About Razali May
I bought 'Captain's Quarters' cottage as my weekend getaway in 2008. Since then, I fell in love with Salt Spring Island and purchased the property next door as my permanent residence. I am enjoying living on Salt Spring Island and hope my visitors will fall in love with Salt Spring Island too!

Why Razali May chose Salt Spring Island
Great location with the beach access located on the beautiful south end of Salt Spring Island.
What makes this Cottage unique
Very quiet and peaceful in private location, yet minutes to town and other amenities. Watching a couple of 'Bald Eagles' on the tree in the front of the property.

The most amazing host, the most amazing place
We had an amazing time! Captain's cabin is so lovely, the attention to detail, the coziness, books and DVDs for one to enjoy, a BBQ with outside table and benches, the comfortable beds! All so lovely! We will be back, it was to leave!! Also, while you're in downtown Saltspring, don't forget to stop by studio 8, amazing pieces to see. Razali is one of the most personable and welcoming hosts we have ever had the pleasure to meet. Thank you for making our time so wonderful, we will be back 😁
Great location and beautiful surroundings.
This sweet abode was a joy to stay at. A nautical dream, and so tastefully decorated. Our host was very thoughtful and provided all we needed to know including the house number in the 'check in' tab. A nice quiet spot.
The house is very comfortable and decorated in a cute nautical theme. It had all the essentials, and the fireplace was a nice extra.
The location is very scenic with the ferry passing by. It was nice being in a quieter area but only being 15-20 minutes to Ganges. The house is on a main road and quite close to another house, but it felt very private and there was hardly any noise.
The owner was very quick to respond to a question about the baseboard heaters and even stopped by with a portable heater, which we ended up not needing once we got all the baseboard heaters going.
I was concerned about traveling with our dog (a shepherd/golden mix) after reading one of the other reviews. However, there was no problem having a dog with us at all. There was a small lawn perfect for first thing in the morning or right before bed. Our dog is used to an unfenced yard, but I would have kept her on leash if she wasn't because there was no fence between the house and the road. And, yes, you do have to cross a road to get to the beach access stairs but the road was not that busy (granted, we were in off season). We stopped at the bottom of the yard stairs, looked for traffic, and ran across the road and down the road about 50 feet to the beach stairs. Mostly though, we drove to many of the wonderful hikes on the island.
Oh, and I really recommend going to Fulford village to eat at Rocksalt. We had a wonderful supper and got to see three river otters swim by!
If you are looking for a comfortable home base to explore Salt Spring Island, I would definitely recommend the Captain's Quarters
We really enjoyed our stay. Loved the fireplace and the location. Wish we could’ve stayed longer! The place was clean and comfortable. One thing to be aware of is that the upstairs bedroom and 1/2 bathroom both have no doors on them. And the upstairs bedroom would be hard for a tall person to stay in due to the slipped roof. The downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms both do though.
We had a real adventure finding the place as the address I was given didn’t have a street number, just the street name. I naively assumed this must be because it was a short island road with only one house on it. I was wrong. Me and my friends spent quite some time finding the place in the dark with no address. Once I realized we needed help finding the place, I phoned and messaged the host. I did not hear back from him once during my entire stay. I’m guessing he may have been out of town? So, just make sure you actually have the street address. If you do you’ll be ok. Once we found the place by estimating where it would be from looking at the provided map and also by using the photo of the house from the listing it was easy to get into the house with the rest of the instructions.
So aside from the communication and check in issues I would recommend this place!
