The house is nice, Gary was a great host, and the sitting on the deck and watch the waves for a day, which is what we came for, was spectacular!

Stunning views!!!

Nancy & Gary’s home is a perfect getaway for the weekend. My girlfriends & I had an absolutely wonderful time taking advantage of the stunning views of the ocean and listening to the lulling sounds of the surf. Simply put, everything was perfect. No need to go anywhere else ... it’s heaven!

Amazing property--wish we could stay forever!

Spent a girls' night away at Gary and Nancy's place. What a beautiful property. Everything we needed was there---including the amazing ocean view. Nancy's artistic talent could be seen throughout the house including our own personalized welcome sign. They were attentive and positive to all of our needs. Definitely a place to come back to!

Montara Bluff Home

Amazing. The pictures do not capture the full beauty and tranquility of the home. Nancy’s artwork, eclectic furnishings and the proximity of the ocean/bluff’s make this a destination point, it’s so much more than just a rental.

Breathtaking Views

The property is immaculate and the views can not be described. The house has more than enough room and extra amenities as in steam shower, massage chair and gas fireplace! The owners stayed in contact welcomed us with a personal sign and recommended numerous local restaurants. The experience could not have been better. Well if we would have been able to stay longer perhaps!

Peaceful and Great for a Group

Other VRBOs I've stayed at have the bare minimum but Nancy and Gary's home had everything we needed that made us feel like it was our home away from home. The views are amazing and morning coffee with friends overlooking the ocean was our highlight. The entire living area has amazing views and plenty of space for our group to gather. Nancy and Gary were great hosts and I was surprised that we didn't hear anything from upstairs at all. The location is perfect, close enough to Half Moon Bay and Pacifica for a quick run to a major store if needed, but Montara is quiet and peaceful.

Beautiful house and great ocean views

We walked in and the back of the house has a wall of sliding doors with the ocean just beyond. What a view! The dining table is situated so that it is right in front of the full ocean views so where else would we want to eat? We ordered take out from the Peruvian restaurant and the sandwich shop (Gherkins) and basically had most of our meals at the table. We had 5 adults in our group and the house layout was just right. 2 bedrooms share a jack and jill bathroom. This bathroom also has the sauna in the shower. These two bedrooms are private other than the shared bathroom. Then there is a hall bath with double sinks. The third bedroom (fireplace room) can share this bathroom with anyone who may be sleeping on the sofa bed (which is wonderfully close to the ocean!) There are privacy screens for the sofa bed. One suggestion (and there may be reasons for not doing this) is that I would love to have screens on a few of the sliding doors so that we could open the doors all the way and get the full ocean breeze. You just can't get much closer to the ocean than this house and we really hope to visit again! PS Watch the video!

Ocean Front in Montara, CA

This house lived up to its billing and then some. The view of the Pacific is just mesmerizing. The photos of the house in the listing do not try to oversell anything, they don't have to. The location is great, just minutes away from just about anything. The views are wonderful. And the house itself - as far as amenities, you'll have everything you need. Plenty of sheets and towels, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped with quality cookware, dishes, utensils, etc. The house is well furnished, with plenty of seating for dining and just relaxing. Nancy and Gary were exceptional hosts and gave us some great advice for shopping, site seeing, restaurants, and local natural areas for bird and wildlife viewing. Not to mention that they are just great people. We were there from mid-Sep to mid-Oct. On many a day we never left the house, sitting on the deck watching for whale spouts, which we saw on a regular basis. (Hint - bring your binoculars. What looks like a big splash with unaided eye may reveal a whale leaping out of the water or tail slapping when viewed with binoculars, or with the host's telescope on the deck.) We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and recommend it without hesitation.

A month in Montara at Gary and Nancy's place

It's a wonderful place to stay - being on the cliff overlooking the ocean and the lighthouse and the small beach - can't be beat. Gary and Nancy are perfect hosts - they were so kind and thoughtful. Truly an incredible month in a great place.

Great Thanksgiving At the Beach

The home is beautiful and the views of the ocean from the bluff are spectacular. Nancy and Gary are warm and welcoming. The 4 star rating on cleanliness is due to there having been a lot of clutter in the bathrooms. The showers were full of open/unused product and the bathroom drawers were equally filled with opened toothpaste, partially used bars of soap, used disposable razors, tooth brushes etc. We booked the house for an entire week and hoped to be able to easily unpack and utilize bathroom space. We had to clear things out to do that. Same for the kitchen. A lot of opened/paritally used items in the fridge, limited pantry space due to the same. The 4 stars on location is due to the fact that the house is located just off the busy highway, which is convenient for driving, but the highway has heavy traffic at times and does not have much of a shoulder, sidewalks or paths. Thus, to the extent you want to leave the house to go to areas where beach access if available, the hiking trails, nearby coffee, etc. you really have to drive. Walking (especially with children) is really not easy or enjoyable.

