parents seaplane and went running to the water to take pictures as they landed and took off! How cool! Thank you for ALL you did for us, and please know your picture will be displayed proudly at the cottage. You touched my heart with it and your kindness.
Take care, and God Bless till we meet again!
The Sleeping Bear Dunes and Mackinac Island are great day trip's from our cottage; as is Leland County for their wine tours. Traverse City is only 25 min. away and is home to the Cherry Festival. Also, snowmobile and RV enthusiasts can leave right from our cottage in order to hook up with the main riding trails. Lastly, Turtle Creek Casino's and Resort is only 20 minutes away. Schuss and Shanty Creek are only 25 minutes away for your skiing and sledding fun and Torch Lake is just 20 minutes away as well! There are so many choices for everyone's up north get away adventures!
