About Paula Morris/Deborah Hyman
We purchased what was then called ‘Llangollen' in 1991. We have been fortunate to have a lovely cabin to which we continue to escape where the air is fresh, rush hour is only created as we hurry back from the pond so not to miss out on our nightly ritual of sitting on the expansive deck while sipping wine as we gaze out toward the mountain to watch the sunset. We want to share this alluring peaceful get away with people who appreciate mother nature and crystal clear starry or moonlit skies. You'll have both the rural mountain feel and all of the conveniences of home. Perfect for a romantic getaway or for kids who will love to romp in our back yard. Over the past 25 plus years, our cabin has been modernized with new floors, windows and doors, new electric oven, frost free refrigerator, window A/C units, efficient ceiling fans all topped off with the mountain facing deck.

Why Paula Morris/Deborah Hyman chose Lost River
Almost heaven Red Bud Haven is located in the pollution free mountains of West Virginia. Only two hours drive from Washington D.C., (3 hours Baltimore, 3 1/2 hours Richmond, 5 hours Philadelphia) this newly renovated cabin is tucked away in the woods and offers you the pristine beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains. Nearby is the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, there is a wide range of recreational activities: swimming, horseback riding, hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, archery, as well as fine dining or simple, country eating. During the winter months, skiing is convenient. There is a local museum that has World War II artifacts. You can even take a yoga class at the local yoga center. Lots to choose from or just relax and enjoy the beautiful unobstructed mountain view seen through the large a-frame window. Washington magazine writes, “Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams and outdoor fun - hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.' You'll have your choice of the Lost River State Park, where the Hidden Trails Stables is located for horseback riding, archery, outdoor pool, tennis and a restaurant. Also nearby is the Trout Pond Recreation Area at the George Washington National Forest, with fishing, a gentle lake with a beach for swimming, lovely light walking or more serious hiking.

Cute little cabin in peaceful forest
We had a lovely time. It is a beautiful little cabin. Everything was in excellent order. Did not hear a peep from anyone bar the birds. Back deck in the late afternoon is wonderfully relaxing.
Quietude is paramount.
Glad you enjoyed your time at our cabin.
Great spot to get away for a long weekend
We really enjoyed our weekend here. The house was nestled away and private, but close enough to activities as well. We went hiking and fishing and swimming at Trout Pond Lake nearby. The house had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was fully stocked. It was just what we needed!
Great place to stay!
We loved our stay at Red Bud Haven. Beautiful cabin with great view. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The quiet atmosphere was wonderful. Perfect for a romantic getaway. Maybe a little small for a family with two teeanagers like us - but we still had a great time!
We (and our fur baby) stayed here for our anniversary. We're from just outside of DC, and more than anything we wanted to be off the grid and close to nature. This cabin was a great success! There was no cell phone reception at the cabin, but we did have wifi so we could be reached in case of emergency. It was honestly refreshing to have silent phones all weekend and really gave us a chance to fully enjoy the beautiful surroundings and each other's company. There are lots of games and a tv with netflix if you get bored, but with countless trails within just a few minutes, you may not even need them. The screened in porch was fantastic for meals and relaxing, great for enjoying a bug-free evening checking out the forest around you. There were other cabins nearby, but we couldn't see or hear them. The kitchen does come equipped with a wine opener (yay!), but doesn't have much in the way of salt, pepper, or other spices so you may want to bring your own to play it safe. There are plenty of cooking utensils though, and there's a super deluxe dollar store down the road that has nearly everything you need if you find anything missing.
You are in George Washington National Forest, so you have quick access to everything that entails. The first day we hiked Tibbet's Knob, recommended to us by some hikers in the parking lot. It was an intense hike straight up the mountain and was a bit much with the heat wave and humidity. The second day we did a loop around Trout Pond. Since we had our dog, we weren't able to swim... The water looked nice though and there were many families splashing around. Instead, we explored the loop of trails around the pond. The trail was pretty flat and easy, so we improvised and created our own roughly 5 mile loop. There is a scenic trail near the camp sites which is roughly a mile straight up. Totally worth the hike!
Overall, our weekend here was peaceful, relaxing, and exactly what we were looking for.
This cabin has a wonderful location close to Lost River State Park and other areas of interest. The owners were very responsive and helpful. Very clean and well stocked cabin. We enjoyed our stay.
Conveniently location within a 20 min. drive to one state and one National park. Both offer swimming, hiking and biking trails. Lost River State Park has fee based horse back riding trails, picnic shelters and swimming pool facilities. Trout Pond is nestled within the George Washington National Forest. Beautiful stream fed pond with clean beach sand and gorgeous views. State annually stocks trout for recreational fishing. Permits are required.
