Wake up to beautiful sunrise colors cascading over the horizon from your beachfront ocean view balcony in the morning, lounge by the pool or relax under the shade of the palm trees on the white and volcanic sandy beach while watching the waves roll in. Take a walk on the beach and later, let the sound of the ocean lull you to sleep at night. Our condo is located on the 11th floor of the 'Playa Serena' condo. Upon your arrival to our gated condo residence, you will be greeted by our security staff 24 -7, and the covered parking is well lit.

This condo rental can include the owners Suzuki Jimny 4 wheel drive SUV as part of the rental package for your vacation. There is an additional deposit that is fully refundable when the car is returned in good condition and the price to add the car is an additional $200/week and negotiable for longer stays.

While sitting on the balcony you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, sandy beach, pool and social area, neighboring Coronado Beach Resort, as well as the majestic mountains. Our spacious 1350 square foot apartment is fully furnished and has all the comforts of home including a HDTV, a DVD Player, a stereo system with IPOD holding dock, WiFi Internet, full cooking and laundry facilities, dining and living area and a balcony with a BBQ. The kitchen has granite counter tops, a breakfast bar and stainless steel appliances. Our two bedroom apartment has a king bed in the master bedroom with a large walk in closet with built in drawers and the adjoining ensuite has double sinks, granite counter and a large walk in shower. The second bedroom has a queen bed with bathroom across the hall which includes a large walk in shower.

Use the A/C and numerous ceiling fans when necessary but you can open the patio sliding glass doors, and windows for a continuous cool breeze from the mountains to refresh you.

There is over 54,000 square feet of social area including a beautiful pool, area to tan and visit, thatched roof gathering areas, an air conditioned fitness centre/gym located on the ground floor, and more than 230 feet of private palm treed beachfront with loungers and bohios.

During your stay, you will experience a tropical climate varying between 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Gorgona Beach is considered to be in the dry arc of Panama so the weather is always warm and a short lived rain shower during the rainy season is refreshing. The visibility of the islands, lushness of vegetation, and kaleidoscope of sky colors is greatly enhanced during the rainy season. Testimonials of Canadian and Americans who live here year round, state that this is the most pleasant time of year for them. Thus Panama has become the number one destination to travel to year round.

Playa Serena is a quiet get away, but if you want more action, activities in the area include kayaking, parasailing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, sailing, windsurfing, biking, hiking and deep-sea fishing. The Tourist attractions include the Panama National Parks, Islands, Mountains, Rainforest Reserves, Bird watching, Wildlife Refuges, World History, Jungle boat tours, Golf courses, Sightseeing Tour companies, shopping or visit a volcano at El Valle. The town of Coronado is just 3 km away with a variety of restaurants and shops with local prices. As well there is a Hospital (San Fernando Clinic), English speaking Church services, Synagogue, Banks and three-24-hour Super Markets with pharmacies.

About Christopher and Maureen

Being typical Canucks (Canadians), we had the pleasure of experiencing the southern climate during our numerous trips into the Caribbean Islands. Being in the Education profession we were only allowed to escape the cold winter weather by getting away during the March Break. We certainly got hooked with the warm climate, gorgeous scenery and diverse cultures. So we began to put our retirement dream into action. As we were both eligible to retire by 2010, we were determined to spend our winters in a warmer climate. After a trip into Costa Rica on one of our March Break get-a-ways, we fell in love with the perfect year round climate of 80+ degrees, warm breezes off of the ocean and diverse topography including mountains, beaches and rainforests. As we researched, we discovered Panama was identical and real estate prices were much lower. In 2006, we set out to work the dream of purchasing something in Panama. Reality happened on our fourth day of our week long stay. After viewing mountain, city and beach properties we bought into a pre-constructed gated residential condo known as Playa Serena ~ a beach home ‘Paradise’ right on the Pacific Ocean.

We were able to spend two weeks over Christmas 2009 with two of our three children as we were still in the work force. Finally, we moved into our dream Panama home away from home in December 2010. God does work in mysterious ways, as we have been truly blessed! Playa Serena Residential Resort Project is a vacationer's paradise! It offers a beachfront experience with a resort environment and all of the necessary amenities are within a ten minute drive. One could also say that Playa Serena is a community where strangers can enter and become friends!

Hopefully you will experience Panama too and fall in love with all it has to offer!

Why Christopher and Maureen chose Panamá Oeste

Before retiring we were travelling to the islands in search of a place to call home during the Canadian cold winter months. We wanted to own a condo in a beautiful location, that was on the ocean, offered consistent warm weather year round, had a stable economy and safe from natural disasters i.e. hurricanes and tornadoes. As well we wanted a place where we could go on new adventures, explore new areas, rest, socialize and meet new friends. We realized that this quest was a tall order but Panama fit the bill! Our search ended when we found the beach community on the Pacific Ocean, in the quaint village of Gorgona in Panama. Playa Serena is truly a vacationer’s paradise!

What makes this condo unique

Staying at Playa Serena allows us to pause from our fast paced daily routine of activities back in Canada, rest, socialize and rejuvenate. We are consistently struck by the intensiity of a sunrise or sunset over the Pacific Ocean, the majesty of the mountains and the beauty of the lush flowers and vegetation. Playa Serena allows us to leave obligations and responsibilities and let things happen. We can go for undirected walks, explore new territory and be ready for the next adventure to turn up.

Sound of waves 24-7, buy fresh fish on the beach!

The condo is outfitted with everything you could need for a vacation that feels like home. The property managers were very helpful, and available around the clock. Really, there is nothing to complain about. I would suggest that an upgrade of the cable TV to some English speaking channels that can watch news and sports would be appreciated. But really, otherwise, the condo is outstanding!

