A cozy white cottage tucked away in a corner of the beautiful village of Montejaque retaining its original charm and a get away from it all feel. The views from its roof terrace are as good as it gets. The house lies at the top of the beautiful old village close to the start of the national park, so very easy access for long scenic walks. An ideal place for a peaceful break - walking, birdwatching, sightseeing and relaxing. The cottage has one bedroom with a double and single bed and adjacent bathroom, a sitting/dining room on the ground floor with a wood burner for the chilly winter evenings with an adjacent kitchen. A spacious roof terrace is accessed from main stairs, it is behind and above the house. The bars, shops and restaurants are a few hundred meters away, and the communal pool a little further.

Cute cottage in a quaint village
Cottage has essentials for an extended stay. We arrived to experience a lively annual festival. The village square is a great place to meet visitors and locals.
Be prepared to carry your luggage up some steep paths!
So glad you enjoyed the village
I am sorry you felt that the cottage needed some service. We in fact put in a new kitchen and updated the bathroom very recently. I was not aware that some items were broken and will ensure this is resolved. I hope this did not spoil your stay am glad you liked the village
Lovely cottage in beautiful mountain village
We stayed for a week in September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is lovely in a traditional way with lots of rustic charm, and the views from the roof terrace are amazing. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable, ideal for a couple, with everything we needed for basic cooking - we thought it was really excellent value for money.
The owner was very friendly in all communications and helpful in providing us with lots of local information on tourist attractions, walks, restaurants, etc.
The village itself is lovely with several shops and a beautiful village square with a variety of places to eat and drink.
We did not have a car but found it fairly easy to get around - we took the 9am bus to Ronda a couple of times and got the bus or train back. The area is fantastic for walking - we walked for miles and were able to get back from both Ronda and Jimera de Libar by taking the train to the neighbouring village of Benaojan and walking from there - about 3km but be warned very steep! Montejaque itself and the surrounding area are very hilly so if you love walking its fine but if steep hills are a problem then a car would definitely be necessary.
A note about the village swimming pool - apparently it is only open during school holidays so was closed when we were there - I think it closed sometime around the 2nd week of September, not sure when exactly in the year it re-opens.
Overall the area is amazing with lots to do - we combined our trip with visits to Gibraltar, Cordoba and Granada - all by public transport which is cheap and easy to use. Montejaque is a great place for a relaxing getaway and the cottage is charming and great value for money.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and very envious how energetic you were. But you can also be just as lazy as you like in Montejaque! Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
Fantastic break. Perfect location. Lovely village, friendly atmosphere. Would definately stay again, although a fan would have been helpfull.
Budget cottage in a charming location
We were looking for budget accommodation as a base for our travels around Andalucia and this little cottage turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The cottage was well-equipped for our daily needs. Although we were there during the hottest time of year, the cottage's location in the upper part of the village meant that we got a cool breeze during the night. The living area's location on the ground floor with its back wall underground, ensured that the inside temperature is significantly lower than outside during the hottest part of the day. There is also a charming little terrace on top of the house and it was wonderful to sit there when it got cooler in the evenings and listen to sounds and chatter drifting upwards from the village.
Montejaque itself is absolutely charming! The locals, along with the inhabitants of neighboring Benaojan, organize processions and festivals throughout the spring and summer primarily for themselves. But they do not mind at all when tourists drop in to partake of the jubilance. We mostly shopped and dined in the village itself, but occasionally treated ourselves to something fancier in Ronda, 15 minutes by car.
There is no end to what can be done in the region. There are numerous, well-marked trails through the Grazalema natural park as well as many white villages scattered throughout the mountains (Gaucin, Zahara, Algodonales). There are also several locations worth visiting within a 1.5-2 hour drive, such as Gibraltar, Malaga, Seville, and Costa del Sol. Cordoba or Granada are only a leisurely 3-hour drive away. We plan on going back to the same place when the weather is cooler to take more advantage of the outdoor life.
Une maison agréable et bien située pour visiter les villages blancs.
Nous y étions début aout et le village est très actif. Des activités, concerts et autres spectacles tous les soirs.
I am so glad you had an enjoyable stay Linda
Montejaque is one of the beautiful white villages of Andalucia. It is located 15 km from Ronda and lies in the Grazalema Natural Park. The village has a long history reaching back to the time of the conquest by the Moors. It is built on a rocky hillside above a valley of sunflower fields, olive groves and vineyards.
In this traditional Spanish village you will, like us, soon feel part of rural Andalucian life where it is so easy to relax and enjoy a peaceful time away from the pressures of modern life. As you walk to your house you follow steep, winding streets which thread their way between whitewashed cottages, whilst a few steps further on the edge of the village, sheep and goat bells can be heard as the animals meander about the surrounding hillside.
Moreover the 21st century has bought some changes so albeit you can not beat the traditional tapas there are several delightful restaurants, bars, shops even a fishmongers with incredibly cheap fresh fish.
