Perfect cottage on the lake!

This was perfect for my family of 6. Such a cute property, right on the beautiful Lake Murray. Owner was very accommodating and helpful. Nice private neighborhood, restaurants and things to do within a short distance from the house. Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds… everything you need for a great stay. I highly recommend!! Hope to return, and have another lovely stay at the lake!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lake Murray in July! We were here for a graduation at Fort Jackson (40 minute drive) but enjoyed multiple full days at the lake as well. The property was beautiful and had pretty much every accommodation and extra you could imagine. Some things we appreciated (that you don't always think of) were extra fans, plenty of food storage containers for leftovers, a gas grill, and the lake "toys" and floats. John was an exceptional host and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. We would definitely recommend!

We’ve stayed at this house several times. It’s perfect for our family. It has everything you need, cooking supplies, swimming items, etc., which is a huge plus. It’s dog friendly. The location on the lake is great, you can hope over to Catfish Johnny’s for lunch or dinner. And the sunsets are amazing from the big porches.

Lake Murray Heaven SC Getaway

We planned a family and close friends' getaway to Lake Murray, SC, months in advance—seven months, to be exact. The anticipation was well worth it, largely thanks to John, who was beyond reasonable in accommodating our needs. The island itself was a tranquil escape. There was ample room around John’s family home, providing the perfect setting for relaxation and outdoor activities. The layout of the property was well thought out, offering plenty of space for both indoor comfort and outdoor fun. One of the highlights for us was the ramp, which worked excellently for our personal boat. It made accessing the lake incredibly convenient and allowed us to maximize our time on the water without any hassle. Our group, known as the 411Marine family, makes it a tradition to travel to different lakes each year. So far, Lake Murray has undoubtedly ranked #1 on our list. The combination of stunning scenery, serene atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality from John and his family made this trip unforgettable. A heartfelt thank you to John and his family for allowing us the privilege to stay with them. Lake Murray will certainly be a cherished memory for all of us. Highly recommended!

Graduation from USC

We wanted to do something beyond renting hotel rooms in Columbia, as we planned for my son’s graduation from University of South Carolina. Renting a cottage on Lake Murray, 25 min away seemed like a way make this an extra special occasion, graduation and vacation. As first-time renters, online, we were curious about how everything would go. I am so pleased to say that our experience exceeded our expectations. I can recommend working through VRBO and HIGHLY recommend renting this, Lake Murray Island Cottage In Fantastic Location. Working with John was a breeze from the very beginning. And as our travel date approached he provided crystal-clear instructions about how to get into the house. The house itself is immaculate and comes with more “stuff” than we have in our own home. When we looked for the iron, we found it and a clothing steamer! Throughout the house every drawer is labeled and directions are clear for accessing Wi-Fi, running the dishwasher and the washing machine, etc. The roomy deck looks out over Lake Murray and is a perfect spot for a morning cup of coffee or evening drink. Even better is enjoying those beverages on the dock over the serene lake. We made use of the kayaks and paddle board, too. Food Lion and CVS are a short drive to stock-up as needed. Our favorite place for a meal was Higher Ground Char House, which John recommended. 10 min drive. Absolutely loved the wings and the burgers were tremendous. The Char House even has a playground among the outside

Cute house with all the amenities in a gorgeous location.

Family of 5 adults spent Thanksgiving week visiting our USC daughter. The house had everything I needed to prepare and serve a full Thanksgiving dinner. The views out of every window on Amenity Island are serene and beautiful. The drive to USC campus was about 30 minutes and pretty easy. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us but 2 beds are in a basement bedroom that requires you to walk outside to access the main section of the house which was a bit awkward but fine for our adult kids. John was a wonderful host.

Lake trip with my Dad

Could not have asked for a more wonderful place to enjoy a fall vacation—house and amenities were amazing, wonderful location close to restaurants and needed stores, fantastic location on the lake itself with beautiful views, host John was so nice and helpful. I would definitely want to stay here again!

Awesome Place

The owner makes contact before your stay with all the important information and answers any questions or concerns. The house was very clean and well stocked with cookware it also had outdoor grills. The house has a great view of the lake from the back deck and on the front porch. The neighborhood is very quiet and very little traffic. We all felt like it is a very safe place to stay. This was are second year in a row staying at the house and hopefully it’s not our last.

Location and Property are Topnotch!

