The Black Bear Lodge

Nestled at the foot of the Peaks of Otter, our cozy creek-side retreat blends rustic charm with modern comfort. With a fully-equipped kitchen, tranquil bedroom, and outdoor fireplace, it's the perfect escape for nature lovers. Fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the rushing creek below. Book now to experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Our cozy cabin features a private master bedroom. The two twin beds have a low ceiling in the loft and are accessible via ladder only. This arrangement may not be comfortable or safe depending on age and dimensions of guests so use at your own discretion. The couch is also a very suitable sleeping option.

Kitchen has apartment size (4 burner) stove, toaster oven, microwave and full-size fridge. Keurig with coffee. Pots, pans, plates & cups. Bathroom is stocked with towels, wash clothes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, first aid kit and hair dryer.

Cellular service is very limited in this area. US Cellular has very weak signal and no other carriers are available. Make sure to note the Wi-Fi SSID and password ahead of your trip. Wi-Fi calling works very well but may need to be enabled in the settings of your device.

Outside, you will find a large, lit covered patio with stone fireplace overlooking Overstreet Creek with the base of Headforemost Mountain beyond.

Overstreet Creek is a native trout stream in a fairly remote and heavily wooded area. The creek attracts an abundance of critters, pests, and dangerous wildlife so please be careful - this is their home too.

Our property has rocky, uneven terrain and our landscaping is a work in progress.

The Black Bear Lodge is such a great little cabin. It's so great that we have made visiting this little cabin an annual tradition trip for our family. The cabin is always clean. And where it is situated? Makes the wonderful "environment" part of the "property" as a whole. The proximity to the creek is such as value add. A perpetual "sound spa" if you will. Lastly the hosts. I can't say enough great things about Brandy and Jesse. The level of hospitality is second to none. Jesse even delivered us extra firewood while we were there. We sleep four people very comfortably in the cabin. You can too. Give this property a try. You may just leave with a new mentality. One that screams "Less is more". In all the right ways. Thank you Brandy and Jesse. See ya next year!

If you're looking for peace, seclusion, and privacy, this is the place for you. The creek-side patio with fireplace was especially enjoyable. There was even chopped wood for a fire, and I could skip across the creek to gather kindling. The kitchen and bathroom were not lacking in anything we needed. We could let our two dogs outside without a leash since nobody else was around.

The area around the property is beautiful and the inside was clean and well stocked. They even had a book that had wifi info as well as an address for the closest grocery store/gas/pharmacy. Our whole family plus our dog has fun!

This property is phenomenal if you are looking for something away from the hustle and bustle with no television. Clean, comfortable and with the river right outside the front door … couldn’t ask for anything better when in need of a retreat.Brandy was very responsive - the power went out and the electric company arrived within an hour of the s service call.Excellent, all around.

Awesome getaway!

This place was perfect for our mountain getaway. Very cozy and peaceful. Loved listening to the rushing water in the stream. Brandy was very helpful and always answered my questions promptly. Cabin was very comfortable and relaxing. Would highly recommend.

Perfect place to play

Our family stopped here for a couple nights during a road trip in a heat wave and it was perfect. The creek kept us cool and supplied our toddler with endless fascination. The cabin was comfy and very well kept. The host was responsive both to our request to tack on one more night and to fix the well pump within minutes of us alerting her to the issue. I hope to make it back sometime soon!

Amazing

The most amazing thing about this remote cabin is that it is right next to a roaring woodland stream with a huge deck with comfortable seating that extends right over it. We enjoyed a lot of time just relaxing on the deck

Family get away

When we pulled up to the cabin we were blown away by how beautiful the creek was. We loved how the deck was right over the creek and loved the outdoor fireplace. Our 2 young’s boys loved exploring the creek. The cabin was so cute and perfect for our family of 4. We explored sharp top mountain and had a blast at Virginia safari park. Great memories were made!

Perfection!

Rented this for a father/son/dog getaway. This place was just what we needed. The property is beautiful and the location of the porch area over the water was hands down our favorite part! Brandy was excellent at answering all of our questions. I would 100% recommend this property and look forward to staying here again someday.

Rustic Refreshment

It seems like almost every previous guest comments about the creek in the reviews, and that is for good reason. It is an amazing location, and the creek makes it so peaceful. The hosts have thought of virtually everything, and are very kind and accommodating. I highly recommend this hidden gem..

Lovely stay!

We just had a quick trip for one night, but it was everything we thought it would be and more. The bed was so comfortable and we loved sitting out on the deck with the fireplace listening to the creek. We cannot wait to come back!
