Notes
- The house has underfloor heating with individual controls for each room. As the house is all on one level and tiled or fitted with wooden floors and is therefore very wheelchair friendly. We will consider pets as long as they do not go into the bedrooms and keep off the sofa! Please tell us about your pets if you make an enquiry. Cancellation: We offer a full refund up to 8 weeks before arrival. After this, a refund will only be given if the dates are rebooked by another guest Please note: This house is not available for parties of any description including school formal 'after parties'. If the house is booked for this purpose without telling the owner refunds will not be given.

- In relation to our cancellation policy, we will make the house available immediately you cancel and if we secure another booking for the same dates a full refund will be given. If we have no guests arriving/departing on the days you arrive leave we are happy to accommodate early arrivals and later departures for no additional cost. No parties are allowed in the house and the maximum number of people staying overnight must nor exceed 8. Refunds will not be given if a party is planned. Pets are welcome if agreed with the owner - all pets must stay out of the bedrooms, off the sofas and must be cleaned up after in the garden.

Great getaway from it all spot
Excellent dog friendly property with nearby beach within walking distance. Online listing states a nearby bar and restaurant called the Drunken Duck at end of drive, yes it’s at the end of the drive BUT has been closed for approx 6 years So there’s nowhere in walking distance to eat. Only pub within walking distance is Michael Johns pub which is NOT dog friendly, if you take your dog you have to sit outside in the open smoking area. The ‘dog-issue’ aside, even if I’d wanted an Irish bar this was not it, can’t fault the Guinness but if it’s craic you want then the closest would be in Greencastle or Moville and you will need a taxi. Had we known the Drunken Duck had closed and that the only other pub didn’t allow dogs in we would not have booked. That aside the house itself is ideal, great en-suite rooms, plenty of room with a wonderful welcome pack of red wine and homemade biscuits and cake from Kate. The addition on checkout to pay for emptying the bins after paying for the stay might jar slightly for some customers but bins must be emptied.

Almost perfect
So close to being a really first class place. The welcome was sweet even though we never actually got to meet Kate and Gavin personally. The views are stellar. Truly stunning and something we all enjoyed. The house is very roomy. It just needs a thorough cleaning inside and out and small things like detergent for the washing machine so that guests don't have to go find and purchase a box for one or two loads of laundry, easy access to the clothesline, towel hooks near the showers and at the least hand soap in the bathrooms... Minor adjustments would make a big difference for guests. We also weren't thrilled about having to pay extra to take the trash out behind the house. That seems a bit redundant after paying handsomely to stay there. We had an early flight in Belfast and having to do chores in the dark and the rain that we assumed we were already paying for made us raise an eyebrow. Thank goodness we didn't have to go searching for glass recycling in one of the villages also.
Personally, when on holiday, we don't go looking for work, no matter how small the job. We are leaving our daily drudgery at home and paying handsomely for that small but very important luxury. And while not ideal, asking for the trash to be taken out isn't actually that unreasonable. Asking paying guests to pay for trash disposal is a whole other ballgame. It seems a shame that such a small thing made such a big impression. It wasn't the takeaway we had hoped for.
Dear Kelly, Thank you for your review, and I would like to respond to your feedback. I am very sorry that was no laundry detergent for you as we usually leave some for our guests, and we will also ensure that the washing line is more accessible as I acknowledge it can get overgrown around the back of the house if the gardener has not been for a couple of weeks. As reflected in our numerous reviews, our guests say that the house is very clean upon their arrival and I do not think it is fair to say it requires a thorough cleaning. I would like to point that there are towel hooks adjacent to each of the showers, in addition to the towel rails in each bathroom/en suite. We have thought carefully about leaving soap, but have made the decision not to, as it would involve too much waste in providing new soap for every visitor.
In relation to the rubbish disposal, you were not asked to pay for taking your rubbish from the house to the outside bins, but for the cost of having your waste removed and disposed of from the house. I genuinely fail to see why you have an issue with taking your rubbish from the bins in the kitchen and putting it in the outside bin? The cost of waste disposal is not part of local rates/taxes here in Ireland and we think it fair to ask our guests to contribute towards the cost of disposing of the rubbish they accumulate during their stay. All of the details relating to rubbish disposal are clearly explained on the House Information Sheet we leave for guests to read on their arrival, and you would therefore have been aware of what we ask from our guests when you first arrived. Given you knew you had an early start to catch your flight you could have left the rubbish out the night before you were leaving to save you ‘doing chores in the dark and rain’.
The cost of your stay at the house was €490 for three nights (excluding the website booking fee) including heating and electricity. This equates to €164 per night for up to 8 guests in four bedrooms, which equates to €20 per person per night. As there were only 3 people in your party this was €55 per night which I think is still good value, and it is not fair to be described as ‘paying handsomeIy’, which suggests you paid too much. I hope this response clearly explains our position in relation to your feedback, and I would urge potential guests to read our other reviews to get a more accurate picture of our guests experience. The Inishowen 4 trip
I had tried to book this house on 2 previous trips and it was booked out, so I was delighted when we managed to get it this trip and we were not disappointed! It is exactly as described and definitely the best house that we have rented in Inishowen.
Fantastic family getaway that even cloudy days couldn't spoil!
Having viewed Tara's House on-line and read the previous reviews of the property, our expectations were high for our week in Donegal. Even before we arrived, Kate couldn't have been more helpful with directions and information about the area. Driving down the hill to the house which nestled into the hillside, we were certainly not disappointed. The gardens were so sympathetically planted and the views out to Lough Foyle were a constant delight: even changes in the weather did not detract from this excellent spot. Kate spoiled us with delicious and thoughtful treats on arrival and we enjoyed every minute of our time there. The house is so well situated for exploring this beautiful part of the world. Busy days spent sightseeing around the Wild Atlantic Way helped us appreciate the complete haven of peace that this property represents. Comfortable, well-designed and proportioned living accommodation meant that everyone in our party were happy and had their own little corners for relaxing and reading. Hoping we can visit again soon !
Wonderful Vacation Home
This is a vacation home that I would most definitely recommend. It was exactly as advertised and my family ( 4 adults and two small grandchildren) absolutely loved it. The home was very clean, spacious and well-organized and the view of the sea was breath-taking every day. We enjoyed our quick 8 minute trip to Moville for dinner and supplies and loved the access to the ferry in Green Castle which took us across the bay and onto the sights of Portrush, Giants Causeway etc.
You will not be disappointed.

Tara's House is a 10 minute walk from a Blue Flag beach, a 2 minute drive to a links golf course (Greencastle), and is approx 3km from the fishing village of Greencastle, and about 8km to the seaside town of Moville. It is an ideal base for family beach holiday in a safe and peaceful environment. The house also serves well as a touring base for the Inishowen peninsula and Northern Ireland. The historic city of Derry is 30 minutes drive away and the Antrim coastline and the Giant's Causeway can be reached via the Greencastle-Magilligan ferry. The house is a great place for families, couples, friends, golfers, artists and anglers, and also for those just wanting a quiet and beautiful place to relax. Activities that can be enjoyed in the local area include sailing, kayaking, shore walks, beaches, shopping in Derry, Millenium Theatre in Derry, Summer Festivals, Sea Angling, Golfing (Greencastle, Ballyliffen, Redcastle), Hill Walking and Scenic Tours.

We built Tara's House in 2008 - a real labour of love and we are very proud of the house and we love to share this very special place with our guests. It was designed by an architect family member and we all survived to tell the tale! We have replanted a rose that used to grow at the original cottage on the site as a memento to the history of the site.
