About Ann Anda
After living in NYC for what must have been ever, I finally retired to this amazing place in 2001. And what a good decision that turned out to be. I love living in Bar Harbor year round, hiking, biking, skiing, going to Reel Pizza across the street for my bi-weekly movie fix, and sometimes I even have one of their delicious pizzas.
Ann Anda purchased this Bungalow in 1976
Why Ann Anda chose Bar Harbor
When I visited Bar Harbor in l976 the good Doctor Cameron offered me his house and office for sale. He was no longer doctoring and I fell in love with this old rambling, interconnected piece of property. I would come up here from NYC and garden on long weekends and vacations. Planting trees, flowers, bushes. But all too soon it was time to go back to my day job and I had to put everything away for the next time. Which was never soon enough. During these infrequent visits I also started the many renovations I've done to the property. It was a treasure throve of improvement possibilities, work I love. I am the most happy when I can wear my ratty old work clothes and get my hands really dirty.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Within walking distance to everything, yet nicely tucked away from the madding crowd. Not that there's much of a crowd in the winter. Perfect for summer vacations, and that's when you really need your very own parking space and a bit of breathing room to enjoy all that Bar Harbor has to offer.

All things good. Greeted by HUGE gift basket - wine, cheese, coffee, crackers, apples - great foundation for breakfast and lunch for whole week. Place itself roomy, attractively decorated, comfortable, private. Location cannot be bettered - right in heart of village with everything a short walk. We were too late for the island shuttles, or we would not have needed to use car at all. Would stay again and recommend to others. Therese & Phil Stein
Thank you Therese and Phil,
I loved having you here! You were ideal guests, leaving the place even more pristine than you found it. I so appreciated your fixing the towel rack even though that was not required by you at all. I hadn't realized it was faulty. And for getting the gate door open after the wind had slammed it shut. Again, not your job to fix, but very appreciated by me. With guests like you, who needs handymen? Thank you for being wonderful! I look forward to your next visit!
Cute apartment in a perfect location
My yorkies and I stayed here the last two weeks of this September. We stayed here for 2 weeks in June of last year too. And in a few months I plan on reserving this apartment for next year. That in itself says it all. I love it here. You can't beat the location. Dab smack in the middle of downtown Bar Harbor with a nice park right across the street. Everything is in walking distance and if you want to go into Acadia National Park without having to drive, the buses are just on the other side of the "Village Green" park. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, the bed is comfortable and the owner Ann, is close by to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you, Denise, that's wonderful to hear! And thank you for leaving the Bungalow so absolutely spotless and for nice note! Loved having you and the dear pups here once again and I am so happy that you'll be back next year.
Always a pleasure!
This place is perfectly situated. Stayed here with a dog and having a park across the street was so convenient. Within the same entrance to the Bungalow, there's a great restaurant that's open for breakfast and dinner, it is superb. You can walk to virtually any shop, restaurant, dock excursion from this location. Access to Acadia could not be easier. Would definitely stay here again. Ann is fantastic. She's super responsive when needed and always willing to help.
Thank you, Jeffrey! I loved having you and your beautiful family in my Bungalow! And so happy that you had a wonderful vacation in Bar Harbor!
Thank you for taking such thoughtful care of the place and for leaving it so pristine. Also appreciated your meticulous recycling effort!. Hope to see you again in my Bungalow!
Perfect location for this bungalow
First time visiting Bar Harbor and we are so happy to have chosen this adorable bungalow. It's located right in the heart of Bar Harbor and within walking distance to many restaurants, bus transportation, Village Green & shopping. Quaint, quiet and many amenities.
Thank you so much, Barbara! Loved having you here and knowing how much you enjoyed the town and Mount Desert Island. Thank you for treating my Bungalow with such loving care! Hope to see you again on your next trip to Maine!
Tucked away, yet in the center of the city. Wonderful host, accommodations, and. location. Easy access to Acadia national park, walking to any place in town. I have never stayed in a HomeAway I enjoyed more.
In the heart of it all, yet quiet and comfortable
Loved the location and the parking. I was worried when I pulled in that the location (right next to the town square and across from a busy café) would make for a noisy vacation, but we love it. Quiet, but yet in the center of town. While others drove in circles looking for parking, we pulled right into our space and had access to all Bar Harbor had to offer. Ann provided us a great basket of local goodies for our stay. I would definitely recommend this for a couple looking for great hiking, yet the easy access to restaurants and activities (we could walk to both kayaking and the lobster boat ride). Clean and comfortable. I'd definitely stay again.
Thank you, Tracey, for such a great review! Loved having you here and appreciated the way you left my place so spotless and well cared for. You are most welcome back, and I hope to see you many times in the future. Have a great rest of the year!
The Bungalow is right smack in the center of Bar Harbor, but tucked away behind a row of galleries on Mount Desert Street. A few minutes away is the entrance to Acadia National Park with all its splendid scenic attractions. Choose from a bicycle ride on one of Rockefeller's carriage roads, or hike any number of trails from easy walking to the more strenuous and challenging ones of the Beehive and the Precipice, and any number of in-between hikes. Take the Island Explorer bus to Sand Point Beach. It leaves right up the road from the Bungalow. And it's free.
The Island Explorer bus will take you all over the island. It'll stop wherever you are on the road and pick you up. It'll let you off wherever you want to get off. it'll take you to the airport and other spots off the island. And you can bring your bicycle along. It's a great way to avoid the hassle of having to find a parking space. Of course, you can also drive your own car through the park. There's an fee at the entrance, but it's worth it. The breathtaking panorama along the Loop Road is my personal favorite. I love walking on the ledges to Thunder Hole and if it's a windy day it's always exciting to listen to the thunder as the water there is smashed through the hole in the rock. But don't go too near if a storm is brewing.
The Island offers many concerts during the season.
Classical music, jazz, folk, rock. Also theater and movies. And historic walks, bird watching tours, whale watching cruises, nature cruises, windjammer sails, kayak excursions. And, of course, you'll never run out of places to eat lobsters in all its many manifestations. A great many of the restaurants offers the freshest, locally grown produce.
The 4th of July is a celebration not to be missed in Bar Harbor. Colorful, joyous, and straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The summer season is primarily July and August. Those are the busy months and also the warmest. When the kids go back to school, taking their parents with them, the town slows down a tiny bit, but most places stay open till mid October, and the trees start turning their glorious colors in mid September. There's plenty of sights and activities to enjoy on the island from early May till the end of October. After that the town start closing down, but does not entirely go to sleep until after Christmas and New Year. The cross country skiing opportunities on the groomed carriage roads can be its own season and if the snow is generous a glorious experience for an entire winter season.
