The 'Swanky Westside Studio' is in the heart of Santa Cruz! This listing is for a large spacious bedroom and artspace at the back of our home with it's own private entrance through the backyard. A unique accomodation for those who resist the status quo, it is my printmaking studio!
Walk to the beach, the boardwalk, or downtown, and come home to a safe and quiet street, tucked away in one of those most desirable neighborhoods in town!
Vacation in style - This spacious and breezy loft like space has a designer bathroom with custom concrete shower, mini bar, movie collection, free WIFI and a very large plasma TV. Ceiling fan for summer afternoons and a gas furnace for misty Santa Cruz evenings. It's the perfect choice for couples looking for a romantic spot for 2, artists and writers looking for a quiet and contemplative space, or visiting researchers and professors (we are 2 blocks from the main busline to UCSC)
Live like a local! The studio sits behind the home of an established local artist (me!) Get the inside scoop on the local art and music scene, First Friday Gallery Walk, great venues for live music and dancing, (and sometimes if I am home!) a private tour of my art studio and house art collection by my favorite Santa Cruz artists.
Large garden and backyard patio bonus! Have a glass of wine at the garden banquet table, or grill some local organic dinner on the brick bbq pit. Who knows what kind of adventure, relaxation and inspiration awaits you in Santa Cruz?
I am a mixed media artist here in Santa Cruz. I saved up and bought this property with proceeds from my paintings! I fixed it up and added special designer touches wherever I could. This studio apartment is everyone's favorite part :)
Michelle purchased this studio in 2006
I fell in love with Santa Cruz the first time I visited! My family drove up from LA to see the monarch butterflies migration to Natural Bridges State Park (just minutes away)
I love this property because its so close to the beach, but still JUST outside the fogline. When its cool or windy right at the beach its still sunny in our backyard! It's an oversized lot that was an orchard in the 20's. The neighborhood is safe and friendly, and the neighbors wave hello :) It's a family neighborhood that is very quiet at night - even while being a short walk to downtown. Everyone always says its the perfect location!
The "Swanky Studio" sits in the back of the home I share with 3 young professionals. Whether in town at check in, or over the phone when I am out of town, I am willing and ready to point you towards the best art venues, bookshops, music venues, restaurants and wineries in town! Having lived in Santa Cruz for 20 years, I'm especially 'au current' with special events, openings or farmers markets that might be happening during your stay and I will let you know ;)
James & I had the most wonderful stay with Michelle, truly a relaxing getaway that we dreamed it would be. Her location was excellent James wanted to surf & shop for wet suits & I wanted beach time ..we were completely satisfied. Her studio was for us indulgent & she took the time to detail a beautiful artsy atmosphere, many amenities & kitchen supplies all there. The patio & back yard was super cute, we did NOT want to leave & we loved Michelle what a sweet person, loves to chat & directed us to the market or wherever really & she gave us a street parking pass for our rental- very thorough with every need...Bravo!
We had a wonderful time in Santa Cruz for our son's wedding and our 26 wedding anniversary. Michelle was fantastic. We would definitely contact her again to stay with her.
Our favorite place to stay in Santa Cruz! The "Swanky Studio" is one of those rentals you don't want to leave - it's clean, comfortable and beautifully designed. Michelle is a talented artist and the most dedicated vacation rental host we know - her thoughtful touches are everywhere. Salvage butcher block counters and vintage boardgames - AWESOME! She even leaves a little home baked chocolate or pastry under an antique glass bell jar for a breakfast treat! This was our anniversary trip and the weather couldn't have been nicer. My husband and I walked downtown and had a scrumptious dinner at Assembly with family. (get the cheese plate!) In the morning we walked over to the beach at Steamer's Lane and watched the surfers and the gulls. All in all, a perfect time in a beautiful space. We'll be back!!
I had the pleasure of staying at Michelle's amazing studio for the last 4 nights, and let me tell you, I didn't want to leave! Every detail is artistic and classy-- the home is vibrantly decorated with art by Michelle, other local artists and fun odds and ends. The studio was clean, bright, was a perfect temperature and a very big size. She even has a video and DVD collection, along with a huge TV for her guests to enjoy. She had cookies waiting for us and even brought me some watermelon juice she made! I spent a great deal of time sitting outside in the back yard, it was very relaxing and the weather was perfect this time of year. When relaxing outside, I was kindly engaged with by guests staying at her other rental location, by her roommates and by Michelle. Such lovely lovely people!
As someone who lived in Santa Cruz for a long time, this location is perfect- easy walking and bus access to downtown and great spots just moments away on Mission street. If you stay there, be sure to check out Cafe Brasil, Risoranti Avanti and The Food Bin, Santa Cruz staples!
In conclusion, you get so much value by staying here-- you get a huge space, with wonderful locals nearby, in a great location. Don't pass up this magical and classy spot!
This studio was the perfect place for us to stay while visiting our daughter at UCSC, and is so thoughtfully designed and furnished. Very comfortable and fully equipped and all with such style! We echo the prior reviewers in praising Michelle for her creativity, charm and graciousness, and we are so glad we met her and had the opportunity to stay in her swanky studio! (Husband especially liked the separate, private entrance to the property.) Would definitely recommend to other couples or singles.
Thanks for making this space available on your property. Everything was just as described. We had a great time. Walked to the beach, easy access to downtown, and found fun restaurants and shops within the neighborhood.
We look forward to coming back!
This place coudln't have been any more perfect unless we could have stayed indefinitely. From the get-go Michelle was a gracious host and on the day of arrival, I fell completely in love with the Swanky Studio and Michelle's creative spirit. The pictures online are detailed, but the warmth, comfort, and style of this place in person just amazes you. I planned this surprise anniversary trip for my husband and Michelle's studio was the perfect place for our getaway. She assisted in the subterfuge and her recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed every minute of our romantic and relaxing time there. You must try Will's home-made cookies and take a bath under the willow tree, the mac-n-cheese at The Picnic Basket, the artichoke heart tacos at La Cabana, walk the tide pools at Natural Bridges, watch the hummingbirds at the Arboretum, and of course..watch The Lost Boys while cuddling on the comfy couch! Thank you Michelle! I had expectations, but you and your Swanky Studio raised the bar. You haven't seen the last of us!
We are a 10 minute walk to Westcliff Drive beaches!
Walk or bike to Natural bridges, Downtown, The Boardwalk, Cowell's Famous Surf Spot, Steamer Lane, The Wharf, and UCSC main bus line!!