As advertised, a wonderful place to enjoy breathtaking views of the pacific. Gary and Nancy are welcoming and accommodating. They really made the experience pleasurable. Close to anything that you may need. A real gem.

Montara getaway

The views from the house are spectacular! Nancy greeted us with a precious welcome sign and nice overview of the home. The kitchen and dining in areas are quite large, and the bedrooms comfortable. Front bedroom gets quite a bit of traffic noise from adjacent, heavily traveled road. I'd offer that based on rental fees, I would recommend better towels and seating for more than two outside to enjoy the view. We had to pull a dining chair and office chair for the four of us to sit out on the deck with a glass of wine. The area is great to explore..enjoyed the coastal tidal pools, bought fish from nearby harbor for dinner, and enjoyed The Press for great nearby breakfast.

One of a kind

We had a memorable stay in this beautiful home. We only had three days, but with the ocean views and the warm welcome, it felt like a true vacation. We enjoyed all the artistic touches and of course the proximity to world class hiking and sightseeing.

Beautiful Retreat by the Ocean

We would like to thank Nancy and Gary for the time we could be in their beautiful house overlooking the ocean. This view is a scenic as it gets with waves breaking over the rocks, lighthouse flashing at night and pelicans hovering over the water. The place has everything we could possibly need - from a modern kitchen to beautiful art on the walls. While appearing to be at the very end of land, it is literally minutes from civilization. We appreciate our friendly and welcoming hosts.

Absolutely lovely

I can't say enough good things about our stay here. Initial communication was superb and included excellent directions (with photos) from SFO as well as great information about the surrounding areas. We stayed in touch with Gary as we were delayed, and he met us as we pulled in. Everything about this place is well thought out with a great flair for fun decor. The highlight, of course, were the floor to ceiling glass door that faced the ocean. Everything was explained well by Gary and he talked about some great local attractions and restaurants. We used his directions to have a fun drive through the redwoods one day. We ate breakfast every morning at The Press the next town south. Beds were heavenly, steam shower was a nice addition and the place was very clean. The views alone are worth it. Thanks, Gary and Nancy!

Serenity Getaway in Montara, CA

Gary and Nancy were wonderful hosts. Gary provided a list of things to do in the area and recommended some great restaurants via email which was so helpful. It helped create our agenda for our stay. As my family and I arrived to the location, we were greeted by Nancy who was very welcoming. She even made THE CUTEST welcome sign which I took home because it was so cute. The following day, I met Gary who was just as nice over the phone as he was in-person. Their home is overlooking the beach and is in a prime location; close to the beach, restaurants, stores, and trails. Their home is spacious and fully stocked with all the necessities (i.e., towels, blankets, shampoo, condition, lotion, games for the family, kitchenware, etc.). Although they live upstairs, it is as if they are not even there. You can call them for anything and they are VERY responsive. My family and I enjoyed our stay very much! I see more trips to their lovely home in my future! GREAT STAY and would love to go back!!

Views for days!

We loved our stay in Montara with views for days! The house is well stocked and includes amenities that are very nice for a relaxing vacation. The deck is so gorgeous and the location of the house cannot be beat! Gary and Nancy are wonderful hosts! Very communicative and helpful!

Loved this home

We watched whales , dolphins and seals from the porch. We absolutely loved the house! I wasn’t a huge fan of the actual town but with Half Moon Bay right down the road, San Fran only 30 mins and Redwoods about 40 mins away... it was perfect!

Absolutely fabulous

This was our best experience yet. Gary and Nancy were gracious, thoughtful hosts who accomodated a last minute reservation. They are well prepared and responsive. Their home is an absolute gem. It was very clean, the bedding was extra nice, the kitchen was such a treat—it had everything, and the view was majestic. Even the furniture was just right—large and small tables and lovely chairs and sofas. We’d be delighted to return and to refer our friends here. This was a memorable and special retreat for our family.

Magical Montara

Gary and Nancy were FABULOUS! So kind. Their home was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 3 kiddos. They had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. I wish I would had remembered the welcome sign Nancy made for us.

Why they chose this property

This is our home. We live upstairs and welcome guests to use the first floor. This is one of the most beautiful spots on earth and it is a short drive to San Francisco or south to Palo Alto or Santa Cruz.
You can't get closer to the ocean without getting wet. The views are spectacular. We are a few minutes away from one of the largest tide pools in the nation. Hiking, beaches, redwood forests, all nearby.

What makes this property unique
