About the property

Two separate Cottages, Total-7 Bedrooms + 2 sofa sleepers, 4.5 Baths, Sleeps 22

As of April 5, 2017, only the last week of August remains for Summer 2017.

Our major construction/renovation project done in 2014-15 is now complete. In our new lower level walk-out, we added two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an additional large living area with a gas fireplace, a kitchenette, a separate study with a twin sofa bed, and a laundry area. We also have an outdoor natural gas barbeque and an outdoor shower. There are windows on all four sides of this lower level. The windows overlook the creek to the north and Lake Michigan to the west.

We also redid much of the main floor with an entirely new kitchen. The main level bathroom is new as well. The newly enclosed porch on the main level provides additional seating and a large round dining table overlooking Lake Michigan.

In summary, the main house now includes: six bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a 1/2 bathroom and three distinct living areas. There is a fully redone kitchen with dishwasher on the main level and a wet bar/kitchenette on the lower level. On the third level, there are two bedrooms , the 1/2 bath and a large deck with views of Lake Michigan and the stream.

The separate guest house is fully self contained with one bedroom and a kitchen with new stainless steel appliances. It also has a living/dining room with a queen sofa bed. The full bath has a whirlpool tub. The Carriage House also has a washer/dryer and outdoor seating overlooking the stream. It is great place for family members who would like a bit more privacy. It has been totally redone.

There is a flat screen HDTV in each house. There is also a 60" UHD/4K television in the lower level of the Main House. All three TV's are equipped with Roku streaming devices.

Both cottages have fireplaces. WiFI/Internet is provided.

Our 2.3 acre property has 186 feet of Lake Michigan frontage with direct walk out (no steps down) to the water. It is located in the historic Pierport community halfway between Manistee and Frankfort. Our beachfront has a beautiful sandy flat Lake Michigan beach. It is possible to enjoy long walks both north and south, on the beach.

Our property also includes a small stream which flows out to Lake Michigan through a wooded part of our property and a large flat yard perfect for all types of lawn games. A large firepit area with firewood provided and a swing overlooks Lake Michigan's beautiful sunsets.

The main house is a classic Lake Michigan cottage originally constructed in 1889, but totally renovated in 2014/15. There is a wooded area across the stream from both cottages. Woodlands are also across the street.

This is a beautiful Lake Michigan waterfront setting and a perfect place to enjoy a classic Pure Michigan summer.

Additional pictures are available on request.

Property comes fully furnished with bed linens, towels, beach towels, dishes, silverware and cooking utensils.

Furnished with classic cottage furniture and some antiques.

About David W. and Kathryn Bisbee

We spent three years looking for a Lake Michigan waterfront property and were fortunate to find this special property. We move out during the summer months to make it available for our guests from all over the Midwest. After 21 months of major renovations, our property now works well for extended families and gatherings of friends.

David W. and Kathryn Bisbee purchased this cottage in 2011

Why David W. and Kathryn Bisbee chose Northwest

This beautiful Lake Michigan beachfront property is flat and accessible with no steps down to the beach. We really liked having the two separate cottages. The main cottage was built in 1889 and has undergone an extensive renovation in 2014/2015.

We lifted up the main cottage and added a new lower level with 2 more bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, a living area with a wet bar, a fireplace and a washer/dryer. The adjacent separate Carriage House was also redone with a modern kitchen and bathroom.

What makes this cottage unique

Several of Northwest lower Michigan's wonderful smaller towns (Onekama, Frankfort, Arcadia and Bear Lake are located within a 10-20 minute drive. The small towns of the Leelanau Peninsula (Leland, Northport and Suttons Bay) are easily accessible within an hour. Sleeping Bear Dunes (most beautiful place in America according to GMA in 2014) and Traverse City are only an hour north. Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course (Michigan's #1 public course) is five minutes north.

Country Comfort with Modern Conveniences

  • 5 of 5

We loved this vacation getaway. The gorgeous setting on Lake Michigan was beautiful and private. I grew up in metro Detroit, but had not visited this area in more than 40 years. Was not disappointed. Particularly pleased that-- beyond the country comfort, we had all of the modern conveniences-- including wireless internet. David and Kathryn could not have been more gracious. A great location for extended families. We waited more than a year for availability. It was worth it.

Wonderful place/Great stay/Hospitable Hosts

  • 5 of 5

David & Katryn are the best hosts and have created a beautiful spot to enjoy Lake Michigan & time away with family & friends.

Enjoyed long beach walks, watching bald eagles & herons, swinging &listening to waves & the peaceful creek sounds. Couldn't ask for a better sanctuary & place to relax. Best view in Michigan. Thank you both for sharing with our family!

Well Done!

  • 5 of 5

The two year wait is worth it! David and Kathryn have outdone themselves with the updates to this quaint, yet very spacious cottage (and bonus carriage house). You will be amazed when you see the work that was done in raising the house (literally) 4' to install a beautiful lower level. Our large extended family enjoyed the cottage where we gathered for family meals, played games indoors and outdoors, took in spectacular sunsets, fires by the beach, and stargazing. When we were not camped out at the house (easily done for an entire week), it offered the perfect jump off point for trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Platt River Canoeing, several of the local golf courses and a nice family dinner, ice cream and shopping in Manistee.

David was wonderful to work with, and provided excellent communication throughout the process. His attention to detail can be seen in the cottage updates, without spoiling its Lake Michigan charm. Thanks David and Kathryn for helping our family add some great memories to our Michigan vacation archives!

Picturesque Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the quaint environment of the cottage and guesthouse with extended family. The cottage and carriage house fit three families with ease. The cottage retains its rustic charm while providing modern amenities. The carriage house is beautifully renovated. The outdoor space is expansive and perfect for cocktails and activities. We enjoyed the easy access to the beautiful private beach from our backyard. The fire pit was the perfect spot to roast marshmallows and watch the sun set. The area had plenty of biking and hiking trails and three second to none golf courses. We can't wait to return.

Outstanding Getaway Destination

  • 5 of 5

We had two families (8 people) in our party that stayed at this property and there was plenty of room to spare. The guest house was perfect for our family with small children and the large house with the screened in dining porch was great for everyone to get together at dinner time.

The houses both were problem-free, very clean, and nicely appointed. The view from the screened in porch is amazing, and at night with the windows open you can hear the waves on Lake Michigan and the brook that runs past the house. Perfect for sleeping!

The grounds are large and well-maintained. There is plenty of room for running around, playing croquet or horse shoes (both are provided on premises) and the beach is a short walk down a nice plank path. There are plenty of trees for shade and a wonderful path along the brook that my 5 year-old daughter just loved. The fire pit on the way to the beach was a big hit, there is nothing like watching the sunset with a crackling fire and then waiting for the stars to come out.

The beach is fantastic, there is a lot of private frontage. Each evening we walked the length of the beach to a distant point, about an hour round-trip, and it was a perfect way to wind down a day.The coast is reminiscent of Oregon, it feels somewhat wild, with evergreen trees bumping up against the sand and the occasional deer coming down for water.

There is plenty to do within a short drive of the house. We are into exploring local food options and we found several great farms, farm-stands, and farmers' markets. There is also great fishing nearby and the Sleeping Bear dunes are a short drive away.

All in all, we loved our stay here and highly recommend it. We look forward to going back!
