Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Welcome to our Moab cabin. We love the great outdoors and adventure. By fact that you are here, we know you do as well. We tried camping with tents and sleeping bags when we were younger, and while, we respect those who enjoy camping we discovered that the creature comforts or lack thereof made the difference in our partnership with Nature. At our last family camp out and after burning a hole in our new eight man tent and burning my hand with our new gas lantern scrambling inside to escape a Summer rain I looked at my wife and asked if she was having fun. Reviewing the muddy mess of our camp kitchen and inevitable cleanup she thought a moment and said “No…are you?”

That was in the early 1990s and we subsequently set a plan to interact with Nature on more comfortable terms. Creature comforts and isolated from the hubbub of crowds, our cabin offers an escape from the city and stress of everyday life. Unique to the arid geology of Moab the cabin has:Three bedrooms. Comfortable soft down comforters,

• Two full bathrooms. Linens included.

• Hot showers, running water after a day of adventure

• Modern kitchen with all the kitchen gadgets

• BBQ

• Fire pit for roasting smors (subject to fire restrictions by the forest service)

• Fifty-two inch flat screen with family oriented inventory of movies

• Good cell phone service

• Wrap around deck with Spectacular views

• Low light pollution. Night skies within the darkest triangle in the continental US

• Hiking/biking trails on property and nearby

• Rustic Charm

• Isolated from crowds, a half-mile private lane into cabin.

• Warm days, cool nights

• Parking for large vehicles and trailers. (A meadow)

Located off the Sand flats road on the Wilson Mesa at 7300 feet elevation the cabin is a perfect base camp for visiting the area’s attractions. Near the trail heads of Porcupine trail, Kokopeli trail, slick rock, (world famous as the best mountain biking and hiking spot in the USA) and Finns N Things. The cabin is close to Moab’s Famous off roading and mountain biking locations, which include Arches national park, Canyon lands, Warner Lake, LaSal mountain range, and Castle Valley. Available for short (3 days 3 nights) or long (1-2 week) vacation stays. 1700 sq. feet of modern convenience but still a cabin. Restriction Notice. All off road vehicles including motorcycles need to be trailered into property and trailer-ed out of property. No off road use within the parameters of the half mile lane into the cabin.

Breathtaking views of the LaSal Mountains from one deck, the Moab rim from another and Arches national park from yet a third.13 miles from Moab and the Colorado River. No light or sound pollution; you will experience peace and quiet. Starting at sunup and lasting all day, humming birds vie for nectar from feeders on the porch. Sometimes so many they perch on your shoulder waiting their turn. Please watch the video above and check photos from cabin adventures. Read some of the testimonials/references from previous guests. Click on our blog link below to view more photos and excerpts from other guests. Call or email today to check availability as the cabin generally reserves 4-6 weeks in advance. We welcome you to the area and Susie and I are genuinely pleased that you are considering the cabin for your get away. We promise you won’t be disappointed, on the contrary you will have a vacation to remember for life.

About John Lundberg

I am a dirt biker, my wife is a hiker. We both love the outdoors but require the comfort of a good bed, hot shower, full kitchen and clean restroom to enjoy it. I have ridden my dirt bike all over the rocky mountains and in particularly the Southwest US. Moab is by far my favorite spot. The diversity of the trails is unparallelled . From above the tree line, inside Aspen forests, pines and then the red rock desert of the valley is spectacular. World famous trails are too many to list but they abound in the Moab area. My wife hikes as many miles as I ride just not as fast. Her favorite trail in the world is slick rock. We enjoy having the grand kids visit, explore and seek adventure during the day then watch a family movie at night with hot cocoa. Restriction Notice. All off road vehicles including motorcycles need to be trailered into property and trailered out of property. No off road use within the paramenters of the half mile lane into the cabin.

John Lundberg purchased this cabin in 2008

Why John Lundberg chose Moab

I spent years traveling to Moab pulling a trailer full of dirt bikes, stayed in motel after motel and finally realized I liked the area so much I bought the cabin in order to base camp out of it for all our activities. Restriction Notice. All off road vehicles including motorcycles need to be trailered into property and trailered out of property. No off road use within the paramenters of the half mile lane into the cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is near the trail heads of Porcupine, kokopeli, whole enchilada, finns n things among others. We can ride or hike from nearby the front door to some of the most beautiful vistas in the world. The cabin is very private, sitting at the end of a 1/2 mile private lane. We never tire of watching the sunset from the Castle Valley Overlook. Restriction Notice. All off road vehicles including motorcycles need to be trailered into property and trailered out of property. No off road use within the paramenters of the half mile lane into the cabin.

