Great location, no frills furnishings, good kitchen

  • 3 of 5

Half block to Thames St. Difficult to get into driveway because of narrow street, but after a few times you get the hang of it, nice to have the car off the street. All necessities there, nice beach chairs and umbrella. Bring your own beach towels though. Nice to have washer and dryer. Furniture could be better, the beds and couch are pretty hard. Main bedroom is huge and easily fit a pack and play for our daughter. Definitely decorated by a dude, could use a little more beach house charm according to my wife. Neighbors were reasonably quiet, especially considering it was 4th of July week. Overall a nice stay.

Happy GREAT Bday Wknd

  • 4 of 5

Adorable digs in Newport RI. Had such a blast. Quaint street right in the heart of town and in walking distance to everything. The only drive necessary was to the beach (Easton/1st). All the amenities you could ask for even see beach supplies. My only minor complaint was not enough bath towels. Overall, it was clean and perfect for our stay for 3 nights and 4 days. Will def visit again. :)

Wonderful time in Newport

  • 5 of 5

Johns place was awesome! It was exactly like the pictures. We are empty nesters and for this trip had our grown children with us for my nieces wedding. Plenty of room to get ready. My sister and her family had the upper unit and we were able to utilize the front hallway by unlocking our door and we all could visit and plan our events. We walked Thames street many many times for shopping and eating. No shortage of places to eat and shop. Johns VRBO was fully stocked with everything you would need. Just bring your food and drinks. Parking in the back is a huge advantage, as the parking in Newport is a nightmare! Quiet, clean, and comfy! Thanks John for a memorable stay.

Fabulous location!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned for our stay in Newport and had a great trip! This unit is the perfect location to access the marina, shopping, restaurants, or touring the mansions on Bellevue, all in walking distance! The unit includes an updated washer and dryer and has a heater for when you step out of the shower. The off street parking is a huge plus. Everyone in our party was very comfortable throughout the stay!

GREAT APARTMENT

  • 5 of 5

I STAYED AT THE PROPERTY WITH A FRIEND FOR 4 DAYS THIS PAST WEEK. THIS WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE IN NEWPORT. THE WEATHER WAS GREAT, AND THERE WERE VERY FEW TOURSTS.

THE APARTMENT WAS VERY CLEAN AND WELL STOCKED WITH APPLIANCES AND DISHWARE.

THE LOCATION IS INCREDIBLE; CLOSE TO THE MANSIONS AND RESTAURANT ROW.

MANSION TIP: SAVE MARBLE HOUSE AND THE BREAKERS FOR YOUR LAST TOURS. OTHERWISE, YOU MAY BE LET DOWN BY THE SMALLER HOUSES. I THOUGHT THEY WERE ALL WONDERFUL, BUT I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE MIGHT BE DISAPPOINTED. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING IN ONE OF THE MANSION GIFTSHOPS, IT MIGHT BE IN THE LARGE ONE AT THE BREAKERS, BUT NO GUARANTEE. GET IT WHEN YOU SEE IT.

THE BEDS ARE COMFORTABLE. THERE ARE AIR CONDITIONERS AND CEILING FANS IN ALL OF THE ROOMS.

THE BATHROOM HAS LOTS OF HOT WATER AND A NICE SHOWER.

THE TELEVISION CHANNELS ARE LIMITED, BUT WE WEREN'T REALLY THERE TO CATCH UP ON TV. THERE WAS FREE WI-FI, WE INSTEAD OPTED TO RETIRE TO OUR INDIVIDUAL ROOMS, WATCHING NETFLIX.

THE PARKING AREA IS VERY WIDE, BUT I WOULD SUGGEST A SEDAN OR SMALL SUV. THE ROADS ARE NARROW AND A BIT OF A CHALLENGE TO GET IN AND OUT. THE CAR RENTAL PLACE GAVE US A MINI-VAN. WE MADE IT WORK, BUT IT TOOK A FEW TRIES TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE PARKING AREA. THERE IS FREE PARKING AT THE MANSIONS, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO PARK IN TOWN. LEAVE THE CAR AT THE APARTMENT WHEN YOU GO OUT TO EAT.

WE ATE BREAKFAST REALLY CHEAPLY AT GARY'S HANDY LUNCH. IT IS A GREAT DINER (5 AM-3 PM). THERE IS AN ORGANIC MARKET, A STOP AND SHOP AND A LIQUOR STORE ON THE SAME STREET AS THE MANSIONS.

WE ALSO TOOK A DAY TRIP ON THE FAST FERRY TO MARTHAS VINEYARD AND THE 2.5 HOUR TOUR AROUND THE ISLAND. IT IS A GREAT DAY TRIP FROM NEWPORT, BUT DOES REQUIRE A CAR TO GET TO.

I WILL DEFINITELY STAY THERE NEXT TIME I GO TO NEWPORT. JOHN WAS VERY RESPONSIVE.

Map

Enjoy walks to Newport Harbor and it’s wharves, parks, shops, world-class restaurants, museums, The International Yacht Restoration School and a close-up view of international racing and pleasure yachts. The waterfront abounds with multi-million dollar contemporary yachts and exquisitely restored wooden craft.

Also, enjoy colonial Newport, with hundreds of finely maintained seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth century historic homes and other points of historical interest. Cobblestones, slate-paved sidewalks and America’s very first gas street lamps recall Newport’s glorious history as the third largest port and sixth largest city in the colonial era. Historic churches include America’s oldest Jewish synagogue and the 1726 Trinity Church. Washington, Lafayette and Rochambeau walked these streets during the Revolutionary War.

Newport’s famed Gilded Age “summer cottages” are on display beginning just two or three blocks in another direction from your location. About a dozen of these magnificent mansions are open to the public and await your awe and admiration. The world famous Breakers, The International Tennis Hall of Fame and the American Museum of Illustration are highlights of well-known Bellevue Avenue.

Finally, not-to-be-missed Cliff Walk overlooking Easton’s Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Bellevue Avenue leads to picturesque Ocean Drive, seven miles of oceanfront glory.

Bicycling, on foot, or by car you’ll encounter the national kite flying center at Brenton State Park and family friendly Gooseberry Beach. Gooseberry includes a calm water lagoon, friendly to the kids, and a great little café. Adults will love cocktails and dinner on the lawn of Inn at Castle Hill, called one of America’s most romantic inns by Conde Nast Traveler. Fort Adams State Park, at the end of Ocean Drive features a restored nineteenth century stone fort and a view back across the harbor to downtown Newport.

Entertainment opportunities are just as close and abundant. The world famous Newport Jazz, Folk and Classical Festivals are complemented by an independent film theater and film festival, live theatre, clubs and the finest dining imaginable. The Gibson Sunset Music Festival features top name musical acts, and ethnic festivals abound throughout the summer.