Delightful, Sunny, & Relaxing

The condo was as described and very lovely. We enjoyed our time there, finding it relaxing and friendly. The breeze blowing through kept the condo comfortable during the day and using the air conditioner for a while in the night, cooled the bedroom to a very nice temperature. Enjoying the sound of the ocean and watching the pelicans and other fishing birds dive and fish in the ocean from the balcony is a fabulous way to relax and unwind.

These owners raise the bar for owners on VRBO. Their care and attention to all issues down to the Property Managers who met us there comes through in renting from them. Thank you Chris and Maureen.

Amazing!!

We knew the condo would be perfect as soon as we walked through the door. The full wall of windows in the living room and windows across the dining room and kitchen made the unit bright and spacious and of course the ocean view was incredible. We kept the blinds closed from 9:30 am to noon to keep the hot sun out of the unit and then we always had a breeze and the sound of the waves crashing.

The condo was spotless and much larger than we expected it to be. The kitchen was well stocked with tools, pots, pans, glasses, plates etc and I learned how to use a rice cooker for the first time!

Mark and Brenda are very kind and knowledgeable property managers who gave us a complete tour of the condo and property when we arrived and answered any questions we had during our stay. It was great to see them enjoying the pool with us during the Monday morning Aquafit class.

We loved having the option of quick access to the pool or beach and plenty of shade. We were also amazed at the constant breeze which made the temperature seem cooler than it actually was. The condo had pool noodles, body boards, lawn chairs etc for the guests to use.

We rented the owner's Suzuki Jimney and were grateful to have it for quick trips to Coronado for groceries, up to El Valle to the market, to Rio Hato Fish Market and San Carlos to take my daughter to surfing lessons.

I also experienced the Gorgona to El Valle bus with new friends I met at Playa Serena. The bus system is reliable, affordable and there are many buses going everywhere. The local people of Gorgona are very friendly and always said hello when we were walking through the village. The fishing village on the beach was an experience to watch and it was nice to buy fresh fish and shrimp from the fishermen.

Chris and Maureen were a pleasure to deal with from our very first inquiry on the property and every step of the process. This is a great condo in a perfect location and we look forward to returning in the future.

Absolutely wonderful

We've rented numerous times through VRBO and this was one of our top experiences. The condo is very spacious, comfortable, and nicely appointed. The bed and pillows were very comfy. The master bathroom is huge - as is the walk-in closet. The kitchen is fully loaded if you feel like cooking. We're both cooks, so we made use of the kitchen a couple nights and found pretty much everything we needed. The view from front and back are beautiful. The beach is almost always empty of people and is lovey to walk on. The owners, Maureen and Chris, are so easy to deal with - and the property managers, Brenda and Mark, couldn't be better. They offer you all the time in the world when you arrive to make sure you're comfortable and oriented. They were great resources, too. The only thing we didn't like was ... wait, there wasn't anything! Really. Nothing. It was great.

A great location for fun and adventure

We stayed over at Playa Serena for 6 days in early January 2018. It is the second property I have rented from Maureen and Chris. This beautiful condo bears the hallmark of its owners. It is spacious, very clean, with a breathtaking view of the beach and ocean. The unit is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short or extended stay. Upon arrival we were met by Mark and Brenda, the property managers, and provided with a guided tour. The owners also put together a very comprehensive information package. The beach is beautiful, clean, and quiet, even during the weekend. We were told to expect more locals over the weekend however we found it to still be very quiet. The grounds on the condo property is well maintained. We made good use of the small gym which had enough equipment for a reasonable workout with standard cardio machines and light dumbbells. We also had the pleasure of a "Bootcamp" workout with Rachel and a friendly group of participants. These take place on Wednesdays and Fridays @ 8:15 AM in the recreation room and can be a great workout while having fun.

We made good use of the condo's rental vehicle. We visited El Valle de Anton where we enjoyed hiking and beautiful water falls. A must try is La Casa de Lourdes Restaurant for both the food and magical ambiance. The National Park Altos de Campana, a 30 minute drive from Playa Serena, offers majestic views of Chime and the Pacific Ocean. We also experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity - visiting an Embera Indian Village. Through a warm and engaging interaction with locals we were left with a better appreciation of Panama history and how this indigenous tribe on the Chagres River manages to preserve its culture and tradition.

The traffic situation on the Pan Americana Highway could be problematic. Once the traffic reaches a certain threshold in the number of vehicles on the highway, median turnoff exits are blocked off. In our case it happened on both Saturday and Sunday. You are then left with no alternative but to either turn around and head back to the condo, or get mired in traffic heading the wrong direction until you can safely turn around. It could be an exercise in frustration.

We tried a number of restaurant in the Coronado area. All were good, however, do not expect a large wine selection in most.

All in all, a memorable adventure. Thanks Maureen and Chris.

Walking, running or cycling on the beach. View the Chame River with it's continuous topograhical changes during low and high tides, which is within walking distance. There is a fish market within walking distance to purchase fresh caught fish, spiny lobster and large langostinos fresh out of the ocean.

Panama City and the Panama Canal is 1 hour away; El Valle is about 40 minutes away and has a market to go shopping, zoo, hiking, zipline, biking, horsebackriding, archeological hikes, restaurants, thermal springs; Other nearby activities are: jet skiing, boating, waterskiing, tennis, golf, restaurants; Surfing at the condo beach or other great surf spots nearby; Altos del Maria has a great walking/hiking trail that is a great mountain escape to see fresh water swimming area with a breath taking waterfall; There are many more places to see that we can provide to you when you get here.