Moab Heaven

  • 5 of 5

A mountain biking buddy and I finally decided to make the trip from the Southeast to see what all the hype about slickrock was. In looking for a place that was to be a central base for 10 days, we wanted something that was not in the middle of Moab and offered a decent altitude since we came from a whopping 250 feet above sea level. At roughly 7,300 feet, John's cabin fit all of the requirements, and I booked it. On arrival, I was a bit surprised to find that it took 40-45 minutes to get from town to the cabin. However, after the first day, this perceived concern turned into one of the cabin's greatest benefits for us. You are reasonably isolated from all of the noise, lights, and people that are always present in Moab. Situated literally a stone's throw from Cougar Canyon, and a short hike or bike ride from Castle Valley, there is phenomenal scenery to be had without ever cranking a vehicle. If you are an astronomy buff, bring your telescope...though I have travelled a bit, I have never been anywhere with virtually no light pollution.....to view the Milky Way, you need only walk outside and look up. With the canyon and the Moab escarpment visible from the front portion of the deck, and the La Sal mountains visible from the side, it almost makes you not want to leave. The cabin is well outfitted with all the creature comforts, and while it is still to be considered a "cabin", it is more like a home. But we didn't come to sit on the porch! The best way to the cabin takes you directly through the Slickrock Recreation Area which is the main thing we came to Moab for, and it deserves it's status as one of the world's best biking and off roading areas. In addition to three days of mountain biking, we spent one day climbing in the La Sals, two days on dirt bikes, and two days hiking/climbing in both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks....all within very short driving distance. Owner John Lundberg knows the area like a local and in every instance was fast to respond and invaluable in recommending sights and trails. Aside from adding a hot tub to soak the day's pain away, there is not one thing I would change.....only one recommendation. It is easy to schedule all of your time doing the incredible amount of things available in the area, but I would encourage you to have some unplanned time to simply slow down, sit, look, and listen. The botanical and biological diversity of this high desert is amazing....but you'll miss it if you're moving too fast!

Owner's Response: Calvin, it is people like you that make this whole cabin rental thing fun for us. We absolutely love it when guests appreciate what the cabin is. We have actually had to fight the natural instinct to always develop and improve the place. Family and friends consistently tell us that the location is off the beaten trail of other accommodations and one of the main reasons they enjoy it so much. They (and we) want to keep it as such. We know there is always lots to improve on but are grateful to guests like you that consider the area world class when it comes to views and adventure. Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We hope you come again and bring some family. Honestly one of my favorite things to do is to decompress on the cabin deck and as you say just look and listen. We have considered a hot tub but the dynamics of potential weather related problems with the plumbing have always caused us pause. We even looked at a little four man portable one with minimal piping but it didn't seem sturdy enough for the rigorous weather that can occur in the spring and fall. I will revisit that idea with your suggestion however and consider it again.

Incredible views, stars and comfort.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is perfect. For being in the high country it is completely comfortable. Simple kitchen is everything you need to enjoy a great meal, home cooked with friends. The 2 bathrooms provide space for people to have easy access when needed. The place is well kept, everything is nice and clean and you can tell that the owners care about the experience of their guests. Then there is the property. The views are amazing. The sunsets and stars at night will leave you breathless. Even the drive up from town is cool. You truly feel as if you have stepped into the prehistoric on your way to the cabin. I have tons of pics that I can't wait to get through. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to have comfort and nature rolled into an awesome property that is in the middle of all Moab has to offer. Will absolutely be back!

wonderful retreat

  • 4 of 5

The cabin totally hit the spot for our short get away. Because it is up higher, it was significantly cooler than in town, which was welcome. It would have helped to have maps or guidebooks of the surrounding area in the cabin.

Owner's Response: Dan, thanks for taking the time to write. You are absolutely right, there should be some pamphlets and maps available. I used to have them on the sofa table and received a similar four star review to yours, however they pointed out that in this day and age it seemed wasteful of natural resources to have "printed" material when everyone utilizes the internet for maps and surrounding points of interest. As a result I have simply let them run out over the last couple of years. It is difficult to navigate the many aspects to keeping everyone happy, though I agree with your sentiments and will get some printed material once again. Hope to see you in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We acknowledge that the time and distance (15 miles over 40 minutes) is not for everyone, but at the same time is part of the overall experience with seclusion and ability to witness the Vistas. Thanks for coming and taking the time to write your note.

Perfect Weekend

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was everything my group was looking for. Quiet and secluded with direct access to iconic Jeep trails like Hell's Revenge and Fins as well as the La Sal loop. Rustic but not lacking in amenities. Even though he was out of the country dealing with a time zone difference, the owner was very quick to answer questions and emails and had a ton of helpful advice.
