About Ken & Diane Niemiec

I am a dive master and instructor and my wife and I enjoy traveling and diving all over the Carribean. We escpecially love the diving on Curacao and prefer the diving in the western end of the island where our house is becasue of the great visability and beauty of the coral and the fish. We try to get to the island a few times a year and love to share our little piece of paradise with others when we can't be there ourselves.

Ken & Diane Niemiec purchased this house in 2006

Why Ken & Diane Niemiec chose Sabana Westpunt

We were drawn to the western end of Curacao because it made us feel like we were really on an island without all of the commercialism that you find in town. The western end doesn't have all the big hotel chains and restruants and traffic that you'll find in town. Instead we have small family owned restraunts, a small fishing village where you can go in the morning and buy whatever was caught for the day, and throw on the grill for dinner. The most beautiful and secluded beaches are all found on this end of the island as well, and the diving is truely amazing. How could you not be drawn in by all the simplicity and beauty in one place ?

What makes this house unique

We love the beauty of our resort starting with the colorful flowers, palm trees, crystal blue waters, amazing sunrises and sunsets, the easy going, laid back atmosphere that everyone craves for when looking for a vacation spot.

Family get together

  • 5 of 5

This is a place to get away, enjoy the clean air, wonderful breeze, beautiful sunsets, excitement above and below the ocean surface, great accommodations, reasonable prices. Need a car to go to beaches nearby. Did not go to restaurants because we enjoy home cooking. But heard they were expensive and slow.

Not a place for partying or young people looking for excitement, although half of the people we saw staying there were young, and were enjoying it.

We are not divers, but enjoy the place because it was perfect for a get together with family. The accommodations were excellent and have no complaints.

A very small incident happened when we arrived and there were people in the unit we were supposed to be staying. But we went to see the manager and he put us in the next unit. It would have been a problem if we had arrived late at night, but we arrived mid day.

I recommend this place specially for the quietness, beautiful view, constant breeze, and comfortable accommodations. We are likely to go back to it.

Excellent location for diving and snorkeling

  • 4 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay with an extended family of 3 sisters and 2 husbands. The best snorkeling in North Curacao is right here. There are restaurants nearby but no markets. It is about an hour drive to Willemstad. We arrived late and the manager had the door open and the key ready for us to walk in. The manager also cheerfully repaired a few minor problems with the unit. Great place!

Relaxing & away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

Property is as described in the pictures. Location at West end of the island. There are no grocery or convenience stores on this end so get your groceries at Centrum before you leave town. There are a few "mini markets" on the way but we chose not to stop at them. We snorkeled from the steps right in front of the property. Had an issue with the fridge not getting cold even though the freezer was working fine. Extra fridge on the upstairs catwalk so Tommi & friend moved that down Monday. Didn't see much of Tommi the whole time we were there. Only TV is in the living room. There are no alarm clocks in the downstairs bedrooms. Towels you have at arrival are the only ones you're going to get. Bathrooms have hair dryers so didn't have to take that along. There is a laundry on site that you'll have to get tokens from Tommi (if you can find him & for a fee). Spent a little time at the pool area & it was very nice. The end of the property this unit is at seems a little 'run-down' for lack of a better word. There is a common area shade structure but there is only one sort of broken down wicker chair that looks like it may collapse. Some chairs (or better yet) hammocks in that area would be a great addition. Constant breeze, sometimes strong enough to blow the dishes out of the dish drainer by the sink. Beware of mosquitos--use bug spray every time you're out. There are some very good restaurants nearby, just be sure to make a reservation. Also, don't get in a hurry for dinner. On average we were 2 hours. Sol Food is good, Landhuis Misje was very good, Kura Hulanda was also good but took FOREVER. Rancho El Sobrino next door was OK. Also, the food is a little on the expensive side but beware--they add 12% "service charge" to all bills so that makes it even worse. Average dinners were $80'ish for meal & soda--if you get an appetizer & dessert, expect that to be closer to $125. I read the reviews so was prepared for the cost. Rented a car from Just Drive & can't say enough good about them. Went to Grote Knip & Cas Abou (our favorite). Entrance fee $6.00 & $3.00 for a chair. Strawberry/banana daquiri $6.00 ea--but they were very good. Snorkeling there was great for fish---not much coral. All in all, a good place to kick back & relax. Not too far away if you want to explore or go into town for a day. No issue with owner & everytime I emailed them-I got a response within 24 hours. If we ever return, we'd definately stay here again.

All we wished for

  • 5 of 5

Marazul Dive Resort came up to our expectations: clean, comfortable house in small scale resort, peace and quiet, marvelous view and beautiful surroundings. We were glad to have chosen the quiet west side of the island and didn't mind to drive to Willemstad a few times during our stay. We greatly enjoyed the trip up mountain Christoffel and the spectacular coast in Shete Bocas park. The popular restaurant "Jaanchi's" is worth a visit but you should not be in a hurry. Also visited two manor houses: "Jan Kok" where the artworks of Nena Sanchez can be seen and bought and "Knip" which houses a small but interesting slave museum. In the afternoon we visited many beautiful natural beaches in the neighborhood but we also liked to take the steps to sea at Marazul to snorkel there. Playa Grandi in Westpunt seems less inviting but the water is clear and this is where we saw sea turtles from nearby. We always hurried home to be in time to see the sunset from the upstairs balcony while having a drink. We preferred to have our dinner here too.

Only two minor points: the noise from the airco in our neighbors' living room sometimes disturbed us at night or when we were enjoying the peace and quiet and the sounds of nature during the day. Also we had to learn to operate the screen sliding doors that were not running smoothly. However, we will soon forget about these things: we will forever look back on a marvelous holiday!

Owner's Response: Thank you Philip for your great review. We do our best to try and give the most accurate description of the house and the area so that our guests know what to expect. We absolutely enjoy the amazing sunsets from the upstairs balacony as well as having our dinners up there in the evenings. We are sorry that you had some issues with the sliding screens. We had completely removed them and cleaned and waxed them so they would slide easier while we were there in December. Because you're on an island, the salty air does things you wouldn't normally have to deal with when your on the mainland. We hope you will come back for a return visit sometime soon.

Quiet, relaxing, and great sunsets

  • 5 of 5

The description of the property on the web site is completely accurate.

The property is located in a gated community of 20-something privately owned units located about 40 minutes west of the Curacao airport and city of Willemstad. This property is a stand-alone house with a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs, and a third (very large) bedroom and (also large) bathroom upstairs. The unit sleeps up to 6 people. There’s a small porch on the first floor and a large porch with an awning upstairs where you can sit and relax, eat and enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the water. The kitchen will very well equipped. The upstairs is not appropriate for small children because the slats on the balcony are far enough apart that a small child could fall through. There’s a very nice common pool with lounge chairs and a covered area. The grounds and the pool are very well maintained. Some small problems were quickly corrected by the on-site handy man. The property is on a cliff over the water; there is a stairway and ladder down to the water, but a public beach with much easier water access is a very short walk away. The place is very quiet; there’s no night life, no on-site dive shop, restaurant or store. But all of those (except for the night life) are a short drive away. Good snorkeling/diving close by.

If you want a quiet, relaxing, reasonably priced vacation with spectacular sunsets, then this is the place for you.

Owner's Response: Thank you Steve, for the great reveiw. We do our best to represent the house exactly how it is so that guests are not dissappointed during their stay. We did appreciate your assistance with the door issue and hope that future guests will let us know about any issues during their stay so that we can address them immediately as well. We hope to have you back again sometime soon. Safe travels, Ken & Diane