In general: The home is very well cared for and well stocked with necessities ++. They have tons of cooking supplies not only for the kitchen but for grilling as well as preparing for large crowds. And the toys for boating and lake swimming are added added bonus as well. The dock is well kept and where we spent most of our time. Bedrooms in the home are large and spacious and the basement suite is perfect if you are vacationing with grown/flown children and their SOs. We went to the basement at night and left them upstairs. For boaters: The dock is perfect for docking your boat and the ramp is solid and long (plenty of ramp in the water to back down in as far as you need). There is some skill needed to back down the driveway to access the dock; but doable. We loved the quick access of having the ramp on property. Can't recommend this property enough!

Perfect island home

Can’t be beat, water front and on a little island!! Home has a great layout, dining and sun room that lead out to a large deck with a grill and outside dining. Really nice downstairs bedroom with full bath, and laundry room. Plenty of lake toys to use along with paddle board, kayaks, floating mat, etc… Dock is great for keeping your boat, there is a boat ramp that can be a little tricky to use or you can put in at the marina just a short drive away and drive your boat to the house. Home overlooks a large cove perfect for boating, tubing, skiing, etc and can easily boat to several restaurants on the lake.

Great location with gorgeous view

Our family was in town for our son's wedding. House was exactly as advertised with plenty of space for 6 adults and 2 small dogs. Fantastic amenities for lake fun. Amazing neighbors who are so welcoming and helpful. John, the owner, was terrific and so generous with a time extension allowing time for wedding prep and a Mother's Day celebration. We really appreciated how great John was to work with and that he stayed in communication with us throughout our stay. We would love to make a return trip!

Amazing

The owner was awesome. He communicated by phone calls, e-mails, and meeting us when we arrived. Hurricane Ian Came thur while we were there the owner called to check on us which was very thoughtful. The house was very clean, well stocked with any thing you would need. We stay once a year for our vacation at the lake and this place was our favorite. My husband loved the house and the views of the lake which was visible from the front porch and back deck. We look forward to staying again.

Perfect location

This was from the beginning booking last year until now has been a pleasant experience. Owners are incredible- house is fantastic- one of the most peaceful places we have ever been. We rented for a family weekend to visit our university of South Carolina student and football festivities. We will definitely be returning ! Thank you for a great experience!

Amazing property

This house was incredible. We stayed a few days to get our daughter settled at UofSC. The property is amazing. Everything you need and the views! Wow! Coffee on the deck in the morning. Cocktails at night. The ambiance is incredible. Sleeping at night is so quiet with the sounds of owls every once in a while. If you’re considering, jump on it! We can’t wait to go back. Hosts are fantastic as well. Highly recommend.

Must stay!

We stayed here with our kids (5 and 7) and parents. This property is in the absolute best location on the lake and stocked with everything you need…. Kitchen and bathroom essentials as well as fun water activities! The owners are the nicest folks and very responsive! We will be back and absolute recommend this place!

Just what you need for a vacation!

This was such an AMAZING place to stay at! It was clean and ready to go upon arrival. The space was perfect as our 4 kids also need their own space at times just like they do at home. There is easy access to the lake and the lake gear was perfect to use. There is a nice yard as well to play yard games and to have campfires. This was a perfect place to vacation at for family time and also has a very nice neighborhood.

Great Vacation Spot

Our experience was just what we were looking for. We are outdoor people that prefer lakes over the ocean. And we love to cook out. This location was beyond perfect for both things. We spent all of our time in the kayaks, paddle boards and our pontoon boat. We cooked out and watched a beautiful sunset every night from the porch or the dock. The grounds were very people friendly. And our dogs loved their experience to. We all felt right at home from day one! And the owners were very accommodating. Word of advice, you dont have to bring alot of stuff to this rental. They truly thought of everything. I highly recommend this location for families who are looking to disconnect and have fun with the ones they love.

Great Location

We had a great time! John met us at his place and made us feel welcomed! We spend the long weekend enjoying sunsets with a view! The house is located on a quiet island across the water from a ton of blue heron’s nest! John’s place was clean! It was the perfect get escape to enjoy Lake Murray and hang with our family!

John and Becky Brooks live in Blythewood SC and spend as much time as possible at this Lake Murray paradise. We personally manage and care for the property and look forward to continually upgrading it for our guests and for ourselves.

We are both in residential real estate sales and property management in the Greater Columbia area.

This has been a vacation home for the Brooks family since 1988. We have enjoyed it and hosted friends here for the past 28 years and now for the first time have decided to offer it for vacation rental to share with other families.

Deep water with big views yet protected enough to safely swim and keep boats at the dock.

Convenient location to Columbia. Nice surroundings with 11 homes on a private island with causeway. Huge Oak trees provide shade on the lake side and there is plenty of sunny manicured lawn area as well.
